UK: 79% Of Street Fighter 6 physical sales sales were on PS5

It comfortably holds off competition from Street Fight 6, which debuts at No.2 in the UK charts. It's not a strong physical showing for the Capcom game, certainly when compared to the popularity of its Resident Evil games at boxed retail. However, the vast majority of its sales will come via digital channels, and so its boxed performance won't tell us a great deal on how the game has truly done.

79% of its boxed sales were on PS5, 13% on Xbox and 8% on PS4. When digital comes in, expect Xbox's share to be a little better.

So 87% overall?

If you're a long time FGC gamer these numbers are astounding.

I don't understand why this should be expected. I am more likely to expect the digital share to be similar.

Anyway, Sony has been defacto fighting game console for 10 years now, they own Evo, if you're a big fighting fan I don't know why you would be playing them on Xbox honestly. No surprise, plus well Sony is selling 3x-5x the # of consoles as Xbox.

Nice FUD topic title you got there, OP.

Raw data is always FUD when you, personally, don't like the numbers.

Me: GFK reports 79% 87% total. Digital sales not yet available.

Granted it's just a sole lone anecdotal, but there isn't one person on my Xbox friendlist playing SF6. And based on that same friendlist, I suspect we will similar results with Diablo 4. Meanwhile on my PS5 everyone is playing these two games right now.

Not mentioning its physical releases only does seem like a big omission

We've been reporting GFK/UK sales for years now. We know, as a matter of fact, that GFK compiles digital sales later... Because they get the digital sales from publishers at a later date.

Stop acting surprised and complaining because you don't like the numbers that are being reported.

SF6 isn't enought to beat Tears of Kingdom I'm afraid. Still kinda impressive though.
Lets see how long its legs gonna holds. Gonna risk a guess that both Hogwarts Legacy and Tears gonna keep holding for a good time, while SF6 will lose power.

Seems to me just more evidence of the GamePass effect.

And yes, I can state that with confidence because of how boxed Retail sales is the category most likely to be affected due to Series S being digital only.

A fact that I think gets somewhat overlooked is that if you're a buyer who likes physical games Xbox does not offer a low-cost solution in its current line-up. Effectively meaning that the aftermarket for Xbox product is restricted to the subset of Series X owners further disincenitivizing physical purchases.

Love this weekly threads where we get o pretend week in week out that Xbox has like a 150% to -10% digital to physical ratio and PlayStation is almost all physical. #faxs

GP totally doesn’t affect software sales guys.

Rinse and repeat. But you're right. It's weird to me that people don't see this as an issue going forward. Like when it comes to the 2nd hand market, PS5 games will basically be the only option for most people. Especially after looking at these numbers.

Not to mention, SF5 was PS exclusive.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Aftermarket / used sales aren't counted in these charts gents .... hope you guys know that.

Historically when these threads are made --- people use the actual article titles from GI.Biz --- not their own bait-ey versions --- the reporting from the article isn't the issue.

Is there a reason to assume that the digital percentages are gonna be drastically different from the physical ones?

Also, I‘m a bit surprised that PS4 is lower than XBox, especially considering that SF6 doesn’t even have a XBox One version.

It's also THE eSports platform for fighting games with Evo and even Battle Royale games on console with PlayStation Tournaments.

Xbox are historically digital gamers. They don't do that well on disc sales.

As for the percentage, this game would have more PS users, because SF5 was PS exclusive.

We know that!!!! I'm personally bringing that up as a bigger\longer term issue that MS may have on their hands in general. They are basically forgoing the whole aftermarket sales of these games and exchanging it for GamePass. It's their choice to make, but it's interesting none the less.

Xbox digital share will be higher than physical.

But in the case of RE4 remake if we look at only the ps5 and xsx/xss marketshare, xbox sales are lagging behind the ps5, ps5 had better overall ratio for RE4. Digital didn't help change the sales split.

What were the digital sales % for PS5/XBS for for Hogwarts Legacy and Jedi Survivor?

RE4 answered above I see.

You yourself didn't demand a Physical clarification from your own sales thread, posted just last month?

Keep the same energy.

After market hurts the devs, not MS.
The devs are losing their money from these markets, while MS is paying them to get their games (unless I am missing your point).

Of course it isn't, but that's not to say that it doesn't factor into people's purchasing decisions.

The aftermarket in the UK is a pretty big deal. I suspect for example there are as many -more even- CEX outlets on high streets across the country than there are of big-name specialist retailers like Game. So when people go in these stores and see 3x as much space given over to PS5 product than Xbox Series, that sends a message that one of these is way more popular than the other.

Especially coming off the back of a generation where PS4 handily outsold Xbox One, it looks bad.

As to GamePass, it offers an alternate way to play DIGITAL product, so MS is already stacking the deck hard in its favour as to where the best deal is to get DIGITAL games. So that in turn disincentivizes buying games even for Series X owners - the only ones with the option to buy physically!
