I wonder if anyone could help me here.

My friend is living alone, she only needs the internet for streaming netflix and browsing the internet. Nothing else.

Before I start sifting though the dozens of providers, does anyone here know of any good deals or providers to suit her situation?

She lives in North London.

Thanks very much!

Does she have/want any other Pay TV?

Will she every use the phone line to call people?

No, as stated: Netflix and browsing only.

The smallest Virgin pack is 50mb for just under £30 a month. Just curious if there was anything for less money as she doesn't need 50mb.

The virgin deal includes the superhub and installation though...

BT.

Yes they get a lot of crap thrown at them but overall they are quality.

No. I would disagree with that. I will never, ever, ever have anything to do with BT ever again. They are terrible:

A few years back, I moved house. I phoned up BT and said "hey, can you move the broadband service to my new address?" "sure!", they said. They took down my new address, and sent me an email confirming it. Awesome.

The day the technician was supposed to turn up, I booked off work. I waited, and waited. I eventually got a phone call stating that the technician had gone to my address and gave up as no one was in. Bullshit. I enquired further - they sent him to my old address. Idiots. We rescheduled it for the week after. Three weeks had passed now with no internet. THEY SENT HIM TO THE WRONG ADDRESS, YET AGAIN! Now I was getting pissed off. I set up one last date for it to be connected, and made sure they would send him to my new address. Guess what? It happened again. Absolute fucking idiots.

So, I phoned them up and told them to screw themselves. I was going with Virgin - who were fantastic, and got it sorted immediately. I then happened to get a demand of payment through the post from BT for £240 for the engineer callouts - despite the fact that they sent him to the wrong address each fucking time.

So I threatened them with court action. It didn't get that far - we settled, and I got a refund of the final month's bill. However, the only reason that happened is because every single bit of correspondence they sent to me had my name spelt completely wrong - and as such, any legal action would have been pointless as that person does not exist!!

I wouldn't recommend BT to anyone else as long as I live. Bunch of incompetent assholes with quite simply the worst adverts on TV.

I'm sure there are horror stories about all providers.

What I really wanted to know is if anyone was aware or any cheaper deals than £30 plus free installation and hub.

Tbh, it looks like Virgin are the best bet atm even if that 50mb is a bit overkill for her needs.

Plusnet fibre has 38/19 unlimited at first 6months free + 15.95 line rental. Later 14.99 + £15.95 line rental.

Their ADSL is quite a bit cheaper, 12 months at 1.50 + 15.95 line rental. £9.99 + £15.95 after. ADSL is a bit hit and miss though, if she live far shits gonna be slow.

Plusnet are fairly cheap. You have to take line rental but their monthly packages are good value.

Edit: Beaten. :(

Regardless on who you go with make sure you either get a cashback deal, or like I did with BT, get vouchers. I think they are currently giving £150's worth at the moment.

I'm slightly biased towards BT since I work for them and get my Fibre & LL for £18. :F

How does requesting cash back deals work (bit ignorant here)? What are they exactly?

Thanks for the advice everyone.
