Btw, I've almost posted more in one year here than in six years at TXB, so that should tell you something.

Edit: I still feel like it's way better now than it was last year. Last year you had the Wii outselling everything when everyone thought it would tank. You also had the PS3 failing when everyone thought it would demolish the other two. You had the "lolz, $599 with no games" and "lolz, Wii = mini-games" in every other post. You had people getting banned in almost every thread.

I feel like the Gaming side is quite a bit better these days.

Of course the 360 wasn't doing that great after Christmas, it makes perfect sense.

1. They were shorter in supply.
2. It was after Christmas, and hence a lot of people would have had one.
3. A lot of people were waiting for a price drop.

The UK is definitely 360/Wii land, and that's what I've noticed over the past year. No one outside of the "hardcore" crowd care for the PS3, I care of course, but that's because I'm a gamer.

That theory is not backed by either hard- or software sales though.

The shortages were world wide.

Btw, no shortages in Germany, but I guess you just know better :lol .

As unfortunate as it is you also have to factor in the fact that the 360 IS a microsoft company..... and most of Europe isn't exactly to fond of the U.S. Meanwhile the Playstation brand has a better track record as well.

Oh, I agree. It was a non-response. I'm laughing not at you - from the outside looking in, GAF is horrifying - but at the total randomness of it. WTF. And also, that thread is hilarious in retrospect. It even got a thread in the archives over here.

I think I stumbled upon GAF at its absolute lowest point. It was in late 06-early 07. I saw a bunch of Sony fanboys who couldn't believe that the PS3 wasn't taking off. I saw a lot of Microsoft and Nintendo fanboys who were absolutely delighted by this. Every thread I saw just had constant bickering and trolling, and there were bannings being handed down left and right. There were entire threads where it seemed like everyone in the thread was a chick on her period. I thought the entire forum was like this.

Then I started looking at the threads that didn't have to do with system wars, and I realized that GAF had an amazing community. It really is one of the best communities on the internet. System wars just really suck.

It's worse than I ever remember at the moment. Never before have I see almost every thread degenerate in to console warz, with such a rediculous amount of mud-slinging. It seemed to start getting worse at the end of December for some reason, and still hasn't returned to any kind of normality.

EDIT: Although it was every bit as bad early last year when 360 and Wii were "surprisingly" winning over PS3. It seems that every time there is some kind of sales shift in the NPDs, or "streams cross", all the fanboys go wild.

They were never called Freedom Fries by the general public. Pretty much everyone thought it was completely ridiculous upon hearing it for the first time.

QFT i can't stand gaming discussion at the mo with the exception of the GTA:IV thread which Bishop makes sure has no console wars crap by way of mass bannings.

Maybe we could have an "Official Console Wars" thread/board where all this stuff can be kept, sales increases, decreases, game port differences etc, leaving all the other threads completely clean (by way of force).

I was thinking that like the hip hop forums have 'Beef Zones'. But really why should we even have to do that? People take this hobby way too seriously, you'd think that their lives depended on these game systems doing well.
