U.N. concealing missiles behind innocent civilians confirmed.

So tragic.. All this. All sides.

"Israel has the right to defend itself"
"We will start a full blown investigation"
"Our reports show the soldier in command is going trough a rough mental state and we deem him depressed. He'll be relieved of all his army duties"

And on and on and on and on..

There was probably a dude from Hamas using the entire building as the biggest most implausible human shield. Right?

I wonder if there will be a breaking point where other countries stop supporting Israel and say, "You're on your own now."

Israeli officials have said schools are among the places where militants store and launch rockets. Twice during this conflict rockets have been discovered at U.N.W.R.A. shelters at schools. Some Israelis have complained that agency personnel turned the rockets over to the security services affiliated with Hamas. Mr. Turner acknowledged that they had given the rockets to the Hamas-controlled interior ministry, but said there had been no one else to call.

Not that the IDF should be shelling them.

Retaliation for the UN war crimes investigation? Or just classic Israeli belligerence? In any case, the UN and international community need to step in and step up. I have a feeling that if it were't for the US vetoes, the UN would have done so already long ago.

It's up to American's now to put the pressure on their politicians, media etc to try and change the landscape of it's governments unashamed and unflinching support for Israel.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israeli tank shells hit a compound housing a U.N. school in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, killing at least 15 people and wounding dozens who were seeking shelter from fierce clashes on the streets outside, Palestinian officials said, as Israel pressed forward with its 17-day war against the territory's Hamas rulers.

Pools of blood stained the school courtyard in the northern town of Beit Hanoun, amid scattered books and belongings. There was a large scorch mark in the courtyard marking the place where one of the tank shells hit. Dozens of people, including children were wheeled into a nearby hospital as sirens wailed.

The strike occurred during a day of heavy fighting throughout the coastal territory. Israel says the war is meant to halt rocket fire from Palestinian militants in Gaza and destroy a sophisticated network of cross-border tunnels. International efforts to bring about a truce appeared elusive, with the violence continuing and Hamas reiterating its demand for a cease-fire that a crippling Egyptian and Israeli blockade on Gaza be lifted.

Gaza health official Ashraf al-Kidra said the dead and injured in the school compound were among hundreds of people seeking shelter from heavy fighting in the area.

Tank shells, you need a Tank to shoot Tank shells correct? Does Hamas even have Tanks?

If they are putting their rockets in the schools, that makes them legit targets from a military point of view.

There are civilians sheltering in these schools. The UN can evacuate these civilians if the IDF would coordinate with the UN before hand. There is literally ZERO reason anyone should have died in this specific case (and many others I imagine). No excuses for the IDF this time.

This is obviously retaliation.

The Hamas was using the UN as shelter against Israel attacks. Clearly. Or the UN is also terrorists like the kids on the beach...

In an interview with Al Jazeera Chris Gunness, the spokesman for UNRWA, the UN's humanitarian organisation in Gaza, said his organisation had been in contact with Israeli forces as fighting closed in on the shelter.

"We gave the Israelis the precise GPS co-ordinates of the Beit Hanoun shelter. We were trying to co-ordinate a window [for evacuation] and that was never granted.

A witness who arrived at the Kamal Adwan hospital after the attack told Al Jazeera: "We were sitting in the school, because we were told it is safe.

"By God, there was not a single fighter, not a single shot was fired from the school. Why did they shoot at the school? Why? Can someone explain that to me? Why would they shell the school?"

And the worst thing is nothing will change. UN will shake it's head and condemn the events and then sit right back down and continue to let this happen.

No it doesn't. The UN specifically told Hamas not to put rockets in schools after the last two incidents and notified Israel of the schools being used by displaced people. The chances of rockets being in that particular school are zero. Assuming it was an Israeli shell and not a Hamas rocket, Israel screwed up.

Using your logic, all of the 69 schools that host hundred of thousand displaced people are legit military targets. Lets just forget that of those 69 schools only 2 vacant schools had those rockets. in this case, the IDF even knew the gps co ordinates of this shelter and worst of all they didnt let them evacuate.

But I don't know if there were any rockets in that shealter, so it is a fuck up by the IDF.

Actually it's only a legit and legal target if there are enemy soldiers present and attacking from within a school. That is according to international law.

What I was saying with my post, was that those TWO schools that had rockets in them was legit targets. The other schools that has no rockets? Not legit targets.

They are not legit targets as long as there are no enemy fighters in them and firing rockets from within the school.

Places of worship and historic monuments are protected, as are civilian structures like schools and other objects that are not being used to support military activities. Under the 1954 Convention on Cultural Property important places of worship, historic sites, works of art, and other cultural treasures are likewise protected from attack.

There are exceptions. A school, for example, becomes a legitimate military target if soldiers are based there.

They found rockets in a UN funded school a few days back, so anything is possible I guess...

Interested in hearing more about this,

- Israels tells palestinians to run, doesn't let civilians leave Gaza, drops bombs
- Criminal A is near the vicinity of Building X with 30 civilians, Missile dropped on Criminal A with enough power to level Building X to kill 30 civilians. PR state: Criminal A was using 30 civilians as Human Shield.

A human shield is when you are carrying a rocket from one location to another in a truck and a truck is full of civilians, a Human shield is not when in a densely populated region, you cannot put your rockets anywhere but somewhere where it is hidden

There is no such thing as "international law". You will only have an international law, if there is a global body who can enforce such a law (and the UN doesn't count).

Only when we truly have a global body, which can enforce laws, then will we see these actions punished. For now nations can only claim to abide by a set of rules.
