"profession of noble intent" is predictable and therefore carries no information

There's been several reports of children missing their heads in Gaza over the last month. A factor of ordnance.
The difference between the emotions projected on their little heads leaving their little bodies vs. the tragedy of James Foley is that those children were insects who had no names, while James Foley is and was a human being. The selective forbearance of Western law signifies our enlightened culture, while ISIS sets new precedents in atavistic barbarity.

Woke up. A few seconds later the siren starts.
I have to run to the shelter in underpants with morning wood. Damn you Hamas!

BREAKING: lasting Gaza ceasefire agreed, reports

The Palestinians have reached agreement with Israel on a "permanent" ceasefire for the Gaza Strip, a senior official told AFP on Tuesday.

"The contacts that have been going on have agreed a permanent ceasefire, a [deal to] end the blockade and a guarantee that Gaza's demands and needs will be met," the official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Hamas called the ceasefire a "victory," AFP reported, although there has so far been no immediate comment from Israel with some social media reports suggesting that the truce had not yet been confirmed.

I really hope these reports turn out to be true.

Edit: BBC also reporting it.

Egypt has brokered an agreement on a long-term ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza, senior Palestinian officials have said.

Hamas negotiator Moussa Abu Marzouk said the deal to end seven weeks of fighting that has left more than 2,200 people dead would be announced shortly.

Added a little more from the BBC:
Palestinian officials said Egypt's ceasefire proposal called for an indefinite end to hostilities, the immediate opening of Gaza's crossings with Israel and Egypt, and an extension of the territory's Mediterranean fishing limit.

A month later, the officials added, Israel and the Palestinian factions would discuss the construction of a seaport in Gaza and the freeing of about 100 prisoners released in exchange for Gilad Shalit in 2011 who were recently rearrested in the occupied West Bank.

Hopefully an end to the massacre and can allow Gazans to live with dignity.

Just gonna leave this here, I guess.

Israel Announces Massive West Bank Land Grab

JERUSALEM, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Israel announced on Sunday a land appropriation in the occupied West Bank that an anti-settlement group termed the biggest in 30 years, drawing Palestinian condemnation and a U.S. rebuke.

Some 400 hectares (988 acres) in the Etzion Jewish settlement bloc near Bethlehem were declared "state land, on the instructions of the political echelon" by the military-run Civil Administration.

"We urge the government of Israel to reverse this decision," a State Department official said in Washington, calling the move "counterproductive" to efforts to achieve a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians.

Israel Radio said the step was taken in response to the kidnapping and killing of three Jewish teens by Hamas militants in the area in June.

The notice published on Sunday by the Israeli military gave no reason for the land appropriation decision.

Peace Now, which opposes Israeli settlement activities in the West Bank, territory the Palestinians seek for a state, said the appropriation was meant to turn a site where 10 families now live adjacent to a Jewish seminary into a permanent settlement.

Construction of a major settlement at the location, known as "Gevaot", has been mooted by Israel since 2000. Last year, the government invited bids for the building of 1,000 housing units at the site.

Peace Now said the land seizure was the largest announced by Israel in the West Bank since the 1980s and that anyone with ownership claims had 45 days to appeal. A local Palestinian mayor said Palestinians owned the tracts and harvested olive trees on them.

Israel proposes taking more West Bank land for Jewish settlers

Palestinians want to create a sovereign state in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and they say Israel’s settlement construction makes their dream of a contiguous, viable state less achievable.

Hanan Ashrawi, a leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization, said the move “clearly represents Israel’s deliberate intent to wipe out any Palestinian presence on the land and to willfully impose a de facto one-state solution.”

Hagit Ofran, director of Peace Now’s Settlement Watch project, speculated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu likely had approved such a large land appropriation.

“Netanyahu is weakening the moderate voices of the Palestinians and strengthening Hamas and those who say they don’t talk to the Israelis because they do not want peace,” Ofran said.

At his weekly cabinet meeting, Netanyahu did not specifically address the appropriation, but he did say, “Our hand has been extended in peace to those of our neighbors who want peace, and we have always fought vigorously, and with strength, against those who wish to destroy us, while building up our state, our cities and our communities.”

The landgrab equivalent of the "But Hamas...!" argument.

SMH at the State Department. Not ballsy enough to issue a statement with an actual State Dept name to it.

Would love the Israeli defenders to explain exactly what the Palestinians should do here.

Those who pick up weapons are met with an extremely disproportional use of force - with massive civilian deaths and destroyed infrastructure.

Those who peacefully protest are ignored and have their land, home and livelihood taken.

Some may say Israel and the US have created a no-win situation designed to destroy lives while painting the victims as the aggressors...

It's shameless. Hamas "started" conflict in Gaza=take more land in West Bank.

Blatant example of collective punishment on an ethnic/national scale.

Good video/photographic article about the lives of some of the 400,000 displaced Palastinians went up on the BBC today http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-29086193

Just because the bombing has stopped (for now), it's important to remember that a lot of people are still living with the aftermath of it with very little support/aid.
Yes, I heard the 3km buffer zone also has pushed a lot of people out of their homes as well and was surprised to see it made up close to 40 percent of Gaza.

Some really horrifying testimonials from the Russel Tribunal.

http://www.scriptonitedaily.com/201...es-today-the-testimony-will-break-your-heart/

Some quotes:
Israeli soldiers gather civilians in an open area, asks if anyone speaks Hebrew. When people step forward, they shoot them dead. Four brothers of one man were taken into garden and shot dead, one of them was mentally disabled and had little idea he was being killed.”

“One ambulance worker shot in the head and bled to death while fellow workers were told if they tried to assist him, they would be killed too. Another worker burned to death in his ambulance after a missile attack against it – his colleague was severely injured in the attack, left with life-altering burn injuries. We are talking about Gaza firefighters, police officers, ambulance workers and other emergency services workers being routinely shot at by snipers and missiles by Israeli military.

The Imam in Gaza was held for days by Israeli troops who ordered him at gunpoint to use mosque tannoy to call on community to come to the mosque. As young people gathered they were surrounded by Israeli troops, stripped naked at gunpoint and tortured/killed for sport.

Israel has succeeded in turning a functional economy in Gaza into a third world territory in just 8 years, through the blockade and four large scale military assaults

I can't create threads but would be nice if a new thread was created for the testimonies from the tribunal .

The countries sitting on their hands while this is going on make me sick. The fact that they are also using sanctions on other countries for far less is telling here. If you're a friend you can do whatever, I guess.

Take from that as you will. This was written by a Jordanian-Palestinian journalist, writer, and political activist.

Many quotes from all sorts of Palestinian people who are condemning the actions of Hamas and that they were directly responsible for a lot of these deaths.

With that kind of knowledge and Sweden recognizing the state of Palestine, the Palestinian nation, specifically those who side with Fatah, need to find a way to progress and distance themselves from Hamas and their supporters. I'd also like for Israel to stop building houses and buildings on settlements - the sincere gesture would be to build it for the displaced Palestinians.

"....Hamas - the terrorist regime which controls Gaza.."

Sorry, but that line stopped me right away to keep reading. Also the source is not precisely one i will trust.
