Oh no, you didn't win a damn phone. The horror! Quick let's get real angry about this.

Unboxtherapy Exposed: Did Not Give Me iPhone!

It doesn't matter how many stupid phones were in a video about a give away. It could have been one phone and he would have garnered the same exact views from the title alone.

Wow you are a professional dumbass.

With most big YouTubers I never believe their "omgg giveaways" but I still and will continue to watch UT because I enjoy them, depending on the technology his talking about.

Also I fully understand that it's not right doing false giveaways, it's just one of those things where I never not it you being a part of the survival tactics to get ahead on YouTube for some people. No matter how many times it gets exposed. Trust me I wish people wouldn't do them if they can't deliver, but at the same time I never see it stopping.

Why you so salty? He doesn't owe anyone those phones. I knew some shit must've gone down when he originally stopped giving out phones but now he seems to have a fairly legit system. Maybe there was a problem before? Maybe it was too expensive? Nothing is owed to you or was promised.

He makes entertaining videos and has good production. I can see how someone being disappointed by not seeing the old giveaway through, but OP talking like this guy just is constantly full of shit or robbed them of something.

You are not legally allowed to lie about publicly announced contests, especially those involving financial transactions.

http://sarafhawkins.com/blog-law-is-your-giveaway-legal/

There are state and federal guidelines that must be followed, and these transactions are regulated by the FTC, FCC, and DOJ. "But YouTube" won't get you out of legal trouble for running a fraudulent sweepstakes.

I guess it could be argued that the truck full of empty boxes was just meant for effect. After all, he never said a specific number would be given out. The other stuff he did to milk as many subs/followers out of that can't really be defended though.

Good talk.

Nope, but some people talking like he deserves to burn over this based on what other people are apparently saying or had "investigated"?

That's fair, he should have been transparent about whether there was a real issue of if he only intended to give away X amount of phones. I wouldn't consider it fraud, it's an extension of something like a click bait title or a video that leads you on forever but gives no answer to the question poised in the title.

I don't know who the fuck Tmartn is. I am not savvy on every single YouTube personality and the fuckery that each one is involved in. I saw a YouTubers name I enjoy in this thread title, read all the posts, was familiar with his specific videos and posted my reaction to the disdain some showed in their posts.

That's consumer deception and fraud. Just because it happened on the internet doesn't make it exempt from laws.

Entertaining thread.

Unlike Unbox. I've watched a few of his videos and he is just straight up annoying. Not as much as Austin Evans, but not likable enough for me to ever seek out his vids. Doesn't surprise me to know he messes with sub count shenanigans.

I like their skins, but dbrand are massive dicks.

The Unbox Therapy guy is painfully pretentious. He thinks he is doing first class comedy when talking to the guy behind the camera and putting all kinds of stupid banter to the videos, but all in all they are just unboxing videos, and the popularity has been mostly due to the iPhone bending.

He thinks he is now some kind of a media mogul and a big shot, and I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to do similar shit to the Finebros or other scammy, shady shit just because he can get away with it.

I recently subscribed to him as he had more followers than MKBHD, wanted to know what all the fuss was about. I'll watch his videos as I'm not into YouTube giveaways.

Unbox has nice production values, but I don't get the love. The content is very shallow and almost every video sounds like a commercial.

I dont understand why in this videos there is footage of some first person game playing in the background while the guy is talking.
I have seen this also on some other videos, is this some new trend?

It's not new. It's b-roll for Youtube creators that don't know what b-roll means.

They usually have a game running in the background so they can put their video in the gaming section of Youtube. I guess that's the most popular section of the site.

Shame to see he is just another scam artist, I recently started watching his videos. Not normally into unboxing channels but he has some interesting items and even though he comes across like a lot of the typical obnoxious youtubers he can be quite funny.

Making youtube videos was the dream for me a while back bit it becomes more and more clear that 9 out of 10 times the only way to be successful is to be an obnoxious, well off, prick.

Shame, I just discovered his channel recently and I enjoyed his earlier videos but I have to say his videos have been losing actual review substance and feel more like skits now. Probably unsub from him cuz his last few videos have been crap.

So people invested their hard-earned subscribe button click and view of the video? Who cares? The guy lied about iPhone giveaways but he didn't steal anyone's info.

Fake prank vids are worse cons.
I remember the good old days when there were legit good pranks on YouTube. Now a majority of them are manufactured and faked. The youtubers who complained about other youtubers doing fake pranks started to do fake pranks to keep up with other channels.

What a dumb thing to complain about. Who really cares? Did he steal your money or information? There are more pressing things to get rolled up about

The fact that he deleted the videos and hasn't mentioned any more winners, yeah bullshit. Ol' bait and switch. Doesn't matter if he said "few", he mislead tons of people.

Get out of here with this shit.

YouTube keeps recommending me videos from this guy.

I've watched a couple of them and it's so painfully bad when he pretends to be AMAZED at what he's trying.

Like that one machine that makes Coca-Cola at home - you put a capsule in a machine and Coca-Cola comes out-

Dude couldn't believe how awesome it was to be able to drink Coca Cola at home. Finally!

He just sounds fake and makes me feel uncomfortable

The classic "buh whaddabout _____" defense.

Nice.
This guy literally hurt nobody. He misled people yes, but the people who entered into that contest did not think they were going to win to begin with. Sorry I can't get angry at a guy promising me a 1% chance at an iPhone when in reality he lied because that chance was closer to .01%.

If he promised EVERYBODY iPhones but only gave them to half that's different. In that case, the level of expectations was set and he deliberately lied to people.

I just can't stand that the channel anymore. Ever since the Bendgate (which was good) its just about a random shitty gadget from Amazon that he got paid to showcase. He never mentions something negative about these shitty gadgets. Pretends to be amazed at everything. Good production value tho.

No matter how "tame" this exposure is, it's still worth it to bring it to the attention of the uninformed who are suckered into these things.

The more knowledge they have, the less likely they can fall for this and potentially worse stuff. People defending it fail to understand this and think "it's harmless". No, people like that think "if you believe that, I'll tell you another".

The issue is with trust and feeling used.
Imagine being invited to hang out at a party to have fun but the host is just clicking away on a ticker box as he counts how many guests he gets in hopes of breaking a record or gaining rep rather than providing entertainment/alcohol (if you're into that). Harmless, but wouldn't you like to know that so you don't waste your time going again?

I don't mind him at all. I really like his crazy setup videos and weird products he unboxes. The phone giveaway is back and is managed a lot better with Dbrand helping him. I'll cross my fingers for one of those phones lol.

Looks like the dude's a scammer, though it's pretty obvious just from seeing the truck of iphone boxes. Dbrand seems like the bigger fish to fry going by these vids. Sounds like he belongs in prison.

wut

joke post? watch the 3rd video

The reaction of the OP is overblown, while unbox therapy did the wrong thing by promising something they can't fulfill, they are not really required to give away the phones nor they owe anyone a phone.

Unbox therapy does really some interesting videos from time to time, and Lewis was the one who exposed apple iPhone 6 poor design that lead it to bend relatively easily.

Getting 10m views on one video and 3 million extra subscribers since the fake (and by extension illegal) giveaway is a shedload of money. I hope the FTC and the IRS take an interest in him.

But it's all good because "he hurt nobody" (lol).

Ive ever watched maybe a handfull of their videos

The last one i saw was the unspillable cup video from a few weeksa back and he was such an obvious shill that i vowed never to watch another of their videos

I started following him a few months ago on istagram and then subbing to hime on youtube. I like seeing new and cool tech but yea he is scum for that fake giveaway.

Aren't all of those phone boxes promotional boxes since they do not have the line in the middle?

This post is bonkers.
Making fake giveaways is a crime and i think so is alluding that you have so many iPhones for that giveaway when you clearly do not.
Also you are comparing this with the Apple thing which are totally different things.

I would be annoyed because i had to make plans to attend the party. In this case I am watching a few minutes of video. There's no extra effort I have to make. This affects my life less than getting cut off by some a-hole driver on the road.

In any case you can say i'm one of fools that actually believed this and subscribed to everything related to see if ever luck would kiss me... i thought, being one of the very big channels and be related other tech guys i like, that there were very low chances for a scam but maybe i was wrong.
I think i will give it a week to defend themselves but then i'll unsubscribe because damn his videos are so annoying...

How do you guys have the energy to get so angry over stuff like this?

UnboxTherapy should be held accountable for any illegal/shady stunts. I agree.

The vitriol spewed in this thread is ridiculous though. Attacking not only UnboxTherapy but also other members with personal insults over relatively harmless comments. If people are saying it's not a big deal and you think it is, explain why it's a big deal. Throwing insults at them won't convince them of anything. Guess I'll have to add "youtuber exposed" to my list of thread topics to not click on.

I've never heard of this guy before and just watched one of his videos, a "review" of a an Urban Armor Gear macbook case. It will certainly be the last.

I don't understand the defense force for this.

Yeah it didn't cost anyone but a few minutes of time and a few clicks, but dude literally made 20 thousand dollars from that. If you're going to be shady just to get more views, thus, more money, you should be called out on it.

And his buddies company made a million on the other giveaway that did cost people money and 'happened' to be given to an associates fiancee.
It's shady as hell.

I've been a subscriber of his for years now it seems, as far as the simple to the point unboxing videos.... he was easily the best on YouTube

But as he got bigger he started doing non unboxing related and started to market himself as a character, his video production is top notch but now the content is shit

More power to the guy for making money off this

There's winners listed on the dbrand site for this new round. I'll have his channel on in the background because sometimes there's neat products that I didn't know about. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
