I feel that Chapter 1 was a better intro than the first game. However, the parts after that feel a little bland until Nepal. That gorgeous city is the first true showcase of the improved graphics. I'm still in Nepal because I'm taking in the game slowly on Hard.

I think the jungle at borneo looked pretty insane. Much better and more natural looking than in the first game. Also, one of the best fights during the whole game so far happened there for me at least.

My wife and me were watching Top Chef and the Uncharted 2 commercial came up and after it was done she asks "Is that the game you have been playing?"(Side note my wife has no interest or love of games except lemmings and LBP) I tell her yeah and she asks to see it. So I start a new game from the beginning. Now never ever ever has my wife been able to sit through more than I would say 10 min of a game before saying "Wow very cool...Well I am going to go read you have fun". Last night though I played all the way to Borneo and I have never seen her so into it. I was constantly bombarded with questions such as "I dont like the black haired chick she seems like a traitor to me. Does she betray Drake!?" Anyway good news bad news cause now she doesn't want me to play unless she is at home.

That is awesome to hear. My wife my always wants to watch me play if it is a single player game. This is an awesome gift to have. :D

Nepal is astonishing, isn't it? When I first arrived there, I literally just let Nate hide behind some junk on the street for a good long while just to take it all in.

Does anyone use 'Dynamic Range' for sound?

And I think
Borneo
was very impressive. One of my favorites right now on my second playthrough.

I think it's mostly people that are saying that because of seemingly ridiculous "flaws" like "it's nothing new" when 99% of games do nothing new. Everybody's favorite games do "nothing new" and i usually feel the same way about the statement. Half-Life 2 did "nothing new" Halo did "nothing new" Gears did "nothing new" God of War did "nothing new" Mario Galaxy did "nothing new" the zelda games do "nothing new". It's just a lazy argument.

I love this game but i also see flaws in it but at a point you're nitpicking only talking about the negative instead of the total package when dealing with anything IMO. Everybody needs to chill and either flesh out their arguments positive or negative or just leave the thread because a new release will have it's emotional one-liners by posters just checking in to say they are playing.
I've been at class so I couldn't respond. When the package is this good, ANYTHING you don't like stands out like a road cone. I know that's not totally fair, but that's how it is.
Nobody needs to chill, people should be able to talk about anything they like or hate without someone else bitching about it. If someone is just trolling and making up shit, they will get banned. Otherwise, even if they are lying, why does it make some people so damned angry to see people talk about things they don't like? The enjoyment you get from the game HAS to be enough for you.

Borneo was ok but I didn't like The Dig (also in Jungle just after Borneo). I don't like prolonged fights with waves of enemies in the same area. Those were the parts of Uncharted 1 that I liked the least, and it's the same for Uncharted 2.

Beside, it's better to read negatives than just praise, so Arne / Naughty Dog can take notice and make an even better game than Among Thieves. =)

I was really fond of the Ice Caves. I remember physically feeling cold during that portion of the game. There came a point where a stream of water was ahead, and I had to traverse across it. I didn't want to however, because my feet would get cold and wet....then quickly realized that I'm still playing Uncharted 2 >_>

True. I'm up to chapter 8, though, and so far they've been much better about limiting the enemy kill rooms this time around. Plus, the gunplay feels better to me now than it did in Uncharted 1, so I don't mind the gun battles as much. I think Uncharted 2 as a whole is far better-paced than the first game, with some nice breathers in between the gunplay. The fact that stealth and melee are far more viable options now also helps it.

Only thing I really lament is how linear the platforming is and how minimal exploration is in general. The game is so beautiful that I'd love it if it were a bit more open and allowed for some exploration.

That fight when they ambush you while you're in the cabin, culminating with
destruction of machine gun nest house above
it literally felt like a movie action scene to me. But regardless, if you stop and look, the jungle looks insanely good there.

The only ice I've seen so far is the intro. I can't believe that one reviewer said something about disappearing foot prints. They seem to last forever, I don't think I ever saw mine disappear. Only the wisp of snow powder that gets kicked up when you move your feet disappears because the snow falls back down.

The ice cave is the most beautiful level I have ever seen:O

I consider that the worst part of the game so far. Different tastes.

Isn't it tho? No spoilers intended, but it's the best portrayal of venturing into the Matterhorn ever portrayed. Brought back so many memories of Disneyland as a child...

edit: It's not supposed to be the Matterhorn, but it's of similar imagery.

Goddamn, the animations when you (chapter 17-ish major spoilers)
fight the first "yeti" are frickin' amazing. Loved when it grabs you by the throat and you keep shooting it in the face while Tenzin jumps onto its back and keeps stabbing it.
My face was stuck in :O mode.

Just finished the part where
you're holding the blue flame in the underground tunnel and following the blood trail.
The lighting in this game is so incredible it really makes me pause and gasp at times.

Yeah, still can't play online.

It just sends me right to final report when I somehow manage to get to a game. I tried to play a moment ago and it didn't even find a game for any modes. :\
I have set the PS3 to DMZ and the NAT type says 2 still there. I really haven't played online with PS3 before even though I've had it 2 years.

But on the single player Im at chapter 18. The game is really awesome.

There are outdoor scenes at times when the sun is shining very brightly and casting this hot glow over everything. Looks spectacular.

I said both sides need to chill on the overreacting of opinions, both those who have negative things and positive things and just discuss instead of getting so mad so we're both on the same page.

I enjoyed Borneo, it was even more beautiful than the jungle in Drake's Fortune...but I was also glad that it was a short as it was. I was more than ready to move on to new locations, and Nepal has blown me away.

One of the funniest (unintentional?) aspects of being in the beautiful Himalayan locale is the similarities to that classic Eddie Murphy vehicle from the '80s, The Golden Child.

"N-E-P-A-L! Viva Nepal! Viva Nepal!"

Even the
knife
that leads you there looks like the
Ashanti Dagger
from the film.

"I, I, I, I, I, want the
knife
."

"Who are you, Monty Hall? Don't spill any water." :lol

I didn't care for the combat in the first game. It was just ok. There's something different about 2, however, that makes me really look forward to the fights. I feel like I have a lot more freedom, I guess.

Make sure you do everything you wanted to be done for today before playing Uncharted 2.

:lol Just got back from work and everything. Nice free day from here on out!

It's raining in NY, so I have the blinds open, leaving just enough light for gaming with out me having to turn on my TV backlight. It's perfect gaming conditions right now. Speakers are cranked up and I have a hot cup of tea.

So awesome.

I had one freeze my whole playthrough, and I believe there were a series replies in this thread about it. Something about picking up a weapon at a certain point near the end of the game, then a freeze.

Yeah happened to me. Thankfully didn't lost any progression.

Just completed this game. Wow... I'm literally speechless. There may have been some frustrating gameplay pieces but this game was absolutely amazing. One of those few games where characters and action just draw you in and don't let go. To be honest haven't had a bond this strong to the characters this gen besides Metal Gear Solid 4.

It's too early to call out GOTY's since Street Fighter IV was released this year but damn. Naughty Dog may have lost me with the Jak sequels but they sure as hell have won me back by now. ::bow

Finished it in, pretty much, one sitting. Took me 11 hours on hard while taking in all the sights and getting to level 10 in multiplayer. Incredible experience from start to finish.

If anyone wants to play some co-op with me, as the usual faces either don't have it yet or are still playing single player, my PSN is Cagen, send me a friend request.

Im just sayin'. Tis the same every year.

2007:
Super Mario Galaxy hits - GAF: "GOTY!"
Bioshock hits - GAF: "GOTY!"
Halo 3 hits - GAF: "GOTY!"
Assassin's Creed hits - GAF: "GOTY!"
Uncharted hits - GAF: "GOTY!"
Mass Effect hits - GAF: "GOTY!"
Rock Band hits - GAF: "GOTY!"
Modern Warfare hits - GAF: "GOTY!"

etc. People need to start waiting for the year to end for this shit :lol

Uncharted 1 was my GOTY that year, I liked HALO 3 but I wouldn't call it my GOTY, didn't like ANY of those other games.

The next game is going to be set in Africa and Spain. That part is obvious
(even though there is no basis for it).

You're a quarter right, it's pretty likely that it will be set in the Middle East/North Africa. A lot of opportunities for both the supernatural/mythology and ancient relics to be plundered. And it gives a new palette for Naughty Dog to use, desert, winding old city streets.

i've had two system lockups and i'm on chapter 15 (i think, not much past that if not). 60gb full BC model, so yeah the model available right when they did the first price drop the summer after release.

but, checkpointing is so good in uc2, that it's really not much of an issue. still, i never like having to do a hard reset if i don't have to. one of the freezes i could hold the power button for 5 seconds and it reset, the other one i had throw the switch in the back :/

phew, and i thought i was the only one!

i'm STILL having problems with skipping music (which leads to freezing as its loading a cutscene up, if there's a cutscene up ahead)

plus the occasional freeze before the loading up of cutscenes in general.

i posted about it like 30 pages back:

Psykotik said:
damn it, i'm having some pretty major issues with the game freezing during loading screens (the spinning dagger) and during cutscenes.

the music starts to skip and during the transition from cutscene to gameplay, it just freezes and i have to do a hard reset.

i've even had it freeze once or twice during gameplay.

sometimes it just freezes on the loading screen and the music just keeps skipping.

i'm playing on a PS3 slim.

haven't had any problems like this with other games.

either i have a bad disc (i have a suspicion that the game is somehow struggling to keep up with the amount of data being streamed off the disc, probably because of it being bad maybe?) or the game is, god forbid, a bit buggy with regards to loading data.

Nepal is amazing. I spent so much time there just standing and looking around. Uncharted 1 had some great graphics but this game has moments that just blow it away.

Congrats mate, wish I could devote that amount of time to this in one sitting. Oh well I may get an hour or two in later tonight :(
Would love to play some co-op but I'm gonna get some practice in with some lower level people before playing with the GAF elite like you!

Great. So I just found out that after my 25-month-old 40 inch Samsung LCD HDTV died yesterday that the service guy won't be able to look at it until next Wednesday.

I refuse to play this game in standard def.

I can't believe this. I still own like $500 through financing on the set and it's already broken. It's going to cost $150 for the guy just o look at it too. I'm sure I'm going to get raped on the repair charges too.

I'm half tempted to just go out and buy a crappy Vizio for like 400 bucks or something.

From what I've heard, Vizio's are pretty damn good for gaming. Especially on the millisecond response time.
