I have the Asian version of the game, which came with a pre-order code for the Golden hand guns.
I downloaded the aforementioned item through the Hong Kong store, but unlike other items which can be shared b/w profiles. I can not use the golden guns with my US account (main account).
Ok just because of the major hype and the fact the first game was amazing, i decided to do something id never thought id do (again) and trade in my 360, all my games and my huge epenis and get a 250gb ps3 slim uncharted 2 bundle with infamous, resistance 2 killzone 2 and fifa 10.
Best decision iv'e made this year and im only on chapter 6 i think The whole helicopter sequence was pretty epic. Easily my game of the year already unless things really go downhill which i doubt very much.
Im just bummed im at work and not at home playing it
But it sucks as a game element for the simple reason the player isn't playing- he's watching. Failing to understand that fundamental difficulty results in player boredom. The worst offender in recent memory is probably MGS4, which traps the player in fifteen minute long dramatic sequences.
This is an inherent problem with story games. It is like text boxes in silent movies (instead of watching, you are reading). here: instead of playing you are watching. I think this kind of story telling in games will go away, because it is alien to the medium. the sooner, the better.
Please, answer me one simple question. Why bother with a story in a game if you can have much, much better narrative experiences in other mediums like books or to some degree in movies?
Better yet for all the questions directed at arne, what would you do for a klondike bar? Or, here's another one, are the skins released for multiplayer in special editions and giveways ever going to be available for dlc?
Finished the game last night and as expected another... Holy fucking Shit! That is the most cinematic experience I've ever had. I never stopped slobbering over the graphics the whole way through.
Now to get stuck into multiplayer... Will be seeing you online

Bizarre statement... Firstly, I don't understand why some people think putting you in the nameless (or faceless) role of the main character is necessarily a more compelling way to create a gaming narrative...
I have played half-life and Bioshock, two games which both champion this kind of ideal. I think it worked rather well in HL2, but certainly no better or worse than is tackled in games such as Uncharted. For one, it is an illusion of freedom, I mean you have no more control over the narrative, you can just look away when they are talking, but you can't influence where the stories goes by being nonchalant, care-free etc. This kind of narrative, at this stage, also makes story based scenes far less spectacular and interesting to watch in general than the way such scenes are handled in U2. Couple this with the fact that these gameplay cutscenes still have rather wack animation in comparsion, and I don't find them all that impressive at this stage.
Compared to movies, games have interactivity and a greater degree of immersion...I think in the long run they should have an advantage in terms of narrative compared to adventure and action films (all but the best, which are few these days).... I would say games offer an opportunity to offer a closer narrative experience to books than movies do
Long story short, a narrative approach (at least at this stage of implementation) similar to Bioshock and HL2 for Uncharted would be pretty rubbish in my opinion. Personally, I don't consider those games the height of narrative in gaming anyway. I far preferred stuff like Blade Runner and Outcast in the way the narrative played out in a somewhat fluid manner.
I did not mention Bioshock or HL2 in my post (did not even think of them). They might not be using the standard way of cut scenes, but they have scripted moments, which do the same... not convinced
UC2 might be the best "silent movie" of today I like it for what it is, a great action romp. But I don't understand why it wants to be like a movie, don't get it. It should be totally different from a movie...
I was never ever as immersed in a game's story as in a book. never. Games don't have the narrative tools available as books have to pull you in a characters head or into a story. Also, the game stories are pretty trivial, they don't tell you anything interesting most of the time. they are a vehicle to support gameplay... you can be immersed by gameplay, that is the point. story is pretty secondary...

1 it does not want to be a movie...
2 no, i don't think a game will ever be a book.. you see.. a book is a non visual experience.. so what you see in your mind.. is YOUR interpretation of the book.. that will never happen in a game..
3 i agree that most stories aren't that interesting anyway.. but they can help to make a game more immersive.
It's an issue that becomes far more serious when you're like me, searching every nook and cranny for the treasures. I'm not using a guide for the treasures, so I'm searching 'em out for myself. This game does not reward exploration many times. Because sometimes even if something looks like you should survive it within the rules of the Uncharted 2 gameworld, many times you'll be treated to a death instead. For no reason.
true, I'm not using a guide either (and I won't, even if I have to play through the game 10 times to find every treasure) and really enjoy my time exploring the levels thoroughly so a couple of times I had a WTF? moment when I dropped down a ledge or jumped to a platform within obvious reach just to get an instant death instead... otoh haven't got the "instant death coming into a house" issue yet but I'll try that today as I'm currently on my crushing run on that particular level.
It's the only flaw of the game really, affecting the ultra obsessive-compulsive level explorers like me :'( 99% of gamers won't notice though (gamefaqs guides etc)
edit: Arne, can the tips/tutorial be completely removed from the game? I turned them off but in the museum the "press circle to take cover" and some others hints kept appearing even on my second playtrough, only on that level though.
Playing through for my first time on Hard. Just got up to "Only one way out" and Im about half way through it. I'm having a blast so far. I really don't want it to end.
Also, with the money carrying over.... I have a US copy of Uncharted 1 and I finished the game before trophies. I got about half way through a second play through after the trophy patch. Anyway, I bought a PAL copy of Uncharted 2 and it only gave me $20 000 and said I need to finish the game to eran more $$. Can anyone (Arne?) tell me what's going on? Thanks

i actually enjoy looking for them now.. i'm amazed how much i still missed though...
i do like to be able to make a jump when i know it is within reach. doesn't matter if the jump leads to nothings, but if i can make a similar jump.. same for ledges upwards.
I really wish that Naughty Dog would make a short Uncharted game featuring Chloe as a downloadable PSN title to be released in between Uncharted 2 & 3, similar to what Insomniac did with Ratchet & Clank. I think Chloe would be a fun character to play as. Or Sully as a young man. Either way, I think it would be a fun way to mix things up, all the while leaving Drake as the playable character in the 3rd game.

Hmm don't know if I agree with the premise. Silent Films were working within that medium. Having title cards in between the moving pictures was how you made those films work. In gaming we have to sacrifice as well. Some games choose to sacrifice great narrative clarity and one might argue great emotion through entirely in-game cinematics (Half-Life) and some take the more traditional route that will take some people out of the experience (Metal Gear). I am a fan of both... when done right. For me this is the answer to every disagreement I ever have. When done right any medium will work.
GAFe Hero Kings are always welcome, I still haven't played coop (although I've played competitive with randoms) 'cause I was waiting and looking forward to playing with you guys :lol

Yeah. My copy came with that Amazon digital treasure map thing, and since I only have around 15 or so treasures left I'm almost wondering if I should just look at the final locations because of the silliness of the exploration issues.
Finished it on hard a few days ago, loooooved the game. But I do have some complaints.
The stealth wasn't that good.
And Jesus H. Christ HOW often do these people ALMOST fall into a ravine only to be rescued by an armstretch. That shit happens like 50 times in the game
Other than that, this is one of the best PS3 games ever.

I've heard that map only has the locations of the first five treasures. That's hilarious if true. That aside, I think there's a complete guide on GameFAQs for treasures, now.

First 6. :lol It's a pretty big file, almost 800MB so I'm wondering if it's a glitch that it won't go past the first page of maps or if they just got lazy and decided to stop doing the rest of the maps.

level 20 on MP. man, money seems to not be moving but I guess that's the point :'(
just played one of the worst matches - with two chatter females X_femmefatale_XX and hannah something. wow. the 2 retards wouldn't shut up about fucking this/that fuck fuck fuck ... "I didn't mean to insult you but your fart stinks"... had to mute them as they were both on my team. Yikes.
* One thing about co-op play - when you pick normal/easy... does it pair you up with people who play normal/easy or do you just kill enemies easier? I didn't read the manual but from what I skimmed at, it didn't say anything.
AND OH, STOP PICKING THE BETA MAPS! I want to play the lost city + the monastery inspired ones. X_X game needs more maps. Needs a borneo one and one more
shambala one with exploding sap pods
Even some Uncharted 1 inspired maps with a uboat in the middle would be great!
there were some tough bits throughout the game though, particularly areas like the beginning of Chapter 4. I think I died more there than anywhere else.

Asked this before but I think it was left unanswered. Is there the option to play the survival mode on your own or are you required to at least get a second player? Sometimes just going it on your own is a blast and having the option when match making is proving less than optimal would be nice.
Unfortunately while I have the game sitting in front of me the laser in my PS3 died right upon finishing the

I just need to start a Crushing run to plat' the game
I breezed through it on hard, probably thanks to the experience I made during the first one and the (awesome) multiplayer beta, only dying quite a few times in 2-3 spots (and this is good, Uncharted 1 had plenty of frustrating moments due to the unrealisticly endless swarms of goons in some crucial battles, with you always dying on the last dude because he could one-shot-kill you and no damn checkpoints between each wave, with the
plane crash site
being the worst offender because of it being really early in the game).
In general, I loved the game. I'm not sure if I'd call it GOTY because of some serious contenders (Batman above all), but it's probably the single PS3 exclusive I enjoyed most.
It's a really well crafted experience, oozing with high production values, and you can clearly see the effort that went into making this game as good as possible, and into getting past the shortcomings of the first one (they listened to the complaints people had and addressed almost all of them, so hats off to Arne and company).
I really appreciated the fact they toned down the swarms of enemies (okay, except the later chapters), the first game really overdid that and it wasn't fun. Fighting was much more enjoyable in this sequel because of the better level design, with much more freedom of movement, and the addition of stealth. They gave fighting the variety the first game lacked, which made shooting sections even more unbearable, and this noticeable change was probably the best improvement they could make.
I also have a few nitpicks that I hope will be addressed in the inevitable sequel, though.
First, human bullet sponges. What I loved about the first game was the complete lack of this issue. Except maybe
the mutated spaniards
(just because I can't remember, actually) everyone went down with a single headshot or grenade, like they should, and (except with the nearly-useless AK) they could survive just a few bullets elsewhere. Having humans survive huge amounts of bullets clashes with the overall, even if stylized, realism. Especially when they all die, or are seriously injured, with a single bullet in cutscenes. The human
train boss
was probably the worst offender (I found this fight really out of place and immersion-breaking), and even
heavily armored/gatling dudes, guardians and the final boss
could have had their health toned a bit down. I get they're supposed to be much tougher, but that was seriously overkill in my opinion.
Then, despite the addition of tougher enemies, the AI looked much less aggressive than in the first game. In Uncharted 1, all pirates were always jumping from cover to cover, trying to get closer and closer to you. Here, they're much more static and they often stay in the same place for the whole fight, with only shotgun-wielding dudes trying to approach you (and they rarely use covers at all, they behave like walking tanks careless about their own safety). I haven't played the game on Crushing, true, but in the first game I was amazed by the AI even on Normal. It hasn't happened this time.
Lastly, the fact I'm lacking a PAL code to play as Navarro, Eddy Raja or Roman is really unbearable. ND, fix this shit!
LOL, j/k, but I'd really appreciate a code to play at least as Raja
wow! what a first level! One thing I love is how slow Drake moves because he is hurt, if I had any complaints about UC1 and 2 its that Drake moves WAY too fast when hes jumping or scaling about.. I know its because people don't want to spend ages straddling a wall but it feels unnatural and floaty. I can't wait to play more.
The pacing of this game is very impressive, yes. Lots of other games struggle to maintain a consistent pace throughout, usually saving awesomesauce moments for the end, but practically every moment here is a setpiece encounter (even/especially when just watching Chloe climb a ladder).
Haven't got to do much MP yet, but I plan on tackling that tonight now that I've finally finished the campaign.
Most PS3 owners should buy it. Most wii and 360 owners should buy it too. It's the first PS3 game I've owned in 2 years that makes me go crazy, I can't see how one could regret buying it. And missing it would make any gamer incomplete.
EDIT: reading what I posted, I look like a Sonybot saying this, but I've been here long enough for people to know I'm not. I'm genuinely floored by the perfect gameplay/pace in both SP and MP, supported by perfect art direction and execution. This game is an anomaly, it can't be.
Oh, I forgot to mention I loved the dialogue (in English, the Italian translation was a true crime against mankind, especially considering how good the adaptation was in the first game).
I just hated Chloe,
I found her just a clichéd slutty sexualized woman meant to satisfy the appetites of young males, something I was happy Elena wasn't in the first game (and in this one as well). Some dialogue involving her was still funny, but what I actually didn't like was the concept itself: I might miss her ass, but not her character, and this isn't good. I hope she doesn't get back in the sequel (but I know she will).
