you know..ive only just started the game (chapter 4) but I find it hard to believe any game will ever be able to match the story complexity of MGS4. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but as far as presentation goes I don't think it has real equal. Granted most of these moments are cut-scene material.

The very fact you're making this claim after 30 minutes of gameplay is laughable.

There's a warranty hotline number in the back of the manual.
I actually just dug up my receipt so I'll try exchanging it first but if that doesn't work then I'll call the number. Thanks for the heads up.

What PS3 model do you own?
A Slim, Uncharted is the first game I've played this much on the slim. Back when I had a 40gb fat I played things this much and it never happened, so that worries me a bit.

I think youre confusing "complexity" with "nonsense".

Is this taken? If not, mine.

I even thought Uncharted 1 was the new benchmark, but nothing that I've played is in the same ballpark with Uncharted 2 as far as characterization, dialogue, voice-acting, direction, pacing...

People have complained about cutscenes in the past because "damn it I want to play the game not watch it", but I think the other reason is because quite simply cutscenes sucked. UC 2 shows that when done well, cutscenes can be an enjoyable and welcome part of a game. I looked forward to and enjoyed every scene in this game and on my third play-through right now I still don't skip them (maybe one or two). I just feel a connection to these characters.

The MGS series has broken some ground and Kojima did some unique things but as everyone knows it's so poorly paced and directed, and I can't relate to any of the characters at all except Snake a little.

edit: During that scene when, forgot the name and chapter,
you have to solve that puzzle by moving the big statues arms and Jeff and Elena are waiting outside
. When I first got in the area I watched Chloe as she walked around the room nonchalantly and she looked at all the stuff and made little offhand comments, it was cute and it's those little details that really make this game.

I don't follow this stuff all that closely, but are the Uncharted games the first instances where the voice actors also did the motion capture for their characters?

So is Uncharted 2 considered the new benchmark for story presentation and dialogue in a video game? Or is there another game out there that still tops it in those areas?

None it stands alone. It even beats HL2 for me which is almost sacrilegious.

Uh-oh. I was hoping what that Super_Secret guy said on the N4G forums wasn't actually true.

A Cheaper Blu-ray drive is being used. It wont be any slower, but expect to see similar issues that another competitor had a while ago.

Any thoughts?

By the way, I just found how to be able to play Crushing with tweaks on in your first runthrough.

A nice little trick if you are struggling to complete Crushing first time round.....want tweaks on?

Okay, play through crushing until you get to chapter five. Then, go to chapters and load chapter 4 on crushing. Then, pause, go into options change the difficulty to hard and activate any tweaks you want to. Save and quit to the main menu. Then, go into game options and change the difficulty back to crushing, and select continue. Viola, crushing with tweaks, and you will still get the trophies.

He didn't say story complexity. Thankfully, Uncharted 2's story isn't as complex as Metal Gear Solid 4's. However, the dialog is so much better than MGS4's it's not even funny. Presentation-wise, it's more preference.

Took a video showcasing the following tweaks in action (simultaneously):

Slow Motion
No Gravity
Next Gen filter

Plus, fat Drake (pay attention to his voice :lol)

All action takes place in Nepal (chapter 5), from arrival to collapsing building.

Thanks to Blimblim for hosting it on Gamersyde :)

Thanks, will check that out later. I spent $80,000 on the making of videos after beating the game. Don't wanna waste money on the filters since I probably won't go through the game again but I wanted to see how they looked!

Well that sucks, I just got my copy exchanged with no problems, but hopefully cracked discs don't start cropping up with the slim because I don't feel like dealing with this with my PS3 now.

Yeah, I have a slim myself since my launch 60GB died.

ND make a scifi Half Life type FPS please!!
Yes we definitely need more shitty sci-fi fps games (not attacking Half Life here).
Resistance is like the worst thing that ever happened to Insomniac.
I just want ND to keep on trucking with Uncharted.
Take another two years to release a third Uncharted and by the time the PS4 comes out bring out a new ip.

more like 90 minutes..but I hope you are right.

EDIT: wether you think the MGS4 story is nonsense or not, you have to admit that it's well told on a presentation standpoint. In my opinion the opening cinema/stage of MGS4 was a lot more visually powerful then the one in U2..although both were pretty awesome.

In comparison U2 feels like an Indiana Jones movie. and MGS4 feels like an epic sci-fi western when they start.

Ohh ye of little faith, just bc its a scifi FPS does not mean it has to be shitty.
They have the tech and writing skills to pull it off.
I remember an old interview when they said how close an idea they had for a game was to bioshock. GG has the tech but their writing let KZ2 down. Isomniac God bless them they are great but R2 was abysmal. ND is the last hope for a franchise story driven FPS on the playstation.

A lot of devs have a great concpetual art team and by the time it gets on the computer it becomes so diluted it looses any sense of purpose. ND has shown they can take it from paper to product in high quality.

I'd love to see what ND would do with an Alpha Protocol type game. With spies and espionage... actually some of the dialogue in UC2 made me think of James Bond a little bit, particularly the
Heist part. The interaction and quips between Flynn and Drake reminded me of the relationship between Alec Trevelyan and Bond in Goldeneye. It also had something to do with the English accent.

I liked MGS4 a lot, but UC2 stomps all over it in its presentation. The actors are great, the dialog is not forced, and the story is fun.

WTF? A misstep doesn't make an awesome developer as Insomniac unable to deliver. I'm actually confident they are going to sell a shoe with every copy of Resistance 3.

Don't want to derail by going too deep into Insomniacs misstep with the Resistance franchise, but I will say this I hope they take much longer bringing out R3.

Same goes for ND, they should not rush straight into U3, either give us Jack or a new IP and not uncharted kart :lol

Did anyone else try out the Amazon preorder bonus of the digital treasure map? When I tried it there are only 6 treasures listed and it's a 750 MB download. That can't be right, can it?

I love the game, but if the map is not borked, that's probably the lamest preorder "bonus" ever.

yeah I read that. I didn't even bother downloading it. I only ordered from Amazon because it saved me about $14 with discounts and free shipping. Every little bit helps..although I've just started playing after waiting for a week for it to get here.

I don't know where my other post went... but anyways a lot of R2s problems stemmed from what you touched on. The game was rushed, and it definitely shows in the presentation. Insomniac makes a new game each year, which is awesome, because we get to play something new, but it ends up that the games take a hit on the quality.

That being said, R1 was rushed out the door for launch and to me at the time the game was flawless. It was incrediblly smooth, no tearing or framerate problems. The story and gameplay was fun, and the online was incredible. It's not so much a time issue as design choices. The 2nd one tried to break into the mainstream by taking elements of COD and Halo and misxing them together. It was all very sloppy and a very strange transition from the first one.

Speaking of cracked discs, the 1st game I put in my PS3 Slim was Batman and it had a crack in the middle. I don't know if it was there before or if the PS3 Slim caused it.

So GAF, I'm about done with the game about to get my multi-player on but a thought just crossed my mind. I never really played the first Uncharted. Is it worth going back and picking up, or does this game blow it away so badly that I shouldn't really bother? kthxbye

The first Uncharted is still excellent. A lot of people complained about the shooting but I never had any issues. I think the story itself is better in UC1. The graphics are also still godly, just not as godly as UC2.

The actual presentation of the story in MGS4 was very good, though, at least during action scenes. The camera work, direction, audio usage, etc were all excellent.

I haven't started multiplayer with the retail copy yet, but have done a fair bit of co-op. I'm at Level 9 or something. Out of curiosity, will the game pit me against Level 9 players in multiplayer? Bit worried since I have virtually no actual multiplayer experience beyond fighting AI characters.

Just hit level 28 in MP. The game is the new multiplayer crack.

It's great but I'm so sick of killing someone with my fists and then a fragment of a second later dying myself from the guy i just killed, people leaving the games (seriously i had a game today where i was alone with another guy against 5!), oh and of coursematchmaking is so slow.
