Technically, the game is a bit of a mess right now. This is a true beta.
Yeah. The Gears 3 beta, which could have passed for a super-polished finished product, really spoiled me. Hopefully they get this ironed out quickly.
Even if the technical issues get fixed, there are still a few problems imo. I played for 4-5 hours in the "HK" beta, thoughts below:
1. Sprint is clunky. Movement during a sprint feels haphazard and the actual mobility increase is negligent.
2. Strafe speed while aiming needs an increase. There's basically no way to out-strafe your opponent in a 1v1 battle.
3. Cursed is fucking garbage and I hate it. Remove that shit.
4. Power plays in general are annoying. Double damage and Marked Man encourages the winning team to camp.
5. G-MAL is awesome and I love it.
6. Boosters seem mostly inconsequential. Their effects are very underwhelming, though I suppose this could be a good thing to some.
7. Airstrip intro is boring and drawn-out once the novelty wears off.
8. AK-47 needs less recoil or more damage. It feels very random, compared to the sublime G-MAL.
9. RPG kickback is annoying; it's extremely frustrating to turn a corner into a guy who's carrying an RPG. It feels random and there's really no way to see it coming and react.
10. The first pistol is awful. Needs less recoil or more damage.
11. Direct impacts with the Hammer aren't lethal. Feels like they should be.
12. Leveling curve feels a bit too steep. I was playing exceptionally well during my time with the beta; an inexperienced player could potentially find frustration in how long it takes to level up after levels 5 or 6.
13. Spotting should be like in Gears 3 for two reasons: 1. It helps teams work together even if no one has a mic, and 2. The maps are large without clearly defined areas (red base, blue base, etc...), so call-outs will be very ambiguous unless a dedicated team spends hours coming up with correct terminology for every nook and cranny.
That's it for now. I'll add more if I think of any.
