Uncharted 3 MP Beta Thread: Cinematic Murder Testing

Just had a string of perfect games in Hardcore. Man, this beta is great when it works. Even with all the changes, it still feels like Uncharted MP to me, which is a good thing. Graphics look great on Chateau, not so much on Airstrip.

Pistol needs to be slightly buffed though, either in reduced recoil or a bit of extra damage. 6 direct hits and no kill = :|.

EDIT: Oh, and I happened to randomly encounter Marius_ in matchmaking and subsequently shot him in the ass multiple times while he was hanging from some rocks on Chateau :D.
 
In case anyone wants another impression to add to the mountain of impressions:

When the game isn't lagging up to high hell, I think it's great/fun. That being said, there are some very apparent flaws that NEED to change. (which is what my impressions will focus on!)

1. Controls: Goddamn they feel soooo... clunky. I'm still enjoying the game regardless but with a few tweaks (in the vein of uncharted 2) I'd be all set. I think the majority of my frustration comes from walking/jogging speed. It needs to be increased IMO.

2. Sprint: Unlike many here, I actually think 'SPRINT!!!' has potential. I like the feature and it has actually saved my ass in more than one occasion. It's just that the camera shits out (zooms in) when you use it which is quite frankly, annoying and unnecessary. ESPECIALLY in hallways... Basically, don't have the camera shit out... yea...

3. Sound: I was sort of hoping there was more talking... between characters and stuff. Or just more noises. I noticed in the chateau level when you slide down the zip line thing there isn't a noise... THAT REALLY BOTHERED ME!!! I don't see alot of people giving a shit about this so am I the only one who carrs?

4. I don't really have a forth problem...

5. Pistol: But I have a fifth! And that is the pistol. Or at least the first one... it's pretty damn useless. Mind you this is coming from someone who loved using the pistol in Uncharted 2 so I'm very disappointed... :/

Well, I guess that's it. I'm actually enjoying the fuck out of power plays which is surprising because I was absolutely in the 'I am purest. I am UC2. UC3 = MWfared. Heart broken. OMGWTF IS THAT A FING SCARAB!?!?' camp. They feel... intense. And I quite like the change of pace and adrenalin rush they offer. (apparently the skeleton one sucks ass, can't say/haven't played it)

I haven't really gotten into the busters though so maybe they'll be awesome/suck. Will play tomorrow!

yup, makes the TDM much more exciting, in one match the powerplays were reversing on one team to another, and it ended on an overtime, so good

You arent the only one who cares about sound. Sound and music really help bring a game from being just great to being amazing.
 
Pistol has extremely agressive aim assist though, it basically aimbots for you.
If they d up the power they need to remove that or everyone will just run around with pistols.

Pistol still works great with a shield and a teammate behind you (get tons of kills and assists with it) and is plenty effective when hanging from a ledge and being a tiny target to shoot at.

If they are going to make it able to compete with a rifle in any situation, then why bother with an ammo counter on rifles at all.

I hate the sprint camera too, reminds me a bit of gears.
Maybe it's intended so people don't abuse it to get around/run from gunfire all the time.
I personally like people not Constantly sprinting around, the runspeed is still pretty good.

Yep, and to be honest, so far I haven't lost a game (or won) due to powerplay where I didn't think we fully deserved the loss/win.
It helps balance out random lucky nade/kill streaks (as in many kills, not cod choppers :p ) where the winning team wasn't actually bothering to work together or protect eachother.

Lol, no. One guy can hold each side entrances easily. My team went 12-0 just on the airplane because one guy covered each side entrance and the rest focused on the back.

I mainly want the movement speed upped.

Heroes know about them too.

I just hang the side of a truck and wait for some poor bastard to pop his head out, then lob a grenade right in his face. Works quite well. Too bad my teammates insist on jumping into that tiny door all at once.

You'd better keep it as it is Arne... or else >:-(.

Also, it'd be nice to add in something on the scoreboard or somewhere else telling you how many medals you've accumulated during the match. Reuse the UC2 animations too so it looks less janky when I'm jumping and hanging onto stuff.

no matter what you do or say, no person will be 100% happy... except... ME.. I played with a PSN friend yesterday.. only played Hardcore.. and goddamn I loved it.. I got my ass served the first game, but then I got the hang of it.. And I had some hours of serious fun. Off course there are/where some glitches, but despite them I loved the game.. I will be there day one for the final release (if I can convince my wife to give me my wallet back)..

QFT. I don't understand how they have this kick ass buddy system but the characters aren't talking more. I want to here one liners along with those celebratory taunts. I want to hear characters yell because of grenades. This should have a lot more personality than it does currently. And the zipline thing is really weird too.

Besides that and the major freezing, and framerate glitches though, Hardcore is fun as HELL, man. I love it.
 
Finally played for ~3 hours without a problem. Game is pretty fun. I really do wish it was less slow and clunky though. Buddy system is awesome. I like picking up treasures as well. Never been the victim of an annoying kickback or powerplay. Though I probably annoyed other people with the bug swarm kickback.

Beta highlight so far: Meleed some dude and he called me a "son of a bitch" over his mic. I then proceeded to pump his corpse.

You can't even run TOWARDS cover if the player shooting you is decent at aiming.
I've never made it to cover when I wasn't already next to it (within 1 roll range so like 5-10feet) vs anyone who was doing okay.

i know we still have mocap and adr sessions left, plus, a lot of this stuff came in towards the end when we show the game and nolan starts adlibbing over gameplay and MP. i think we're probably on the same track this game around. obv for all the characters.

Anyone noticed you can close the hangar doors in the plane level?

Theres a big button at floor level on the wall next to at least one of the garage style doors.

Btw. Arne (sounds like an old classmate in kindergarden, that is a very common name in Denmark) are there any known problems with Party system..? I joined a friends party yesterday, we waited for 10 min. in matchmaking and nothing happened, then he joined me instead, and after 2 min. waiting we found a game. But when we try to join a game without being in a party, then we join in less than 30 seconds. Strange ..

The beta finally started working properly for me. Played about four straight games without any, disconnects or freezing. :]
Tried some FFA, and went 15-2 my first game. Seems to work pretty well, at least on Chateau. Spent half of my time just looking for people on Airstrip.Didn't get to try out Yemen.

Yea, the movement could be tweaked a little more closer to U2 because it just feels clunky right now and I'm not one to say that about any game. I adjusted to KZ2 rather quickly so I hope I can adjust here.

Sprint doesn't bother toooo much but it reminds me of when Slant Six put in sprint for SOCOM: Confrontation. It sounds like a good idea in some games, but other games that are already fast and fluid shouldn't have it because it just slows everything down for the most part. I'm not sure if you're any slower in UC3 than you are in UC2 but I'm always a fan of being fast to begin with in certain games.

Sprint isn't too big of a concern of mine but the clunkiness is. I adapt to games pretty quickly and get over most of it but it annoys me a little more here considering how I remember U2 being so damn smooth with the perfect controls.

Just my suggestions as this is a great game. Hell, I would've been happy with the character customization and new maps. :D

Health is good. The weapons are extremely unbalanced, though.
Handgun, pistole, melee and headshot damage should be buffed up, UZI and G-MAL should be buffed down.
 
I recall my second match, Chateu (which looks so awesome compared to the very dry look of Airstrip, but it's an airstrip, so...) and I was so ready to play again, I started the match and climbed the little wall with an arch in the middle and there's a point where you can go left and down the hall, or there's this little rock that an enemy could climb up. The second I got up there I saw a guy popping up and shooting at a teammate, I climbed right up the damn thing and kicked him off, so satisfying, immediately the "aww yeah" feeling of Uncharted awesomeness. Went on to be a great match. Loving the ability to monkey around, as good as, if not better, than Uncharted 2 in the two maps I've tried. Being able to scale and use the environment actively set U2 apart for me pretty immediately.
 
Stuff I don't like:
• No PSN messages for invites (cross-game invites)
• No invite-notifications (which would be solved if they just used PSN messages, just like ALL new games and even U2)
• Slow camera-turning
• Sprint could be a bit faster. Just a bit.
• Melee still sucks. Unless they don't see you. Then it's awesome (instant kill with nice animations). Perhaps they should try another approach to this.
 
The health is perfect. It removes the lone wolf game play single handily. The only people I see complain are those who don't team-up.

The only thing I wanted changed is the sniper. Give me back my L1 mini zoom, and then L3 scope zoom. Close corners combat is impossible now.

When it comes to the health/damage department, do what you feel is best for your vision and don't cave to the fans. Fans will learn to adjust, but as you know from UC2, it is impossible to please everyone.

* Why do i have to pay medals to change my loadout? This is one of the dumbest things ever in a multiplyer shooter

* The sprint system is really bad and needs to go.

Or...just leave the health as is so we have a fighting chance when coming under fire :P

It still happens intermittently. So far so good for about the last 2 hours for me.

Edit: I just got kicked out of the game for killing teammates, at the lobby screen? Even though I know my entire party and they didn't kick me?

Not really. When I was playing with Gaffers after the HK beta launched, no one was talking or coordinating or teamshotting on purpose. Not to say that the team was doing anything wrong, I mean we won at least 10 games straight in a commanding fashion. It was a fucking massacre. Asses were handed out on silver platters.

Lone wolves can do just fine provided they have the skill, which is as it should be. I hate games like Halo Reach that make it near-impossible to finish kills at medium-long range without being assisted. Not that teamplay is bad in UC3, it's just isn't necessary to have fun.

No problems here so far, aside from some laggy bullet impacts here and there.
