Uncharted 3 MP Free to Play details

How about DLC to triple the sensitivity ND? I'd pay for that coz right now your game is unplayable for me, like I'm controlling a tank in MP. :(

Hopefully this is testing a new marketing approach where instead of buying everything in a game for $60 upfront you can buy the bits and pieces you want - and if you want everything it's $60.

Fixed.

What if I bought Season Pass when U3 launched but sold U3, will I get access to full multiplayer?
I don't know. Really wish Eric would have done a better job explaining what this means for current/previous owners. A simple FAQ would have sufficed.

It wasn't free to play to start with so I don't see what the issue is. You had to buy the entire game before and now you don't.

I was posting under the assumption that level effected your effectiveness as a player. If it doesn't, then fine.

Also, can we get past this idea that devs and publishers are doing you a favor by making a game free to play, and therefore free games are above criticism?

They don't do it out of charity, or because they like you; they do it because it's a proven way to make money from a multiplayer game.

Level 15 is a really good cap, you won't be at much of a disadvantage to higher level players, if any at all. You unlock the three best slot one boosters (Cloaked, Scoped In, Fleet Foot) and the three best slot two boosters aside from Team Safe (Back in the Saddle, Monkey Man, and Treasure Hunter). You'll also have the Quick Boom kickback, which is one of the best if not the best.

Treasure Hunter will be useful for unlocking the character variations of the G-MAL, AK-47, Dragon, Para 9, and Arm Micro (these have two or three preset mods each, no need to level up past 15 for single mods). Also, you can buy the best gun in the game, the M9 in the Jade or Flynn variant, from the PS Store for 99 cents (Jade M9 is a level 75 unlock otherwise, Flynn's M9 is a treasure set unlock, but level 16 is required to use it if you have the set completed.)

Awesome F2P loadouts:

AK-47 (Drake's, Eddy's, Navarro's)
Para 9 (Marlowe's, Drake's)
Fleet Foot/Cloaked
Monkey Man/Back in the Saddle
Quick Boom

G-MAL (Roman's, Elena's, Flynn's)
Para 9 (Marlowe's, Drake's)
Fleet Foot/Cloaked/Scoped In
Monkey Man/Back in the Saddle
Quick Boom

Dragon Sniper (Sully's, Draza's)
Para 9 (Marlowe's, Drake's)
Cloaked/Scoped In
Monkey Man
Quick Boom

Awesome F2P plus 99 cents loadout:

Jade M9/Flynn's M9
Para 9 (Marlowe's, Drake's)
Fleet Foot/Cloaked
Monkey Man/Back in the Saddle
Quick Boom

The best loadout in the game. Good for anything and does it all.

IMO, there's a lot of fun be had for free. 15 seems like a low cap but you really aren't missing much.

Jesus buying every bit of the multiplayer cost more than just buying the game itself.
Yup, pricing wasn't very good at all. Should of gone something like,
Level 25 - $2
No Level Cap - $5 (or $3 if you already bought Level 25)
Co-op Arena - $5
Co-op Adventure - $5
Splitscreen - $5
Singleplayer - $10

So the full game would cost $30, which is at least reasonable even though you could find it for $20-25 at many retailers.

Awesome news! Played some of the MP yesterday and the only thing I don't like is the low player count. 2V2V2 is still amazing and will be ever more amazing with more variety in opponents.

Download size:

Holy shit. 4.8 gig just for the multiplayer? I'm assuming that's including the singleplayer stuff as well, which is weird since they shouldn't force you to download that unless you buy it.

Well, consider all the patches made to the game + the DLC and then all the assets... I could understand it being 4 GB standalone. All the DLC map packs in total adds up close to 1 GB for instance.

How does it work if you already played the multiplayer in the main game? Does it reset you when moving to the FTP version?

It doesn't reset, your stats are rolled over HOWEVER if you don't have the game disk, you will be capped at level 15 unless you unlock it.

I traded the game in a while back (regrettably) and still have the online pass on my console, would this affect this free download ?

It won't affect the free download. The online pass on your console won't allow you to unlock the full MP component, you'll have to enter into the whole free-to-play structure or be capped at lv 15

If I have the disc version of Uncharted 3, can I just download the f2p version and never have to put in the disc again if I want to play online?

Again, short answer is no you can't if you want to play the full online experience.

Well there's map packs and the co op cutscenes which I'm sure are all included in the base F2P download. With Single Player the game would probably blow up to ~40GB's, it's a dual layered game I believe.

Thanks for that. You guys should add it to the ND/PS blog posts.

I have a question, the KZ3 F2P MP has a level cap too, with that, can you also continue to play for free if you don't care about leveling?

Yes, you can keep playing free once you've hit the level cap, you just won't gain levels or get any of the unlockables after lv 15.

Fixed.

There's a FAQ page that isn't live yet that answers most of these questions (that I'm already answering).

Arne my question didn't get answered, what if I bought the season pass but don't have the disk anymore. Do I have access to the full multiplayer without cap.

Same as all the other don't have the disk questions - If you don't have the game disk, you will be capped at level 15 unless you unlock it. However your stats do roll over, so you will just be capped at lv15 and don't have access to all the stuff you already unlocked.

Oh yes, I don't know for KZ3. Why would I know what KZ3 does?! :)
Indeed, I didn't mean to ask any specific person, this thread just reminded me.

I think it's cool Sony does this, especially with a game like Uncharted that is so known for it's campaign, generally, also when there's going to be a healthy gap between whenever the next iteration of the franchise would release.

where do i find the download guys? not seein it on the store under uncharted 3.
It's not up yet. It'll go up later today when the store is updated.

Hey arne, can you still play the game if you reach the level 15 cap? I'd assume so but I'm just curious.
They answered this in the Joystiq interview. You can keep playing and if you decide later on to purchase the lv cap unlock you'll automatically lv up to your real lv.

Xav De Matos said:
Naughty Dog's concept of free-to-play tries to make the most of the time and effort players put into the game, retroactively rewarding players that surpass the free-to-play level cap if they decide to purchase a the level cap remover.

"The interesting thing that we're doing with the free-to-play is: say you're at level fifteen and you've accumulated hours and hours of experience points; once you actually purchase the rank unlock – the level cap removal – your rank automatically hits the level that you would be at with the playtime you've invested," Cogburn told us.

Am I correct in thinking they ruined UC2's multiplayer with 3's?

Erm... they ruined UC2's MP with patch 1.05. Waaaaaaaay before UC3 came along. Unless you mean they ruined what made the multiplayer good in UC2 with UC3 by stuffing it with COD-like mechanics. In which case, I agree.

Welp, cutting some previous owners off at the knees. Typical of Naughty Dog though. :/

Doesn't affect, but those prices are kind of ridiculous.

lol.

Uncharted 3 comes in a dual-layer blu-ray disc.

Am I correct in thinking they ruined UC2's multiplayer with 3's?

Well yeah, UC2 had balance, better core mechanics, and fantastic maps, but then they destroyed it with the health patch and oversized DLC maps.

UC3 brings back the high health, but adds way too much stat-changing features that ruin the balance and core mechanics of UC2. I want UC2 styled MP back so bad

That said, UC3 is still fun if you put aside the frustrations. If anything, I want to jump back in to play Classic mode now that more players may play.

This seems like a good concept for those who want to try the MP out for this game for free, I guess and if a person likes it they can invest into the GOTY edition or unlock the full MP.

I always preferred U2's multiplayer to U3's multiplayer even after that health patch, but U3 is still a very fun game to play online don't get me wrong here.
