Uncharted 4 multiplayer will have no dedicated servers

That sounds like a NAT Type/connectivity issue. It's not country-specific.

You need to port forward and/or enable UPnP on your router... or Sony could finally implement IPv6 on the PS4, so NAT wouldn't be needed anymore.

That being said, I fully expect NAT Type 3 juggernauts (aka zero bar warriors) to make a triumphant return and ruin plenty of matches. :S

Thanks! Yeah, Sony enabling IPv6 would make things so much easier.

So of course now when I get home, I need to check my router to see if port forwarding/UPnP is enabled....

Also, my experience with Sony's franchise multiplayer dying quickly is based on Killzone Shadowfall, which is obviously a different story and won't mean that UC4's multiplayer will dry up quickly. "Ghost town" is too strong of a word.

I played TLoU R's multiplayer a bit for the trophies and it would almost always match me up with American players. All things considered the lag wasn't that bad considering I was playing against guys living a few thousand km away from me but still. There was still lag. Dedicated servers and proper matchmaking options would have improved the experience a fair bit. An optional server browser displaying the actual ping would have been even better.

So yeah this is a bit disappointing.

How many console games have server browsers? That may be a "shooting for the stars" kinda wish.

Just replace those vague bars with actual numbers (milliseconds).

Why is that so hard? I don't think it's Sony's fault this time around.

Rocket League is an indie game and it shows milliseconds.

No surprise here since it's always been this way with ND's multiplayer.

On the other hand, it seems that PS+ as an online requirement made mp codes dissapear, wich is cool because it was a hassle, nothing else tho.

It doesn't matter that is always been this way. Sony wasnt charging for MP then.

Charging a premium to be able to play online them making your MP p2p is scummy.

Funny to read these comments now when people were okay with Microsoft doing this very same thing back in 2006.

It's not 2006 anymore. This is a flagship Sony title. This thread is embarrassing, if Halo had just launched using P2P this thread would be 100 pages long.

Should it matter how it used to be though? Since they now charge for multiplayer.

Oddly enough i never had many connection issues in uc2, uc3 and tlou. Not even in TR remastered for that matter.
That being said, i would prefer dedicated servers as well OFC.

you know what fucked? last gen MS charged a subscription fee and almost never offered servers for it's games while Sony had a free service and a good number of first party games had dedis.

How many Uncharted games have launched since we started paying for online.

I see the point you are trying to make, but eh I played Warhawk and Resistance 2 on the PS3 without paying for PS Plus online and both had dedicated servers. Because we are paying for PS Plus you feel like ND/Sony offering us dedicated servers is the least they could do correct?

Yeah I know :/ I don't really play much online, and much less on consoles. But I always miss server browsers. They are the easiest way for me to make sure I'll have a game without significant lag.

Yeah I find that weird too. Offering the option shouldn't be hard — they already gotta measure the latency to come up with these bars (I'd guess it's something simple like ping < 100ms: 4 bar, 100 < ping < 200 ms: 3 bar, etc.).

I won't be picking this up as I don't have a PS4 and enough time to justify one, but I hope the netcode is good for you guys. Not having dedi's when your paying for an online service in this day and age is really disappointing as a consumer. Considering H5, which has just launched, even uses dedi's for private co-op!

I understand Sony's predicament though, you can't just pull your infrastructure to achieve this from no where. MS have a lot of money invested in the cloud, and it shows.

Also, to the folk on about '06, MS still provided matchmaking servers for games in '06. Meant publishers didn't have to provide their own matchmaking servers, just code the ability to do it. That's one of the main reasons live became very seamless and unified at the time. It simply wasn't feasible to provide dedi's in '06 with the XBL price tag.

I've played U2, U3, TLOU, and TLOU:R all online, and I have not experienced this game-breaking lag people are complaining about. I don't really remember any issues with lag in any of those games.

I'm assuming it was a huge problems and many GAF threads were created because of it? I don't remember seeing any and a quick search didn't yield many results either. Maybe I just blocked them out because I had no issues.

Is grumbling about every new exclusive the new normal here? (Is it even new?)

Those games didn't have multiplayer locked behind a paywall.

...And yet, Battlefield: Bad Company 1, 2/Battlefield: 3/4 had dedicated servers for FREE on Playstation Network for PS3. So, ...Your point?

The fact that people are still using P2P in the year of our lord 2015 is inexcusable. MGO is nothing but a lag-fest. I expect there to be lag switches just like Uncharted 2's multiplayer here. :/

It's not lag in the sense that everyone is skipping around everywhere and it's impossible to shoot anything, and no one said it was "game-breaking". It's the tick rate they use for their games online.

A quick Google search tells me that "Tick Rate" is how frequently your game client is updated by the server you are playing on.

Someone pointed out earlier in the thread that all ND games run at a 15hz tick rate, which means all info from every player is updated by the server 15 times a second. Increasing this value means that in-game player actions are displayed faster and thus more accurately, which would in turn cut down on a lot of the BS that I was talking about in the OP.

*Grumble* *Grumble*

You'll find plenty of threads on ND forums. That's where you'll find most dedicated ND online gamers.

That never was how it works on ND games, theres ways to always be the host
What ways?

Being the party leader in a party of 5?

You do understand that there is still server infrastructure in place that needs to be maintained even if a game does not have dedicated servers yes?

so steam, 3DS, DS, PS3, Wii, WiiU stores don't exist?

PS+ is required for multiplayer not the server infrastructure of the store. But yet we don't get any dedicated servers for Sony games....makes sense.

Even then.....the standard servers aren't even that fucking great. I love my PS4 but when you start charging people to pay for servers, you better start giving us the service we payed for.
