Uncharted The Nathan Drake Collection gameplay

what was wrong with it?

Mess is an exaggeration, but it clocks in well below expectations of what a remaster should be in this generation. As opposed to something like... The Uncharted Collection.

Dishonored wasn't an especially demanding game for PCs of 2012, which is what makes it the most concerning.

GOW3-R is not what you call a lazy port, a lazy port is doing absolutely no improvements to textures and lighting or anything significant and still running sub 30fps, well that's the lowest anyway, there are different scales.

Thank you. People calling God of War 3 a lazy port have no idea what a lazy port is.

Saints Row IV....thats lazy.

A couple of things.

1. I hope they fixed the motion blur in Uncharted 3 on the ship parts (it was screwed up there... if you panned really fast there was a diamond shape in the center of the screen that went all the way to the edges that wasn't blurred at all).

2. I hope they include an option to play them at 30fps like the originals. Call me insane, but the 60fps just doesn't look right to me with these types of games. I don't want Uncharted to look like an arcade game. (Yes, 60fps reminds me too much of cheesy arcade games).

Will be picking this up, even though I've played all the games (especially 1 & 2) loads of times, probably more than any other series. I want to replay the trilogy before 4, and this will definitely be the way to do it (especially UC1 could be pretty rough to go back to on the PS3 now). UC4 MP beta access will be a sweet bonus. I hope they really nail it this time, which would basically mean going back to what made UC2 MP 1.0 so great. That was my favorite online shooter ever.

Those sections of the first and second game are probably going to be a little tense on Brutal difficulty.

Wait, they're adding a new hardest difficulty? Holy shit, had not heard that. UC1 in particular is already pretty damn hard on Crushing, so that will be quite something. 2 & 3 are considerably easier (their Crushing is like 1's Hard), but still no cakewalk.

Yeah 3 new modes.
  • Explorer Mode is an all-new mode for beginners where combat difficulty is reduced greatly.
  • Speed Run Mode adds a timer that allows players to track their gameplay time against their friends as they play sections of the game.
  • Brutal Difficulty Mode is the ultimate challenge as the gameplay will be more punishing than Crushing Difficulty (unlocked after beating Crushing Difficulty in the same game).

They're also reducing the amount of damage enemies take, making Crushing easier, so I can understand why they're doing it.

me too. It reminds me of arcade games.. cheap arcade games.
but you get used to it.

I'm wondering if this collection will make people re-evaluate their opinion on Uncharted 3. I always thought it was as good as the 2nd game, if not a little bit better (minus the Shipyard section). Better villain and story too, and some incredible set pieces.

Having played Uncharted 3 first, I think playing through this collection will just highlight how weak the game is. Frustrating level design, disjointed and random story bits, and less fun-to-fight enemy types. I was shocked when I moved to Uncharted 2 and started having unconditional fun.

EDIT: Wait, 60fps is an arcade game? WTF, did you just skip the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox generation? Some of the best console games ever made were 60fps.

it should be trivial to add a 30 frames option. maybe if they do they can add in better blur etc. dint tlou do some of this?

Will Crushing be unlocked right away then? Having to beat the game twice just to unlock Brutal would be a bit... brutal.

The amount of damage it takes to down them, you mean? Because you're saying the opposite. :-)

But ok, that's gonna make everything below Crushing pretty easy, especially in 2 and 3.

I bet Sony is going to try and get an original IP out of Bluepoint after this.

Bluepoint released a game in 06 but hasn't shown much interest in doing anything other than quality port work since then. Port work is reliable, low risk work and they have a great reputation. Wouldn't be surprised to see some Sony studios trying to court some of their team though.

Isn't Bluepoint essentially a port studio exclusively at this point? When was their last internally developed game? Do they even have a creative team?

All good questions. Bluepoint are awesome at what they do but that has very little to do with whether they can make a game from scratch, especially one on par with the classics they have worked with.

Even if they do have creative ambitions currently, no one should expect a great game from them right off the bat.

Look at Ready at Dawn. Great technical chops allowed them to make impressive games using established IPs, but The Order certainly won't be remembered the way they GoW games are.

These arguments for 30fps are physically hurting me.

Yeah, I just don't get it. It does make me wonder if they are much less sensitive to display latency or that they are so use to the "feel" of 30fps because that is all they know. They might be good candidates for "cloud gaming".

This is gonna sound weird to people, but sometimes less is MORE in regards to frame rate.

At 60fps, you will notice more flaws with the animations and the game feels more "gamey" and looks less filmic.

Yes, I am a gamer who prefers 30fps for these types of games.

I understand Call of Duty and Rocket League being 60fps for that arcade-like gameplay, but leave it out of our adventure games.

60fps doesn't look more "realistic" to me… in fact it makes the game look cheesy to me even if the graphics are good.

It could be in part that when I see a game running in 60fps, it reminds me that the graphics are not as good as they could be. They could turn the visuals up higher and give us a better overall presentation and even better physics or destruction at 30fps instead of a watered down 60fps game.

No matter how fast the hardware gets, you can ALWAYS do more with TWICE the amount of render time with 30fps over 60fps. ALWAYS and that's never going to change.

Yes, it does sound weird. It's not about it being "realistic" to me. Latency matters a lot to me. 60fps just feels more responsive. This is one of the reasons that I'm primarily a PC gamer so that I can tweak settings to get the performance that I want. I also play console games on a monitor as well.

Some games such as turn based or PnC games don't really benefit from 60fps. However, action games definitely benefit from it. Uncharted IS an action game. It's not an old school tomb raider adventure game.

Also, we are talking about a remaster. A higher framerate should be expected.
