Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection review thread

Drake is also a somewhat charismatic shit-eating grin of a man, as are his friends. It's like an ultraviolent travel show, presented by three or four people who seem to be having a great time

Ha I liked this.

I think Uncharted review threads are my favourite.

No, my legit reaction to Unharted 1 was "wow, this guy sure is willing to kill a lot of people just to get some treasure."

It's more of a joke that people insist this must be a joke.
In Uncharted 1, you get shot down from an airplane and fall onto an island. At that point, from the very beginning of the game, it's no longer about the treasure. You have no other chance of survival but stealing the boat from the people who wanted to shoot you down dead, and who keep actively trying to kill you on your only way to the escape from there. It's only after you find out that their "treasure" is an actual threat to the world that you keep going to get it, with an obvious aim of preventing a madman from using it. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see how is any of what you do in that game morally wrong?

I don't get the "terrible" shooting mechanics. Do they suck or what? This is one of the few games where hip firing is just as viable as OTS when it comes to shooting strategy. Are these people playing the game like GeoW? Of so, I can understand the complaints.

Yeah basically people don't play Uncharted like Uncharted, they see cover and think "oh this is a cover shooter, I'm supposed to always be behind cover!" And never attempt to go out in the open and use your character's movement to their advantage to take out enemies.

You would think having enemies throw grenades at you and try to flank you would help them figure that part out

Lol you were waiting for scores on this? Why?

I wasn't "waiting on scores", I'd never even considered the scores for this until I saw this thread. They're not the deciding factor, especially not for a collection of remasters, but they would've at least filled me with a little more excitement, had they been even better. This being a review thread is the primary reason why I mentioned them at all.

I think a valid complaint about the shooting is the weak audio of some of the weapons, as well as hit detection and weapon damage points in the original Drake's Fortune. As for the shooting being poor in the others, I think the complaints are mostly misplaced (bare in mind UC3 had a post patch fix). A combination of there being weapon sway, generous recoil, a fair degree of mobility in enemies, less auto aim than is typical of modern shooters, environmental movement, and headshots being far more potent than body shots, sours some on the shooting experience, and makes them think it's worse than it is because they struggle to adjust.

You often hear the term bullet sponge associated with the complaints, but the reality is that this is only really an issue for those who struggle to get headshots. If one has decent aim, and can consistently get headshots, the game is far from being bullet spongey, instead the majority of enemies are one hit kills, others on rare occasion, two to three at most.

Demo was downloading last night so I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

It's on my gamefly q though so *fingers crossed*

I wouldn't call him a "maniac" or "serial killer" but he's definitely some type of crazy thrill seeker who has no problem killing people in his way of treasure. Uncharted 3 tells you this directly.

he murders thousands of people and then has a chuckle fest with his friends

no remorse

thats sociopath behavior

Huh, my reaction was "Shit, there's a ton of pirates and unsavory types that want me dead and willing to kill me. Do what I must to survive and escape." Did people forget that part lol?

This thread is nothing but an embarrassing display of fanboy outrage, as usual with Uncharted fans, except this time you guys already played the games.
