Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection review thread

7 out of 10....

Game reviews have completely gone to hell.

To address some of the criticisms:

"These games have aged badly."

I played the unremastered version of Uncharted 1 last year, and while the graphics weren't up to par with 2 and 3 and the shooting was weaker than 2 and 3, the game was still fantastic. A year later a remaster of it is bad? Worse, a remaster of 2 or 3?

3 of the best action games ever are lovingly remade and some reviewers yawn? ....20 year old games get HD ports and people lay eggs.

"The shooting is terrible" I hear this about the Uncharted games, and you know who I hear it from? People who are terrible at TPS games. Period. When probed it always comes down to "bullet sponges" and being "unfair." I never say this (aloud), but: get good. Uncharted shooting is fantastic.

I know, I know, reviews are subjective but man, I'm just so sick of the hipster review culture. Just wait until the first clickbait 2/10 drops...I may actually scream out loud.
Maybe don't get so personally invested in whether a game you like gets reviews lower than you agree with, especially in a medium as subjective as video games.

7/10 isn't even a bad score lmao.

How?

I'm being deadly serious. I literally don't understand. Can someone spell it out for me?

I think its like

Marcus Fenix kills a lot of locusts but thats because they're a hostile alien species bent on destroying humanity

bj blazkowicz kills a lot of people but they're nazis

Nathan Drake kills a lot of dudes because he wants some treasure

I missed out on this entire series being an X360 guy last gen, so I've had this preordered for quite awhile now. Can't wait to play next week. Or whenever someone pries Destiny from my hands.

Would you be saying the same if it was in regards to the game receiving a better review or if it was a game you didn’t care about though?

This is about a game I don't care about. I mean, I like the Uncharted games and all but I'm mainly here to see how Bluepoint did. I'm not buying the Drake Collection.

So to answer your question: yes, of course. In fact, I'd love seeing re-reviews of games that reviewers thought got better with time.

I'm on the fence about buying this since i own all 3, but man this thread is convincing me I should take the leap. Uncharted is one of the few games where the ingame models and the cutscene models look almost exactly alike. That and incredible gameplay and amazing voice acting. ....Yep gonna have to buy it.

da hell..........they are .jpg. Also......are they resized? what the hell!

Haha. Sorry. I'm posting from my phone and literally playing through while I post. Uploaded them to FB, saved them to phone, then to PB. Not ideal, but I'm too busy enjoying the demo to care. ;)

This thread will not end well.

Anyways, I played the demo this morning and didn't thought the game aged badly (at least not U2).still thing the graphics are very good and the 60 FPS change do wonders for the game.

That said it confirmed that i don't need to buy this right now, as the last 2 games are still fresh in my mind and there's other games I want more.

If I can scoop a cheap digital code until the end of the year I might buy it, otherwise see you next year Nathan Drake.

This one is pretty much review-proof for me. I loved all three games in the series the first time around, and I was always buying the collection unless there were serious technical problems with the remaster (which apparently there aren't). If some reviewer doesn't like the gameplay or the shooting mechanics or whatever, that's fine -- opinions and all. I know I like them.

Videogamer:
Drake is also a somewhat charismatic shit-eating grin of a man, as are his friends. It's like an ultraviolent travel show, presented by three or four people who seem to be having a great time. It's just a shame the player has to slog through so much nonsense to join them.

Whaaaaaaaaat?

charm and charisma are common in sociopaths, hes a criminal whos convinced his group of friends to commit mass murder, he should be hung for his crimes. until then, 7 out of 10 will do

Why does this always limp back into UC threads?

one day we'll get a naughty dog review thread that isn't rife with reviewer discrediting and people complaining about opinions

one day

These are actually the most worthless comments you'll find in any review thread.

People discussing reviews in a review thread, CAN'T HAVE THAT! These reviews are truly the infallible words of the divine, who are we mere mortals to question?

It's definitely a good-looking series and has some amazing set pieces. Just brace yourself for some tps and platforming mechanics that were never that great to begin with, even when originally released. The music's great though.

Pirates, war criminals, and evil secret society people who shoot at you first are the nicest people around, didn't you know?

Museum guards are nice people.

The guys Nathan kills are good people now ?

They're standing in the way of him getting rich. So yes, to him they are indeed bad people. Is the sentence for standing in the way of someone getting treasure death? PS. I don't give a shit that Nate kills people. It makes the game more interesting. My problem is with the god awful platforming and jumping.

In the original Uncharted at the start of the game he's just out in the middle of the sea diving for treasure without bothering anyone, and then pirates start swarming his boat trying to kill him and Elena.

valid criticism is appreciated though often it comes down to WHAT AN IDIOT or DOESNT HE/SHE GET IT and variations on those two things. It's especially pronounced in certain threads where there is already a large fanbase attached to either the developer or the franchise being reviewed.

If pointing that out means there's less riff raff to sift through then so be it.

It belongs in a museum!

Remember people losing their minds over Uncharted 3 getting less than perfect scores? Good times.

Dont repeat that folks. Nothing in that Videogamer review was wrong either.

This nonsense about killing everyone is just idiotic. I cant believe this is an issue?

Yeah, who knew a video game about running and gunning isn't about killing some other person. Might as well complain about every other video game that has you shooting at other human beings. People sometimes complain just for the sake of complaining.

Some screens I'm taking as we speak from the demo.

This game looks like shit. Doesn't hold up well at all.
I don't agree, obviously it's a last gen game but it looks great considering, some rough spots here and there but the view from the hotel still holds up wonderfully, they did a great job with this remaster.

Pretty sure it started off as a stupid joke, and now people act as if it's a legitimate point.

No, my legit reaction to Unharted 1 was "wow, this guy sure is willing to kill a lot of people just to get some treasure."

It's more of a joke that people insist this must be a joke.

i found this line is unnecessary in the review

Note: if you're just here for an appraisal of the remaster, feel free to make yourself feel better and add two points to the score.

Loving the part about Drake and Co being mass murderers. These are games, and we all know games are built on heroes taking down enemies. Sure, Drake could be pumping sleeping rounds into people, but what's the fun in that?

Difference between Uncharted 3 review thread and this one is that people have actually had 4-8 years to play these games in question and form strong, informed opinions on them.

U3 review thread was "There's no way this can possibly be not as good as Uncharted 2!", before people even knew it was a separate team.
