"Hell... is just a word"

your pick?

SOCIETY

Please, just watch it without spoilers. Yes, it looks like a 90s teen show. It does not end that way. You will love it, I promise.

DEMONS

The best zombie movie that most people have not seen. You will be amazed by the final battle.

Goddamn, I can't get this from Netflix? Lame. I'll keep my eyes peeled for it.

How am I supposed to know if a movie is under-appreciated? Re-Animator is one of my favorites, but I don't know if it qualifies.

Society isn't on Netflix. Adding Demons.

The Burning - yeah, it's a cheap and cheesy slasher movie with some terrible acting and chock full of horror movie clichés, but goddamn, Tom Savini's special effects are AWESOME and well worth watching for;

The van scene is all I'll say.

this director is sick. I watched Mirrors, it was great but I'm too weak minded for his other stuff.

As for Del Toro, I think that CRONOS is pretty underrated.

His remake of THE HILLS HAVE EYES is one of the 10 best horror films of the last 10 years.

Reminded me of the village chapter from RE4. Atmospheric rural horror with "zombies"

TheResurrected.jpg

One of my favorite HP Lovecraft adaptations (The Case of Charles Dexter Ward)

The guy who wrote that is a jerk-off who beats his dick raw to Fangoria. Seriously, that ending contradicts everything that happened in the movie and it was stupid.

If you haven´t seen it you should, there are no monsters, no gore or anything like that in the film, its a psychological horror movie and one of the best Í´ve seen

DAGON is owed more credit for RE4, I think.

Surprised to see a Jean Rollin recommendation, though. My favorite of his is probably FASCINATION.

Say what you will about the plot decision, the film is masterfully directed. FWIW, I can see why people don't like the end, but I don't really have a problem with it. It may be cheating, but it works for me.

Also, lay off the ad hominem. Horror directors tend to be nice people.

DAGON. inspiration for Resident Evil 4. kind of mediocre acting and production values, but the film gets so much right.

OP nailed it. That would have been my pick. :) ^^ @teruterubozu^^ Another awesome pick. The dream sequences always creeped me out. I actually had that same dream, no joke. I woke up nervous as hell. :lol

Pandorum is basically Dead Space: the movie. Underrated because no one has seen it.

not even close to Dead Space as a horror. It's a fun thriller.

I am not one to poop on other people's likes, but I am shocked that you're serious. Unless I'm thinking of something else, isn't the Gate a horrible 80's piece of camp crap? I mean, I don't remember if the actual movie was even serious or not.

edit: I'll vote Prince of Darkness for underappreciated, although its got some cheese. Session 9 is a slow burner, but I enjoyed it.

Some of the best horror is camp "crap"

If you're talking about Stephen Dorff The GATE, you are wrong...deadly wrong.

I met him and Jeffrey Combs at a performance of NEVERMORE. Both were very nice. Got them to sign the Mondo poster for the event. Hangs above my fireplace.

I wrote SG a letter inviting him to my wedding last year. :lol He declined, but he wrote me a nice note and sent me an autographed Re-Animator movie poster that I have hanging up in my rec area.

THE GATE is a wonderful children's horror flick. Scared the shit out of me on more than one sleepover. Made a great double feature with Wes Craven's underrated DEADLY FRIEND, which all of GAF should see if they like movies about nerds with cool robots and hot chick friends.

Also, I am in full support of PRINCE OF DARKNESS and SESSION 9.

That's a sweet wedding gift.

This is what I am talking about when I say that genre people tend to be nice.

Ok, IMDB'd it, and we're talking about the same movie.

Seriously, not being dismissive, but fill me in. I saw this at the theater in 1987, so I was 14. Not the most critical age, but I remember it being laughable.

With camp, your mileage may vary. I don't knock anyone for enjoying schock, I just don't remeber the Gate being ... well, memorable, and never heard anyone praise it. Unless its a so good its bad kind of thing.

edit: hmm, thanks Dook

Prince of Darkness still gives me chills. That soundtrack was amazing and a small fun fact, but DJ Shadow used a lot of samples from Prince of Darkness for Entroducing...

Also I'd have to throw The Dead Next Door and City of the Living Dead in the list as well...Fulci gets too much credit just for Zombi 2 that CLD get's overlooked.

Deadly Friend is a great freaking movie. My brother and I would triple feature that with Maximum Overdrive and Pumpkin Head when we had cousins spend the night.

It's not even a so bad it's good thing. It's just a good scary flick for the younger crowd and a tense and cool look back for the older crowd. I saw it awhile back on a triple feature bill with Hackerz and Prince of Darkness. I forget what the theme was, but twas an excellent night.

Is it true that it's coming to Blu-Ray?

Stills scares me shitless. Everyone I know doesn't like it.

it's hard to call it underappreciated because it was a huge box office success.

Hells yes, any movie that lets me use my imagination to fill in the blanks.

Original Wicker Man is underappreciated unless you're watching Hot Fuzz. Then for two hours it's very appreciated.

edit: Blair Witch still has a huge backlash, so I think its a fair choice.

I agree on all your other choices, so I suppose I'll have to revisit it.
