Underrated Games

pokemon-oras.jpg
I know this isn't the popular thing to say but I love Ruby and Sapphire.

This time I'll focus more on recent games, as i feel like I was talking too much about old games in my previous posts:

Crimson Dragon: The spiritual succesor of the Panzer Dragoon games, this game was heavily criticized for being too hard, having floaty controls and replaying missions many times, basically things that are expected of an On-Rails Shooter, this is a must play if you're a fan of Panzer Dragoon, one of the few games still completely exclusive to the Xbox One, not even playable in PC.

Shadow Warrior 2: The best FPS no one talks about, the randomly generated nature of this game makes each playthrough a new experience, especially if you play it co-op with friends, looting and shooting with a touch of old-school FPS.

Exist Archive: The spiritual succesor of the Valkyrie Profile RPGs by tri-Ace, aside from not having the top notch story telling of the VP games this is pretty much a "what VP3 would have been" at least in terms of gameplay.

Rebel Galaxy: I recently got to play this game when it was made available for free on the Epic Store and man was I missing out, this is Wing Commander: Privateer meets Assassins Creed IV Black Flag, did you like the naval battles of Black Flag? well now enjoy that but in space.

Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology: Somehow this game got ditched for a consecutive generation, this is a remake of a DS JRPG, it has one of the best stories in any videogame, no seriously I'm not joking, did you like the time travelling aspects of Chrono Trigger? well you're in for treat with this one.

Bladestorm Nightmare: Similar case as above this game got ditched a second time, this is a remake and sequel at the sametime of the original Bladestorm, did you ever wonder what a more strategic Dynasty Warriors would look like? well this is it, no more OP single units beating thousands, this is army vs army but played like a Dynasty Warriors game.

I'll just say Cave Story
Way too underrated and unknown, despite being some of the first indies of the 21st century
A damn good game, and the Switch port is even better (2 player ftw)

Just a random gem of mine that is crossing my mind right now: The walking dead survival instinct
I played the hell out of it on Wii U, not even remotely bad as people say, imho
Certainly not a technical miracle ( zombies ai is terrible, for one, not that zombies are this intelligent in the series, but still) but its graphics holds Well, and the gameplay is very funny, murdering zombies behind their backs, or with a perfect headshot is addictive

Must have for a fan of either Daryl alone or the whole series, and is also one of the rarest games around for Wii u iirc

Also, I always wondered if someone ever played the Largo Winch game on Gamecube, Empire Under Threat
It's based on a popular french comic, and turned out to be one of the best pseudo - graphics adventure game I ever played
Mixes puzzles, point and click, turn based fights etc. all in one

Plot twists and atmosphere are awesome, completed that game multiple times over the course of the years

I Also found Blake Stone to be extremely underrated, It paid the release so close to Doom iirc
Full of secrets, collectibles, atmosphere, music, enemies and weapons are outstanding
Always hope for a comeback in some form, It deserves more love

An awesome Neo Geo game that people dismiss. AMong the first batch of NG games that came out. Stupidly hard, but if you watch speedruns it's actually not hard if you know the tricks and the best character to use.

In the arcade I think I got to level 3 or 4 and called it quits. Probably spent a good $10-20 on the machine back then.

Best music ever. Cut scenes with the bearded guy are awesomely bad.

Soul-Sacrifice

Really interesting take on Monster Hunter formula, especially how the weapons worked in this game and I also like back story for some of the bosses.

One of my favourite games from last gen, and one of the few games that are actually funny. Whole game is bananas:

I'll never not understand the hate Code Veronica gets, granted i'm only familier with the enhanced CVX version but i don't think there's anything major change besides the added Wesker scenes.
Back on topic i think it's the most challenging of the tank style games and it has one of the most disturbing monsters ever IMO:

Yeah, Code Veronica never got as much love as the others but it was a great game. I'm hoping they remake it someday like RE2

Combat has a really nice flow. Love the character and boss designs.

Uh game was far more enjoyable than Control which is a goty contender.

Visuals could use some polish, but gameplay is very fun, and has lots of combos

very intriguing characters. Great acting.

Good game. Not a lot of people talk about this Konami gem.

Not as good as Contra 3 or Axelay, but still good. I remember it taking me longer to beat too, so a brownie point for value. Contra an Axelay can be beat in 20 minutes.

Biggest multiplayer and FPS innovations this generation. Long live BT.

K0yV6AW.jpg

Respawn released the most innovative FPS this generation.

Then did it again for battle royal with Apex.

Now they're about to do it again for third person action/adventure with Jedi Fallen Order.

Name a team more versatile than these guys?!

Shout out to Respawn man...

I'll definitely look back and see this as the hidden gem this gen. The campaign was ace.

- Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. The reception that game got was horrible. But it was a fun 3rd person shooter with lovely environments and two hilarious lead characters.

- FIFA 16. Not only is it the most fluid and realistic FIFA ever, it is the best football game ever, period. Yes, even better than the old school PES4/5/6.
16 had realistic error, quick dribbling, fluid animations and collisions... all with the updated technology to it had basically everything.

- Virignia. Very uniquely cinematic game that doesn' get talked about enough.

- X-Files Resist & Serve. An X Files game in the mold of OG Resident Evil, with fixed camera angles? Thank you very much.

Prey (2017), I know people were disappointed they didn't get cyberpunk bounty hunter sequel to the original Prey but I still really enjoyed my time with this one. Brilliant level design, gameplay, atmosphere and soundtrack and a really cool story with some genuine love and care put into several lore details and fleshed out characters, like Danielle Sho, despite the somewhat disappointing ending, but at least it's a setup to a sequel so hopefully we'll see it some day. The Typhon are really interesting and Mooncrash adds plenty of replayability.

Liberation for the Amiga CD32
Another game I feel is vastly underated and never talked about. It allowed a lot of freedom to do what you pleased, a brilliant game for it's time.

God-Awful graphics, apart from maybe the cutscenes, wasn't exactly a game that show-cased what the CD32 could do....

Brave Story: New Traveler (Game Republic, 2007). A Dragon Quest clone for PSP with outstanding production values.

Crush (Zoe Mode, 2007). Probably the first 3D-2D perspective puzzle of all time. The wonderful Super Paper Mario came out one month before this game, but it was an RPG-platformer game.

2017 GOTY and one of the best games of the decade.

Absolutely, really think Code Veronica needs the remake treatment.....Lengthy campaign, great atmosphere, characters......It would be great.

I think these two games deserve a chance at a remake ......
