Unexpected funny moment in video games

Was that a bug?
No, that's the great thing about that game. The villain is a little campy. He acts like that through pretty much the entire game. He knows he has the ultimate power, so he vamps around the scene quite a bit. I thought it worked well in the game.

Nobody mentioned Ring King yet?

You're in the middle of mildly homoerotic boxing, then *ding*! end of Round 1.

Just this week I found a cart of Ring King and I picked it up immediately just for that scene. It was worth it.. laugh out loud funny even though I knew it was coming. What on earth were the developers intending?

I've never played the Gears of War games, but I found that scene a bit touching. You guys don't have a heart!
I suppose you could chalk it up to the fact that majority of those who play that game are too dudebro-ish to appreciate the little things in that scene hahah. I for one like the particular music that's played during it, and the revelation was put together pretty well imho, even if the whole thing seemed a little out of place in between all that gun-firing and chainsawing. By itself though it was poignant, if not a little morbid. Didn't tug any heartstrings for me but I did ask, what the fuck did they do to her?! lol

I've had numerous hilarious things happen while playing the Halo series. Especially in Halo 3/Reach because of their physics engines that sometimes results in some hilarious mishaps.

I have never played any Gears of War, went to Youtube and only found a rather sad scene with Maria. Is this the one you guys are referring to?
Yeah, they want to show how totally cool they are by ignoring a display of strong emotions by somebody else. It's a common behaviour amongst teens to hide their insecurity.

Wait, how is this supposed to be funny? It seemed to be done ok, I expected something super cheesy or melodramatic. Is it funny in the context of the game? I've never played it.
Yeah, I don't understand. I kept waiting for the funny, crazy overacting, but I never saw it. It wasn't "oscar worthy" but it wasn't bad either.

I haven't played the games outside of a couple multiplayer matches in the first one. I was also disappointed, because I've heard that scene hyped up as hilarious before. Eh. I guess maybe it's got something to do with the contrast of "Chainsaw-gun aliens in the face! Hell yeah!" to that scene. I don't really get it though.

MARIAAAAAAAAAA!!! was the most cringeworthy moment in video games I have ever experienced.

Trying to watch that with my girlfriend was....awkward.

The mariaaaaaameme doesn't come from the pay off scene but the fact that they have Dom cry "mariaaaaaa!" out loud through the coarse of the game, watching a tiny bit on youtube and playing through the whole thing are completely different.

Heh. Could you please find me the scene where Dom screams MARIAAAAA! to the sky? Everyone always seems to hate this scene the most, but I've yet to see anyone link it and I just played the entire game last week and I don't remember this scene anywhere.

Like I said above, please find me a clip of him screaming Maria. Because he mentioned it only a few times, twice during the beginning level, where he asked Anya if she found anything and at the end where they lost the lead she had. He tells marcus to find her if he dies before going underground. He asks the stranded they find underground. Then he discusses with marcus whether they should immediately attack the locust or search for maria first. Then they find her. He vows to kill the locust for her. Then he is staring at her photo at the end. In the scope of an 8-10 hour game, she is brought up a total of 10 times, all in ways that last less then 15 seconds, with the exception of the scene with her. I didn't think it was overdone. Often enough to know that he was obsessing over it, but not so much that it hounded the game down, and he mentioned it in reasonable circumstances.

Yeah, people keep linking to the death scene where he just kind of whimpers her name, no MARRRIAAAAAAAA!!!! scream like I'm expecting, lol. That death scene is just disturbing considering it's her tortured husk of a body. I mean I guess the lines are kind of awkward, but I've seen way waaay worse attempts at emotion. It's actually handled pretty ok vs what I expected.

Yea she was well beyond saving that when Dom turned to Marcus and ask hopelessly what to do, I echoed the sane sentiment in my mind. Shit is so fucked up :/

I seriously think subconciously alter their memory of the game. They designate Gears as a dudebro game and a dudebro game cannot possibly do emotional scenes correctly, so the maria scene was a mass of hysteria for them in retrospect. I can't imagine that many people actually laughed at the scene because there wasn't anything funny about it. No overacting, no narmy screams, etc. It's just a guy breaking down after seeing his one hope for happiness shatter. I'm not even saying that the scene is really well done or anything, but why do people think in such extremes? Call it average, even below average, but the guy above is trying to claim that it's the most cringeworthy scene he has ever seen in a videogame? That really does nothing but display his own ignorance given how many legitimately horrendous badly acted scenes there really are in games. Like these 'hilarious' antics. Or this horrific death scene. Or this.....this.

So guys, you wanna talk about how cringeworthy that scene is in gears 2 again?

In L.A. Noire, there's something you tell a cabbie that "Just goes and ruins his day", or something like that. Well, my game decided to torture him a bit more--when he drove away, he was immediately hit by a car. Hard to explain in text...but the timing of it all and the fact that it wasn't supposed to happen was pretty funny.
