MS should just nuke the Xbone. They can't be making any cash, and I doubt the Xbone business model has a contingency plan for eaking out profit as a middling second or third place finisher. Gaming console market is never going to be bigger than 100mm units over any hardware's lifetime. Significant money but not for MS. They should just walk away and leave this one to the Japanese. They don't have the talent or the will to win.

I don't think super domination is good for our industry right now. Microsoft is doing a lot of good things with Xbox and want them to be successful as the PS4.
People say that, but is there any real reason to think a generation is hurt by dominance? Last generation was the only close one really. It wasn't notably better to me, in fact, it was the worst.

Destiny selling a lot more on Xbox One.
Despite the double digit millions Sony invested in the title.

Just throwing that stat out there for fun.
Console hardware sales don't always tell the full story for the industry as a whole.

Just talking about US for now
Guess you didn't get the memo from activision stating that destiny sold the most on PS4.

Knew it was 2:1. I expect the gap to really widen come Christmas.

I'm calling 2.5:1 by March 2015 with 3:1 (maybe even 3.5:1) by this time next year.
Yup, MS will certainly see a bump in Nov/Dec, but Sony's going to see a holiday bump as well. It may be close for 4-8 weeks, but then you get into February and The Order/Bloodborne hit, Persona 5 coming in the summer, and more information/hype builds for Uncharted 4 and whatever else they have coming, it's going to be hard for MS to sustain their momentum. Halo 5 needs to come soon for them

Last generation brought a ton of innovation for online gaming. It also forced Sony get their shit together for PSN. Sony's network is still not the best. I think for consumers, we need companies fighting for our dollars.

Are you talking about the NPD from last month? Or can you shed some light on where you are getting your facts.

GTA5 might not be a wildcard. There doesn't look like there will be a bundle in the U.S.
So Sony in America don't really have anything to counter.....unless they announce something.
I agree. There's also a little game called
Advanced Warfare that has a bundle and has been the highest selling console SKU on Amazon since the price drop.

I don't really care for sales but it is surprising that Sony still are going so strong considering how disappointing and miserable the console has been in 2014 from a first party perspective IMO. Good for them either way. Since 2015 is so epic with loads of releases I expect the PS4 to continue selling well.

Oh you...

John, you post in the NPDs every month and keep a close eye on NPDs, so why did you get this wrong so badly? Plus beside all that, US Destiny numbers vs WW console shipment numbers?
I didn't get anything wrong :).

I choose my words carefully for a reason, you're entitled to read it any way you'd like!

I didn't say anything about Play, and I didn't say anything about Bundles because those copies are purchased by the publisher and not the consumer. ::shrug::

I like playing with people's perspective, and I was trying to help avoiding this thread turning into yet another console bashing without some additional conversation topic points so there ya go, have fun

It's "selling" more because the free copies are counted.

Wait so you think that if they were somehow selling as well or better than the PS4, MS would have done half... nah, any of their 180's and have been aggressive as they have been? MS have a chance of selling better because of Sony's dominance as they are hungering for what Sony has right now.

All consoles selling well provides no incentive to mix it up. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I don't think most people really care about first parties. Maybe they like Halo and Uncharted, maybe they know they're made by the people that make the console, but for the most part, I don't think people distinguish between first and third party releases in any meaningful way.

I do agree it's been shit though.

And the gap will keep growing. 2015 is when Sony unleashes the games, and from there on I expect mantained support up until the release of the PS5. At least if past generations are anything to go by.

Online only shooter selling more on the brand that has built its rep on online networks and arguably birthed the online shooter market on consoles.

Well I never.

Its like saying Metal gear or FF sells better on Playstation.

Yeah... I got mine at launch and still don't think it's worth buying right now. Looking at the list of exclusive games coming out in the next 3 months is just sad. It's even worse that they increased the price in Canada to $449. Really think it's way too much money now.

EU (PEGI rating in the corner)
It's easy to miss as the giant german USK sticker is missing.

Ars admitting that "we were extremely generous to the xbox one".

I never thought id see the day.
I think the idea behind the article was that you are as conservative as possible for the PS4 and as generous as possible for the Xbox One and then still show that there is a sizable difference.

No its not.
Destiny PS4 > Xbox One when you include bundles. Yes, I'm talking US only.

You do realize the Xbox One is still selling better than the 360 was at this time right?

MS is doing alot of things right atm.

Remember the ps3? Ppl said it was dead the first 3 years also.

Or, more plausibly, they're still just paying attention to price.
Except for the fact that the Xbox One has consistently been the same price as or cheaper than the PS4 through price cuts and bundles for the last six months or longer.

People say that, but is there any real reason to think a generation is hurt by dominance? Last generation was the only close one really. It wasn't notably better to me, in fact, it was the worst.
But, if you are talking about console sales, the last generation was not remotely close.

Perhaps, but they have something that trumps both of those every day of the week.
