Upgrade PC or snag a PS4?

I can't get extremely technical but I'd say go with the PS4. With the way games are being developed and unoptimizied on PC, a plug and play temp system that's cheaper right now is the way to go. You can always buy the PC parts later. If you don't mind waiting on playing games, then stick with the PC. If you want to get in the now and play games without the hassle of switching out parts and making sure your set up is compatible, go with the PS4. Oh yeah, and of course exclusives.

Both. Probably PC now, and PS4 later when the great exclusives start to drop...

Unless your really interested in Killzone, Infamous, DriveClub, or LittleBigPlanet why purchase a PS4 now?

Right now I say grab a PS4. A few next gen games have been running not-so-great on PC, and need a bit more hardware than what's affordable right now.

Thanks for the comments! The big problem for me is that my PC won't be able to run jack shit as far as next gen games go with my current setup, leaving it only capable of playing less demanding indie games. If I go PS4, by the time I have cash to upgrade I'll need a new GPU, CPU and probably mobo, so it would make sense to just do a new build basically while keeping just some parts from my current system.

You will want to upgrade everything anyway so unless there are PC titles you really want to play now you might as well wait for the hardware to be more powerful at the same price.

Only thing in my eyes that worth playing on PS4 is Bloodborne. I would buy a PS4 in 2 years, not now or 2015. I would upgrade the PC 2015 and in the mean time spend the money on steam sales.

That only makes sense if he is choosing between an X1 and PS4.

He said between PC and PS4.

Anyway, I'd say go PS4 too if you plan to get a GPU in the future when new silicon hits.

I'm at least waiting for the 800 series of cards. My 660Ti and i7 setup is plenty still...so I'm waiting a while for a PC upgrade.

After the in-engine footage from Uncharted 4 (almost) nobody believes PCs are superior anymore. :p

Honestly, get neither. There's nothing worth upgrading to atm on the PC side until maybe, 2015 (?) And the most interesting games (in my opinion.) are coming out in 2k15 on the PS4. But if you really want one of the two at the moment, i'd go for the PS4.

Joke post?

The Order is flat out the best looking title I've seen, in general that's not true though and will become more evident as more next-gen only multiplatform games begin to launch. Already games like Watch Dogs/Assassin's Creed look considerably better on the PC. And of course PC exclusives.

Star Citizen is pretty crazy and Crysis 3 still unsurpassed in terms of general texture quality/lighting.

Hmmm, this is a tough choice! I really don't have the cash to upgrade both my CPU... If the i5 2500K really is fine for many games in the foreseeable future then I might just snag a maxwell card and wait another year from then for a PS4.

Is your rig currently unable to play games at your bare-minimum standards? If not, don't upgrade yet and wait until the GTX 800 series comes out.

Are you planning to play literally any of the 2014 releases? If not, don't get a PS4 until the games you're interested in come out.

Well. I dont think the PS4 is worth spending 400$+ on it atm. But that would be a different story in 2015.. If you think in 2015 you will have 400$ to spend, well i think it would be a better investment, ATM, for a pc upgrade if you really need it.

I nearly bought one after seeing The Order and the Bloodborne announcment...but when they announce the release date...i change my plan.

The 800 series won't be launching until late this year, early 2015.

Hold off on the PS4. Everything that you want to play on it is either on PC or coming a year or so down the line. Upgrade for now and and buy in a year or so when you can probably get decent bundle or even find a sale.

Grab a PS4 next year when there are games worth playing. The games that are multi-plat will run better and be significantly cheaper on PC. I'd stick it out for a bit.

That may be true, but if you're in to MP, the community is usually (depending the game) is stronger on consoles.

PS4 now since the specs won't change. PC later when DDR4 and Nvidia 800 series are out. Although as someone who has a gaming PC and a PS4, my PS4 could sit unplugged until Spring 2015 and I don't feel like I'd be missing anything.

I shouldn't do this but ummm I don't think the PC really has exclusives anymore bro

Yes it fucking well does!

Star Citizen,
Elite Dangerous,
Civ Beyond Earth
are all PC only and not already out and those are just big budget titles off the top of my head.
If you want to include lower budget and games that are already out, you are going to face a very long list.

None of those are cinematic shooters though.
I love all three types of games

I just made this decision and went for the PS4. It took me quite a bit longer than it should have, but I eventually realized that spending $500 on a videocard alone isn't really something I should be doing while trying to pay for college on my own. Picking up a PS4 for the next three years until I have a job after graduation seemed the way to go, as much as it kills me to not be able to screw around with the next Rift dev kit.

I'll be back, PC gaming. Some day.

Also Bloodborne, Uncharted 4 and Destiny.

Did you preorder the Destiny bundle? If I didn't already have a PS4 that would be the one I'd be getting.

Do you want to constantly pay $60 for games, or, say, two dollars and fifty cents during sales?

Oh please. As if console games aren't deeply discounted after release as well.

Everything that you want to play on it is either on PC or coming a year or so down the line.

I didn't see the OP actually list any games they like. . .so now sure how you can say this.

As to the OP, there is something to be said by a fixed platform (PS4) versus the PC. If a game isn't optimized well, then all the bells and whistles aren't going to make for a good experience. Contrast with a console where if it works for your friend, it will work for you.

I'd upgrade your pc now and pick up a ps4 once there is a backlog of first party exclusives to play. Really though you can't go wrong either way.

this post can't be real

just need coldfoot in here now so the usual circle of goalpost moving can start

pricing between pc and console games isn't even close, neither are the sales

there's something to be said for buying whatever platform whatever game you really want is on, but people in this thread are suggesting OP do it based on some 30second teaser of a 2015 game and other games that aren't even out yet.
You can ask the people who upgraded their gpu months in advance just for X-rebirth how smart that is.

Buying anything based on hype and vertical slices/teasers/heavy marketing is a recipe for buyer's remorse.
I would know as I bought a ps3 for killzone 2 and final fantasy 13 (ugh) , I was lucky my purchase was eventually (years later) redeemed by dragon's dogma and bayonetta coming out. If only I had bought it when good shit was actually out, I'd have saved myself 200 euros.
