Upgrade PC or snag a PS4?

Personally, "snagging" sounds much cooler than "upgrading".

I'm doing neither till this fall. Will probably pick up a PS4 first.

All PC gamers that were console gamers will move back to consoles

It's only because last generation went on for far too long PC started to creep ahead of them in the graphics front

New generation = PC starts getting left behind again for a few years

PC was never left behind. The consoles are a low baseline now. I've got cheapo 270x here that runs everything at 1080p/60.

What is your historical basis for this? Crysis came out right as last gen started and completely eclipsed anything they did.

I personally think the Order is the most impressive game I've seen on a visual level, but is probably has a massive budget far eclipsing any PC exclusives outside of Star Citizen. The big multiplatform games like the Division will look considerably better on PC, as does every other next-gen port already released.

Starcraft most likely had a massive budget and is a PC exclusive. Same goes for WoW...

i mean, i have a mariana trench low opinion of the average console jockey, but even i'm impressed by how they're not only complacent to have the wool pulled over their eyes while their gracious master tickles their wallets, they're positively begging for it.

BDSM for the modern era.

Not sure if this is satire or not.

Either way, it's wrong.

A 750Ti is already on par with the consoles and that's a $150 card that doesn't even need a power connector.

So basically I'm at the point where in order to upgrade my PC to keep up with next gen stuff I'd need to spend roughly the same amount as a PS4 (upgrade my 1GB 6950 to a 290 or high end maxwell card when that launches) since the hardware requirements for a smooth experience at high settings have really ramped up recently. I assume I still will have at least 1.5 years or so with my i5 2500K overclocked. However, the PS4 is looking really enticing after E3 due to the exclusives and the fact that pretty much every game I was planning on picking up on PC is being released there as well. I'm not a stickler for 60 fps and almost every PS4 title seems to launch at 1080p, which is the same resolution I game on my PC at. Are the graphical differences between PC and PS4 that huge during the beginning of this console cycle that I should go ahead and dump money into my rig? Towards the end of the last generation the gap was obviously huge between PC and console, but for the next couple years I'm not sure how wide it really is.
Just get a PS4 then. If you don't care about 60fps or downsampling or running 1080p+ then it's not worth upgrading your PC, especially with the PS4 exclusives coming within the next year.

Show me on the doll where the mean console touched you.

A game with a stuttering bug that should get fixed with the first patch.
YOU MEAN IT LACKED

Pretty much, something like Uncharted 4 runs in-game, in realtime at 1080p60 so it's just a matter of time until more devs get to grips for similar superior graphics.

I will get a PS4 to play Bloodborn and Witcher 3

These are the two major games i want and both on PS4, so makes sense to get one and play both there

Also will get me a WiiU for Zelda

I'd say get a PS4 and wait until next year to upgrade your video card.

As the gen goes on, the discrepancies between the PS4 and PC versions of multiplatform games will grow larger, so right now when the PS4 multiplats can still remotely hold a candle to the PC counterparts, it's better to get get the PS4 now and then upgrade the PC next year.

By next year, the PS4 will start getting more exclusives and you can get all the multiplatform titles on PC.

That's baseless speculation considering Blizzard vowed to never release the development costs.

It was in development for quite a bit of time and blizzard is one of the premier devs in which the coders are most likely handsomely paid. Dont have the facts but do have the logic.

Decades of pc gaming and the advice is always the same: 'You should wait for the next generation of graphics cards/cpus/motherboards, etc..' The perfect gaming pc is perpetually 6 months out. :D

Just wait. Start working down your backlog. The really exciting PC tech isn't out yet and neither are the really exciting PS4 exclusives. Although I will say that Gsync helps with a lot of the stutter and other crap I've had to put up with in questionable PC ports. You might want to invest in the AMD equivalent if you decide to stay on the red team.

I'd go with a PS4. You'll be able to play all the third parties that you would on the PC, and the Sony exclusives, which are going to hit in mass in 2015.

The DELUSION is a joke.

These is some truth though, since developers target mid range PCs, not the 2000$ ones

When all PC are as powerfull as PS4, then sure would be funny to even suggest that PC cant do Uncharted 4, there is no reason why not if you have the top hardware (600-800$ GPU range in 2000$ PC for example)

Hey OP, what do you think to these comments? Seems pretty back and forth, with reasonable arguments for both approaches.

Decided what you're going to do yet?

These is some truth though
No, there isn't.

That's irrelevant. You don't even need something anywhere near to the high end to match a PS4 for hardware capabilities.

Why are you insisting with this 2000$ price tag? My 1000$ PC has a GTX 770, which would run circles around a PS4 GPU, as it's literally more than twice as powerful.

Can we expect more shit nuggets to come out of your butt hole?

That's why the actual stronger console, PS4, runs games like battlefield 4, watch dogs and witcher 3 at 900p with less effect, whilst a pc with a mid-range vga such as a r9 280x can run them on 1080p and with more effects, even without the optimization that mantle and directx 12 are gonna bring to the pc market.

So where are all the exclusive PC games making full use of this GPU power?

They sure aren't in the PC screensots thread. That's what gets me. All of this power, but few if any developers are sticking their necks out to create games that fully utilize it unless you're going to foot the bill via kickstarter.

I'd upgrade the PC for now, got my PC about a year and a half ago and finally got a PS4 this week but in all honesty there's not a lot to play on PS4 right now while PC has an amazing selection of games both new and old

If you're planning on eventually purchasing the Oculus Rift, upgrade your PC :-)

That's only advice, that's all that is...

I tend to upgrade my PC about half-way through generations. I start the gen console exclusive, then upgrade about half way through and switch mostly to PC until the next gen. Seems to work :)

So where are all the exclusive PC games making full use of this GPU power?
Virtually every single thing I play makes "full use" of the hardware.
Why is that so hard to understand for you people?

Just because my GPU isn't the minimum requirement t run something (which I'm very glad for, by the way) that doesn't imply there aren't plenty of ways I can put the exceeding power to full use. Increased framerate, increased resolution, downsampling, better physics.
I never "struggle" to find appealing ways to make good use of the surplus of computational power, and they aren't trivial to me, they DO make the experience better.
