US 80 gig PS3 backwards compatability

The Euro guys could probably answer this for you, I'm guessing the BC will be the same between the US 80 and the PAL 60.

edit: beaten...

You should check anyways. Some games - like Bully - were released under a different name.

But games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Suikoden III, and Xenogears weren't.

I can't even afford the 20 gig model. :lol

I have quite a few games that weren't released in Europe. Can't check them!

Well if you really want this $600 over 15 years I suggest you sell sperm and blood like the rest of us.

I live in the middle of nowhere. There is no place to do that.

Xenogears and Final Fantasy Tactics don't work on the new PS3's? Damnit, I'll never give up on those two games. >.<

He means weren't released under a different title...

Meh, the EE-GS chip is so cheap. I'm kinda surprised they yanked it off the main board...

edit: Some games for PS2, like FFX, X-2, and XII, have multiple listings. Some are listed to work fine, others with noticable issues. Why? There's a bunch of the same game with different SLUS numbers or whatever.

Uh, check the US site for PS1 games. All regions and models use software emulation for PS1 games.

I know. I was just using that as a (bad) example. I suddenly couldn't think of any other PS2 games that weren't released in Europe.

But the 32MB of RDRam and the bilion additional traces on the motherboard aren't.

EEGS chip was replaced by GS, so obviously chip savings itself are marginal, the stuff that was actually removed was far more expensive then either chip though.

If this is related to the European BC site, it's pretty simple: Some games have different releases for different regions, while some have a single release with multiregion localization on the disk. Then there's the single release with only english localization.
So, some games are listed multiple times, and have different compatibility levels.

I'm so confused right now.

Me, too. I saw one getting unpacked in a store, so if people are going to be able to get one soon, since they'll be on sale before long, we will find out how they handle BC.

Not only that. Sounds weird, but when a technology gets really old it actually gets more expensive rather than cheaper.

Try mass producing an ENIAC today. Will cost you more than mass producing a Core 2 Duo.

Games are sometimes changed as well. There are numerous versions of Ocarina of Time on N64, for example. You'd never know the difference just playing through it, but there are small bug fixes and things like that.

I'm a european, and I think that Sony is doing a real good job with BC. :)

When I played my copy of SVR2006, I saw that it should have noticeable issues according to the list, but I didn't come across one when playing the game. :-)
Maybe their just slow updating the list, compared to how soon they fix the compability, but either way, the software BC exceeded my wildest expectation, and so far it hasn't brought me any trouble. :)

BC will most likely be better in US, since the localization in Europe probably changes alot more versions of the same game.

Same. I've got one (obscure) game that doesn't run, and Soul Calibur 3 runs half speed. Everything else works great, even some titles that aren't on the current (1.80) BC FAQ like Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance.
