US Console Battlefield Bad Company 2 Players from Online Game Mode unless...

Gowans

Member
you preorder from GameStop.

(pulled from another thread as I thought it was important)

The Gamemode is available Day one on PC and on consoles in other regions.

How To Access "Squad Rush" at Launch

North America: All customers that pre-order from GameStop (local retail store or website) on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will have an Exclusive Access* for 30 days to play the "Squad Rush" gamemode and any friends they bring with them. This means you can always play with your friends if you have the Exclusive Access* never forcing you to split from them, plus those that have this Exclusive Access* are a bit more popular... even if only for 30 days. ;-) *This game mode would be automatically unlocked for everyone after 30 days.

Rest of The World: No Exclusive Access, as this mode would be unlocked day 1 at no extra cost and you can also invite any of your American buddies to play as well.

* No Exclusive Access on PC, as this mode would be unlocked day 1 (no extra cost).

So this is not a extra benefit from Pre-Ordering, you are being blocked from a feature for 30days or unless you have someone you can beg for an invite.

To not keep this to a general Pre-orders suck thread (plenty of them) but does this "incentive" specifically cross the line?

An online game mode blocked from access and not a extra bonus also highlighted as it's available to many other people.

Maybe Army of Two:40th days good sales encouraged this?

I'm not from US, but still fuck you, EA, fuck you and all the companies that keep this shananigan.

This is awful for the US guys, it's clearly "blocking a feature".

This is the first example of crossing the line for me, Pre-order bonuses should really be bonus additional content.

Initially I thought about changing my preorder when I heard about this, but I'm keeping my Amazon one. My roommate and I got 90 hours out of the beta, and we've got about 21 hours out of the 360 demo so far. I think we can keep ourselves busy for 30 days until this shit unlocks. I wish publishers would stop splintering off little pieces of content for shit like this. My $60 should give me access to everything in the game that is on the disc regardless of where I preordered from or whether I preordered it at all. I fucking hate the guys at my local Gamestop and I have no real interest in supporting them.

That is a bunch of BS. It is one thing to give a bonus gun or armor, but to withhold a game mode for 30 days should be illegal.

Well, I am on the fence of pre-ordering right now from Amazon since I am hoping they will have their $10 credit.

I can wait 30 days so we'll see.

This isn't exactly new but anyway that mode doesn't sound that great anyway. Only 4 on 4, it's going to miss that crazy Battlefield vibe of tons of dudes running around in complete chaos.

Looks like I'll be playing MAG for another month until this is unlocked. I probably would have got it at gamestop by chance but I'm definitely not getting it there anymore.

Yes - this crosses the line. Frankly, it turned me off enough that I went from probably going to buy Bad Company 2 to probably not going to buy. Plenty of other games coming out around the same time that I can pick up from my local mom & pop shop (that I prefer to give my money to) without losing out on a whole game mode for a month. The deal leaves a real sour taste...

Technically we should feel less offended by this kind of preorder bonus, because they're clearly stating it will be available for everyone starting on a very specific date.

But I still hate this new trend so much. Maybe it's because it encourages me to wait 30 days after release to play the game, whereas it's currently in my Gamefly queue such that it will ship to me day one.

Is there a Gowans-to-English translator in the thread?
I think I had blocked in there but mucked up when editing to fit it all in the title.

If a mod can be arsed a change would be great.

You get it tho ;)

They did the same with the second Army of Two....

This. MAG rocks. BFBC2 is definitely next for me...but not from Gamestop. I couldn't even stomach pre-ordering from them to "scam" a beta key. Ended up scoring one legitimately, anyway.

Seriously, what's the point in doing this? This game mode will probably have very few people playing at launch thanks to this so why bother :(
It is definitely a line-crosser this one.

buh buh infinity ward are evil, Dice/EA will save us from this dark dark age.....yeah, so much for that.

whens the BadCompany2 boycott thread going up?

Yeah this is fucking bullshit. Don´t worry US XBL friends, I will invite you ^^

Wtf is up with the title though Gowans, I had to read it like 5 times, and it still doesn't make sense.

Pathetic. Soon we will be barred from completing a game for the first 30 days unless we preorder the game.

Just wait the 30 days and save $20 when it eventually goes $40 on sale at certain stores.

I really hate it.
But im gonna buy the game anyway :(

I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

And to anyone who feels the need to pass out advice like "Dont support games that do stuff like this" you might as well save your breath. You said it before and nobody listened and they aren't going to listen this time. Those people you tried to warn before are the reason this stuff happens now.

This really isn't anything like that. Well, a little bit, but this is gone after 30 days. Not as bad as taking away entire modes/features from the pc version now is it?

You mean line stepper? The only habitual line stepper is Rick James

Just used "cross" instead because the term "line crosser" was used throughout..ah nevermind :/

Either way, I had orignally wanted to get this for PC . It is a shame that they'd as far as blocking a mode though. While not outrageous, it is a sign of things getting worse as far as pre-order incentives go.

Yeah, this is a really shitty way to do things. It's nothing really new, it's just another step in a shitty direction, and it really doesn't show any sign of turning. The only way that this stops is if it negatively impacts sales, and it won't. Not significantly, at least.

I was running really hot on this game after a few days in the beta, but this just threw a bucket of ice water on it. I can wait for a good sale on Steam, I have plenty of things to keep me busy otherwise.

Strange we haven't seen any "Superior race somethingsomething peasant console gamers blablabla" comment, is finally bannable? :lol
Hopefully it's just PC people rationally agreeing that it's a fairly dick move. I know I'm playing on the PC, which isn't really impacted at all, but am still soured on the game.

Yes, that´s doing a backflip over the line while peeing on your head.

I´m not much of an online gamer (last games played online: D2 and RtCW) and I planned to get this after one of the lightning fast UK price drops for pc to play the campaign, but now I don´t know if I should buy at all. Just as I don´t buy Activision games.

It's easily the crappiest mode in the game and something I'm not interested in playing whatsoever, let alone in the first month. Of course I dislike the practice of it, just like I dislike all preorder exclusives or realistically any content on the disc that is locked away.

Same complaints I had against Halo & Recon armor, even though I received it early. The fact that it took them 2 years and a $60 expansion to hit you up for it was just :lol

If it's on the disc, it should be unlocked through achievements or xp grinding in multiplayer, not some magical code applied by yourself or some dude with access to an online database

it's an omen of the kind of respect we can expect ea to pay the community post-release. a multiplayer fps community is a delicate thing, and needs to be approached with a little class and restraint. something i'm convinced ea are entirely incapable of.

it's weird how just suggesting the idea that a publisher doesn't nickel and dime fuck their playerbase into a splintered incoherent mess makes me feel like some cantankerous old bastard demanding the gas station fills up the tank of my old 68 chevvy for a fistful of dimes and a piece of half chewed taffy.

I think the Amazon version has some goodies with it that nobody else gets as well (whatever is in the free 'Limited Edition', at least), and it's cheaper to boot. I'm not real concerned.

Because some people in my gaming group had their 360s go down we're doing the PS3 version, and I'm more concerned about that than anything. We had to play the PS3 version of BC1 for similar reasons (the 360 hardware is such an atrocious piece of shit, Jesus Christ), and the voice was broken and the tearing was nasty.

I really hope BC2 on the PS3 is better, or at least closer to the 360 version.

Regardless, my hype level for this game is higher than any shooter this generation. It could come packed with rusty razor blades and used hypodermic needles and I'd still buy it Day 1.

EA doing it yet again with the "exclusive to one store" bit again - I'd understand a universal pre-order deal that every single person could participate in, but come on.

They did it with Mass Effect 2 which pissed me off, and now they're doing it again with BC2 - I'm in Europe, but it doesn't excuse it one bit.

The problem is this kind of shit is spreading like fire and is everyone's fault like the DLC bullshit.

I'm part of the problem I bought ME2 with the terminus armor, sorry

Also, BC1 had free DLC, but seeing things like this I don't think BC2 will.

Yup, but all my games are imported from the US.

The practice of doing this sucks, but specifically for this game, the mode sounds like dogshit anyways. Battlefield is always about big battles.

Either way I preordered from Gamestop, since I work there and all. Plus I wanted the free upgrade to the CE.

Never, games too good.

Anyways, oh well, I usually pre-order games that I want, or I wait a long time to pick up used ones. I like to make up my mind before the game comes out on whether or not I'm picking it up day 1 or I'm going to wait. Still really dumb though.

Woah, hold on, Recon is a whole different story, it was meant for people who did cool stuff, it was not for everyone until Bungie decided they wanted to give it out. This is definitively not the same situation as Recon by a long shot.

Yeah, I'd seen it before. I think it's particularly ridiculous in this case because the first game died out quickly because people got burned out on the single online mode it shipped with. This one has what...four - but it's really just two, with squad variations of each? And they're LOCKING one unless you preorder? Now that's just stupid.

Fuck EA and Gamestop. Someone pull up the Mass Effect 2 pre-order content chart to remind people how fucked up these two are.

Yup, screw this "bonus".

Isn't there some consumer rights thing that can fight this kind of nonsense or can publishers really do whatever they want?
I'm not from the US, but this stinks.

the spooky bit is we're only half way down this slippery slope. Maybe even less. It's only 30 days so it isn't insulting but it's still offensive.
