V-Jump's turn: FFXIII & FF Versus scan

I only have one game... Uncharted. That'll change with DMC4 and RgG Kenzan. Hopefully both do well enough in Japan to generate more userbase. It's quite a sad state of affairs overall.

Yep.

Actually, nothing out of Japan has appealed to me much as of yet. WKS looks like the first nex gen jrpg for me. Even though that is my fave genre, if I could get one game from Japan right now it would be GT 5 prologue. Ill pick up DMC4 as well, though Im no big fan of the series

Nope. I really think S-E is playing safe here. They're not going to release a FF game on a system until they can be sure of x sales at least. If they announce FFXIII with a release date, all they're doing is trapping themselves in a corner.
Huh? They've already said they are going to release it for PS3. It needs a BIG game other than MGS4 to be hyped. FFXIII is that game. With a release date set, it gives people an idea of when they should get a PS3. If gamers know it's an exclusive and they can't get it anywhere else, then they'll have to get a PS3.

I can't see how Square-Enix is helping themselves by holding off on announcing a release date. If anything, they're hurting themselves. I lose interest in FF with each passing month that has gone by without solid info pertaining to when this game is coming out.

she is Lighting right? if not they are sisters i bet

I feel like I've been married to XIII and Versus for fifty years and the magic is gone. My interest is waning and I can't get it up for these games anymore. Either stfu about them, Square, or show/say something worth my while. They are really killing my anticipation.

I dont think the whole "FFXIII reports in 2008" means it will be released in 2008.
No, but the fact that SE only tends to seriously hype their games 6/7 months before their release dates means it. FFXIII's flood of news is now starting - lots of new stuff today, and famitsu promises a big FFXIII's article next week, and dengeki next month. Even a western mag (EGM) will have new FFXIII info in its next issue. FFXIII should be 65%-75% completed by now.

Every FF game, I always theorize that two characters are secretly related.

FFVI: Terra and Celes. Way too many similarities (plus the new translation confirmed that Celes knew Terra before).

FFVIII: Seifer and Cid (come on, he's got Seifer's card. No one ever seems to notice this).

FFIX: Garnet and Eiko (again, lots of similarities, especially when Garnet cuts the hair. Plus someone even asks straight up if they could be related).

FFX: A lot of people miss that Yuna and Rikku are cousins, since it's only mentioned if Tidus has a high affinity with Rikku.

That's about it, but I think it'd be a good balance if Lightning had a younger sister to keep her in check.

Then watch Lightning go on a berserker rage when she dies. :(

I'm the same way and it's been this way for the last few Square games. But like every time prior... Square will release ingame footage that strangles my balls and pulls me back in :lol

a couple of pics that dont really tell you anything about the game is hardly what I call 'flood of news', square probably wants to keep awareness in the game pretty high so they release some new shots here and there.

we dont know anything about the gameplay whatsoever. if they start showing pics about the battle system and stuff then yeah, 65-75% complete bit could be true.

cg shots=flood of news :o

we do know about the battle system. Famitsu/Jump/Dengeki (can't remember which) did like 4 pages based on the E3/TGS 2006 footage, based on information S-E gave them about it. Tsuchida has been talking about it since last winter.

We didn't see FFX's battle system until a mere 4 and a half months before the game's release.

again, just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean what Grivenger said isn't true.

Got any links? I wasn't following this stuff back then.

Define flood news. You are basically getting info and "news" Pictures about Trailers which where shown in Closed Theaters months ago.

I guess we better wait until Famitsu's scans. If there is indeed new stuff in them, then the flood of news is really starting.

I mean, until now, everytime they revealed new stuff, even if taken from closed-theater trailers, they would show nothing else for a couple of months. Now, there's about two-three different mags that will have new stuff respectively (VJump, then Famitsu, and who knows if Dengeki will have the famitsu's stuff or even more news), and even western mags are about to start advertising the game (EGM, and at the same time as JP ones!).

If they were still releasing shots for the sake of the game not being forgotten, then the next piece of news we would be seeying would be in several months, not in the next week.

Don't see Tsuchida or any S-E information in any of them about the battle system! Just 2 pages of Famitsu circling stuff from screenshots and making educated guesses! Maybe you have more info?

can't find the Tsuchida interview from last Feb., but I'm searching feverishly. ;)

There was an interview with Tsuchida (when they revealed that Tsuchida was the battle director!), and some quotes here and there from Toriyama (vehicles being usable in battles, huge monsters, etc), but other than that, not much. It was all pretty vague, though.

I know, I've read all of them. But since FFXIII media is actually popping up now, it'll be nice if JollyCorner could find the actual links to back it all up. Instead of us all relying on memory and hearsay.

so yeah... isn't that enough to know that the battle system could be far enough along to be at least 65% complete? christ all mighty... :lol

edit:

duckroll- finding Kitase interviews are fairly easy. Tsuchida is proving not so much, but I'm trying, lad... trying real hard. :D

Damn the new girl looks about as great as Lightning. Best female FF cast ever I do believe. I'm now physically ill in anticipation for this motherfucker.

yeah, Im pretty sure everything we have heard of the battle system has been vague...the main point being that its going to be fast paced, flashy and partially (arghh) turn based...no random encounters though (yay)

That's what we all said about FFXII at E3 2004.

Yeah because the Kitase interviews with Nomura were REALLY RECENT! :lol

If this was not a challenging task, it would not be worthy to waste time on it. :)

Even the developers said it. ;) Unless FFXIII suffers from the same development problems as FFXII (which In highly doubt. I can't see Kitase's team having such kind of problems, considering how much experienc ethey have), what happened to FFXII will not happen with FFXIII.

Why so much Carbuncle hate.. I for one think he looks awesome like an Apple with eyes and a frilly colar. Awesome Stuff.

Ifrit is probably my least favourite out of the lot.

Oh wow what a great article, here's an excerpt :

"This time, Tsuchida was asked from the start to create a flashy, speedy battle system. He felt that the command-based systems that have been used for previous Final Fantasy games wouldn't allow for this. However, Square Enix wanted a battle system that was as fast as an action game while allowing the player to input commands. That's apparently what we'll be getting in FFXIII.

The battle system is still considered an ATB system, complete with time flowing by as you input commands. However, the actual means of input has changed a bit and, according to Tsuchida, will now allow for more control options. You'll be able to, for example, select between carrying out a simple slash, or charging and then slashing. Some characters will be able to combine magic with standard attacks. And all of this is somehow connected to a new animation system that will blend individual motions to result in a single smooth motion.

Final Fantasy XIII's battle system may share a few points in common with the Final Fantasy XII system. Rather than a standard encounter-based system where battle begins with the allies and enemies in a face off, Tsuchida suggested that FFXIII's battles will begin with the player noting, "Oh, here's an enemy.""
....
"In addition to moving differently based on the situation, an enemy's "category" will also change. Enemies in FFXIII are categorized with much detail, Tsuchida revealed. Kitase (who didn't speak much during the interview) made it clear just how much detail we can expect. Battalions will have their own personnel chart, with each soldier having his own background story."

This is the first Final Fantasy I've been REALLY excited over since 7. Square now has enough juice in a machine whereas they won't have to make compromises as they did during the PS2 era. The models in the PS2 era took a huge jump up, but the backgrounds couldn't match the prerendered affairs from the PSX games. Beyond the technicality of the graphics, something about the art style really catches me.

Mustn't get hyped... this happened in 2007. I thought we'd see some really good stuff and we saw, well, nothing. I still need to convince myself nothing worthwhile will be shown this year so I don't get let down.

Someone told me that the magazine says that this is real-time. Could someone who understands Japanese confirm it? (No, I don't believe it is real-time)

its not... it was in the tgs trailer, where all the new additions were cg. I really want to see gameplay screens, but Im honestly not worried whether it will look good or not...it will be the best looking rpg quite easily I would say

:lol @ people thinking this game is as much as 75% complete.

FFXIII = 2009
FFvsXIII = 2010
As long as they are released worldwide in those years, that will be fine. There is no real need for FFXIII to be out this year, the more development time the better and the PS3 library is already excellent for 2008.

If SE can stick to their "two or more" FF's per console lifecycle then we should see FFXIII by early 2009 and FFXIV by 2011.

I agree that the PS3 has an excellent lineup as far as 2008, but to say it doesn't need this title this year is ludicrous.

I am really liking the pigtailed girl. She's the first FFXIII character design that interests me. She doesn't look over the top or anything like that and reminds me of Nomura's FFVIII and X character designs, which are my favorite.

I really like that pig headed girl!

Seriously if you didn't like her design, I was going to just give up :lol

Well, some sources claimed that part WAS real-time in the trailers.

Looks like all of GAF is digging the new girl, I hope the rest of the cast delivers.

And I agree, Himuro, a very FFVIII vibe.
