I've played CS for a whole lot of years and CS:S for some years too, and no, 5vs5 is not fine for me.

I think this is an interesting subject to discuss. How many more players would you prefer, and why? Does this also extend to map sizes and round times? Since you want more players, would you also want matches to last much longer, with much larger maps to support the increased player size?

You really think it won't be? It's steams #1 game they aren't going to dick it over.
valve have recently been adamantly following their inclusive "we design games for our whole userbase" mantra - with portal 2's zero dexterity requirements serving as perhaps the most potent example of this.

counter-strike, how you and i would want it to be, is far from inclusive.

i can only hope that gabe discovers his inner elitist.

"its release in August 1999"

Uh, am I misremembering things or did it not release in June?

There were like five or six servers and I was playing cs_prison...

And Half-Life 3 will be late 2012? Right?

Since Episode 2, we will have gotten Portal, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Alien Swarm, Portal 2, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. They are all top-notch games (except maybe Alien Swarm), but you know what we really want now. Have mercy on us Valve.

Valve is going to make sequels to every IP they own before they get back to HL.

I can't wait for Day of Defeat 2.

Same here, I am completely addicted to Day of Defeat Source right now it is not even funny.

Oh my.

Valve seems to be taking aim at CoD and MoH with this coming out for consoles and PC.

I don't see that much. It is an XBLA release, and appears to be an updated version not a new sequel. Plus it's coming out next spring.

So it is like the original CS.

"valve creators of counter-strike' isnt really true as modders made it
They bought those modders. Although one has bailed, so I guess it's stopped being true. But it was for a while.

I almost want to say that I'd rather have Half-Life 3 be console exclusive than have a new competitive-focused CS game be multiplatform.

not sure yet

I find 4v4/5v5 and 16(+)v16(+) fun for different reasons. I can play and enjoy both.

I've also wanted to see how a larger scaled game would play with the gunplay of CSS.

CS was the second most played game online on Xbox up until they stopped service.

Yup. Good times playing that, Unreal Championship, and Halo 2.

I wonder if they'll do the same thing as Portal 2? Buy it on PSN, get it on Steam as well. I'd totally do that.

8v8 minimum.

I assume this means PC/Mac/PS3 cross platform play?

Valve. Your making me cry. I NEED HALF-LIFE 2: EPISODE THREE OR HALF-LIFE 3!

Someone is curently attempting to sell canada for it

------

Will there be ps3/pc cross games?

Wow. The "betrayed" tears are a bit depressing. Valve of all people have done PC Gamers right. I'm going to wait and see the actual game before throwing a hissy fit.

I don't get the multiplat hate, why is it bad that another group of gamers get to play this? It's not affecting how PC gamers play...

It's very annoying that Valve announces games without any screenshots or video to be seen :/
Still no screenshots for dota2 sheez...

I was hoping for L4D on PS3, but I guess this is OK.

I enjoyed CS a lot though.

Oh I definitely agree, but we're talking about different types of games and different types of multiplayer here. I was referring to CS specifically. I wouldn't find a 16v16 CS fun at all, in fact, to support that, the sort of maps and gameplay objectives that would be required to make it engaging would take away a lot of what I liked about CS.

Not mentioned in the official announcement so far.

Ah I think I misread something in the press release.

When it is also released on consoles? I seriously doubt it.

Yeah totally forgot about that. Then again who knows, maybe it'll be a TF2 thing in the end, free on pc but not on console.
