Valve approves first full-on pornographic game for sale on Steam

IT looks like Steam finally allows fully adult only games to be released on their platform. The first title is Negligee: Love Stories and will be rleased this firday. The devs earlier confirmed this.

How are they doing this? There is now a Store preference option you have to activate before getting access to the page. Which is a really nice way since it is disabled per default.

And yes of course it is a western Anime porn game. But this is just the begining. And we could great games since yes there are also very very good hentai games with great stories.

Okay, that's fine, I have no problem, especially with how Steam is setting up whether you want to see sexual content or not. Personally I prefer story, comedy or gameplay to be in the frontline, while also having no problem if the game contains erotic scenes or not. Then again, as I was younger I loved playing Strip Poker type of games, kind of built up seeing a woman naked, unlike nowadays where you can just search and find endless and more extreme. That's why I also don't have a problem with lewd games, as they harken back to a more innocent stage and also building up around sexual stimulation and the sense of reveal, rather than just outright porn. That said, if you want an outright porn game, that's fine as well.

Lol those dumb prude americans are so scared of nudity what a bunch of snowflakes, god forbid some kid sees boobs on their tv the or their neighbor getting the morning paper naked lol welcome to the 1700s america

I am all for this and approve.

Why should they not? People that do not want these games can just filter to not see or buy them.
An open marketplace should not impose moral values or restrictions beyond what is legal or illegal.

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy
Its not like unlogged users can see these games anyways and you would have to flick a switch to have it been shown to you. Enough safety measures, i would say.

I wish AO was a thing on consoles, that way devs making M rated games could go nuts without limiting themselves by the rating system

As a counterpoint though, this might ruin things for the stores that have marketed themselves as AO. Though it might also increase the audience of the games through more exposure. Then again, I imagine the AO places will still excel, since they likely either will work to get games published on their platforms or they'll probably even function as a publisher.

I have no problem with it either unless kids can just make up their age and easily download it by using a Steam gift card and bypassing the whole credit card thing. That's where Valve needs to be pro-active. This is one of the problems online, this sense of anonymity where anyone can become whoever they want.

Funny that they gave a western Anime style porn game a thumbs up. But maybe they'll allow Japanese ones now without those weird rules they had before.

But they also could just buy a regular visa card and buy it at the original place as well. So you just changed where they bought it.

No, respectfully, that is bullshit, or you did not think things through.
If kids have unfettered access to the internet they do not need neither Steam or Gift Cards in order to access pornography if that is what they seek.

I just assume you did not think this line or reasoning through before you posted. Because it does not really compute.

This is true.

I know there are parental filters for adult content online but it's not so easy for videogames. Many parents don't have problems with mature games but they probably would with pornographic ones. This is something entirely new because retailers would not be carrying these titles.

Or entering your birth date for those mature games on Steam. >.>

That's what I mean. It's one of the problems when online is how anyone can be anonymous. Kids are also smart enough to bypass adult filters so there is no easy answer here. I just don't somebody trying to go after Valve so they should do their due diligence.

Why shouldn't they?
Indeed. I've never understood why games should be considered clear of porn. It's insane to me that the platform holders don't allow it, it's like having a VHS player that refuses to play porn tapes because the maker is afraid it'll dirty their image. Free goddamn market, put them on sale, if people buy them, they want it therefore they should be allowed to play it. We don't need nanny platforms holders banning stuff for our own good, especially when they aren't even the publishers.

People talk about porn only...
Imagine to finally see adult games talking about hard stuff like in books. Rape, mass murder, genocide.

Why is that books are medium which can give you "Gulag" or "Blindness" while games can't ?

Care to name one?

To name one? A google search made me find at least 2, although they seemed mostly focused on japanese games. (Nutaku and MangaGamer). Surprised to not find many, with mostly sites offering free flash-like games or focusing on sex toys. I searched for "porn/sex/adult game buy", so might be my search terms.

Ehh I find it pretty disgusting but if it doesn't break the US law and is in line with market forces than Valve can do what they want.

The better analogy would be somewhere like Target or WalMart not selling porn videos, which they don't.

Good. Now let's hope devs can rerelease/patch their current games so I never have to search for uncensor patches.

Wouldn't the better analogy be Amazon or even better something like an extremely large store selling dvds/blurays or digital movies (even really indie or experimental ones)?

Because games are mostly associated with kids.

Kids can go to any web browser, type in PornHub and watch porn instantly. Why are you so worried about kids and porn anyway? Let them enjoy smut.

Has Resetera imploded by this news yet?

Very much so. I skimmed through the thread and the first posts already were the typical sjw shit.

I hope all the english translated eroge are getting released there now, so I can have them all neatly in one place.

While they are their own company and they can do what they want I can't help but feel disappointed that they would allow and encourage such things.
