Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines - buy this game

these people are already being dicks snubbing a great game because 13 dollars is "too much" fuck em let the industry collapse under Bromances of Honor: The Duty Calls 12.
That is pretty ironic. The developer that made this is already dead and the money you pay for this will go to Activision, the company now famous for milking things to death.

Prior to the sale I had around $50 in my Steam wallet. I bought a bunch of games, then I saw this thread. I looked at my wallet and found that I had exactly $13.39 left in my wallet. What are the odds of that. Demonic powers are at play here.

It's a sign. You better not defy fate.

Though it would be arguably blasphemous to tamper with the hard work that Troika did, especially considering their post-Bloodlines fate, a game like Bloodlines is absolutely begging for a respectful developer to go over it with a fine tooth comb and clean it up.

I'm not really partial to remakes, but if done correctly Bloodlines is one of those games that could benefit from a second run. Visuals like CryEngine 3, fixed bugs, and some of the weaker areas of the game (Nosferatu sewers) tinkered with to finish what Troika were never happy with.

Granted, its the kind of thing that would never work, simply because something would be lost in translation. They'd need to keep all the voice work and facial animations intact, the atmosphere, the OST, etc.

In a hypothetical perfect future where this did happen, I dont think a game like Bloodlines would be hard to market.

You'll hate me but,

Do this, add Kinect and market the fuck out of it to the twilight/casual/mum crowed = $$$

This would of course help subsidize the superior PC version. ;)

Holy shit no thanks.

So I can't see what I assume is the various companies logos at start up. Is this normal?

Yea i can't either anymore. Too bad cuz there was a cool animation of the blonde girl sinking her teeth into the Nvidia logo that nobody can see anymore.

Let's market The Ghost Haunts at Midnight to twi-moms. Yeah, that'll go over real well.

But then it gets more exposure and that can only be a good thing. Not like it would ever happen.
Changing the setting of WoD to accommodate people that arent interested in it is a recipe for disaster. Been down roads similar to this before and its not worth it. Its better to make a Twilight game like Bloodlines than reshape WoD to appeal to Twilight fans.

This is a definite purchase at this price, though I'll hold off until the 9th and see if its a daily. Question: when I first tried this game on an older system, it ran like dog shit. My frame rate would go way down often. I remember it was especially bad when it rained. How does the game handle on current gen mid-high enthusiast hardware?

It runs on my "mid enthusiast" hardware very well. I also remember this crushing my laptop when it first came out. Loading times running into 7 minutes and such... I was cursing Source the whole time, heh. Some things never change.

And to add to the love train, Bloodlines is a great game with unforgettable moments and an unflinching depiction of a mature product.

Thanks, I will probably be able to add some funds to my wallet by then =)
Actually I can't be sure sorry, I thought all the sales were constant for the whole ten days, but it might not be the case. I'll post if I find out though.

You were right, it's part of the Activision catalog sale which goes throughout the entire summer sale.

Actually Vamp, I'm having issues downloading the file for some reason.

I tried two different browsers several times, and I keep getting this:

Could you maybe try Megaupload or something?

Would it be possible to upload these to a different source? For some reason I keep getting a connection interrupted error from that site.

The link works fine for me, maybe it was becuase I only just uploaded it at the time?
Try again and let me know.

I swear I've been sitting at the character creation stat screen for an hour. Not used to having this many decisions lately.

This game was so fucking good.

I really liked the stuff like having your own laptop with email, hotel room, the newspapers, tv reports, hacking computer systems, the powers etc...

I do have a few mods for this game saved on my hdd somewhere, better skins and stuff I can reupload since most of the fansites which hosted them are dead now if anyone wants.
Also things like better signs and proper fangs and stuff.

I want proper fangs. Vsmpires need good fangs.

it's already HD.

Ha, badly phrased. I simply meant if it were touched up a bit, in the graphics / gameplay department. I was simply referencing the HD collections as a template for the kind of re-release I'd like to see.

Just finished installing and played a few missions. This game is crazy good and immersive. Finished the ghost haunts at midnight - scared the shit out of me when
I turned around and the spirit was holding an axe staring at me then the lighting struck in the background
. I literally screamed like a girl after that and ran out the door.

I always thought the basement was creepier.
Fuck the washing machines

5 hours in the game so far and man this game is incredible.

It fleshed out Deus Ex's concept thirty fold.

Can't believe that this only has an 80 on meticritic. Once again reviews mean shit for RPGs.

At launch it was pretty glitchy. No one goes back and re-reviews anything.

Still even back then it was pretty special. I've played it without patches. Its actually not that bad.

I'm playing it without patches now. Outside of Left and Right speakers being vice versa and the logo intro screen not showing up its been fine.

Not as bad as say Fallout: New Vegas.

Yeah, reviewers tend to not recognize the things that actually make for a good RPG. One of the best RPG's of this gen has score below 70.

But yeah, it would be smart to use the community patch, but whatever. As long as you're playing the game, you're doing it right.

Bloodlines has the benefit of several years of fixes, but either way, sometimes you gotta put up with bugs to play the best RPG's available.

Assuming your version at least has the official patches (if Steam auto patches), on release there was a game breaking bug that prevented you from completing one of the key plot missions.

Vanilla was a trainwreck.

Wasn't this game delayed beyond belief as well?

True, but that doesn't mean that the game could sell really well over time and interest a capable developer into making a sequel. See modern Fallout games.

It was stuck in development hell for awhile. From what I recall there were issues between Activision and Valve regarding who would be first to bring out a Source game, Troika asked for more time with the product to fix up some of the rougher areas and were denied, and the game was leaked very early.

Troika essentially never finished Bloodlines the way they wanted, and I recall them spending a lot of unpaid time working on patches to fix up the release issues when they knew the company was doomed.

Tis a tale of tragedy.

Sold! This is one of my fiance's favourite games of all time, and she doesn't even usually like RPG's.

I just hope I don't get overwhelmed or anything. I haven't played a deep RPG in so long. The Fables and Mass Effects have lulled me to sleep in that regard.

They released the game the same day as Half-Life 2...

Why would they release a game the same day as the most hyped and greatest game of all-time?

Activision wanted Troika to die!

Oh yeah I forgot about that, as well as the whispers throughout the hallways and airvents. Honestly, that was one of the best RPG quests I've ever experienced.

No offense, I just don't know how people can read through this changelog, and make it even past the first non-plus / basic patch change:

All illogical spawning and respawning is removed on several levels.

And decide they want to play the game without the basic UOP patch, having more of the annoying combat everyone hates (people have quit the game because they can't deal with the combat), even where it makes no sense to have it. I generally enjoyed the combat in Bloodlines, but I wouldn't choose to have it happening (especially respawning) in places where it was annoying. *insert entire game joke

And misc. combat doesn't even get you XP in this game, so there's almost no point to it (some people just enable god mode or bypass combat entirely). Not to mention the 100s of other fixes, stuff like:

Repaired clipping, look-through and other issues of various models.
Added missing sounds for weapons, stat events, background and more.
Swapped wrong manhole covers for Griffith Park and Giovanni mansion.
Provided twenty places for Malkavian voice whispers during dialogue.
Corrected Mercurio sending wrong timed emails and fixed email order.
Repaired VV and Jeanette sending you their emails at the wrong time.

Why have clipping errors, missing sounds, wrong artwork, timed events not playing out correctly, etc? I realize people aren't going to be able to catch most of this stuff without it being pointed out to them, but it's so simple to fix it all now. Unless you intend on replaying it again I guess. I understand wanting to play the "intended version" and all, but it's not like the game was ever released in a proper state to begin with, and the non-plus patch doesn't introduce the drastic changes to the gameplay, it focuses on mostly fixes.

At least you're playing and enjoying the game, so I can't fault you too much! :) As it has been said, it's a phenomenal game even without the fan patches, same is true many other games like STALKER, Torment, Fallout and so on, but they're improved (in some cases drastically) with them.

I'm planning on going more stealthy this time around but couldn't remember how much forced combat there was since it's been a while since I've last played this. It was the vanilla version at release too.

I love this game, and playing it is one of my favourite gaming memories. I played it a couple years ago in that beautiful couple weeks after finals and before starting my summer job. My parents had also decided to go out of town for a few days, so I had the house all to myself with no distractions. So needing something to do, I thought to myself: "Hey, I should play that Vampire game the internet loves that I bought 2 years ago and haven't even looked at". So I sat down, installed the game, found some patches, and dove in.

I wasn't prepared. Within an hour I was totally engrossed in the game. Never before or since have I been so pulled into a games world. I simply could not stop till I was finished. And I didn't. When I finally emerged from my room a day and a half later, I was tired, smelly and hungry and grinning like a madman. I had just experienced a perfect storm of gaming, with one of the most amazing games I've ever had the chance of playing.

I finally got out of the character select screen. Decided to go with Tremere. The whole thing with Thaumaturgy and how it caused the other clans to be wary of them sounds cool.

I'm guessing my primary focus in combat will be magic then? Though since this stuff uses up my blood meter I assume I'll need to make sure I have guns/melee weapons on the side.

I've only done one quest yet I've already played over 2 hours. Mostly because I've been talking to everyone the game lets me. I've run into some great dialogue already.
