'Venetica' (X360/PC) Announced - Screens

My bad. I see the link now.
The update looks great. I'm in the US and would like to check this out when it hopefully gets here. I cant help but compare it to Fable. Maybe thats what they were trying to go for?
I'll look for a review somewhere on the net.

To be honest, what do people expect from the dev team that made this:
Under the label Deck13:

* Venetica
* Haunted (in development, publisher insolvent)
* Stealth Combat
* Ankh (also available as special edition and for Linux)
* Ankh: Herz des Osiris (also available as special edition)
* Ankh Gold (the first two Ankh games together; also available as special edition in pyramideshape)
* Jack Keane
* Ankh: Kampf der Götter
* Seven Symbols (in development)

Under the label Artex Software:

* Ankh: The Tales of Mystery
* Carnival Cruise Lines Tycoon 2005: Island Hopping
* Ski Resort Tycoon: Deep Powder
* TEK 1608
From Wikipedia.

I mean, come one.
Its embarassing to read stuff like "one of Germanys biggest game developers".

Rocksteady made Batman: Arkham Asylum. What have they done before?

I don't think anybody is claiming Venetica is some overlooked work of genius - might still be worth playing though.

Well, I bough it for my 360, it is coming from Germany right now. I do not expect much, but I have a fall for small, not so known games.

I beat the game around Christmas last year and I really liked it. There are some bugs and on a technical level the game isn't anything special. Nevertheless I liked the story/characters/world. Would buy a sequel.

I can't be the only one who had never heard about this game until the bump and thought it was the Capcom announcement, right?

This game got really good reviews in Germany. I can't believe NeoGAF can be so unbelievably prejudiced about such an original looking game from an underdog dev. I've never seen it happen before.

Sarcasm right? 99% sure....

Exactly, I'm just hoping for a decent gameworld with some pretty locales and some exploration thrown in. I hear the quests are pretty decent too, not "kill 1000 wolves and return" and repeat troughout the game. That's all I want, I'm not expecting anything earthshattering.

Wow...definite shades of GALLEON

Just a generic female hero swapped with the male.

This game will sell millions!
to retailers

This is a perfect example I think of a game that should not be $60. It does not scream polish and high quality like many others and I feel would do much better at $30-$40 rather than be directly compared with much more quality products at $60.

the new graphics look great. I wish there was a US release date or demo. I'm sure if it was an over hyped sequel to something people would be more accepting here.

The fighting looks pretty decent from the trailer as well.

yeah it does not look at all. glad there is no DS version.

if you are a female and are agreeing with this, then there is something wrong with you.

look for crying out loud she look like a prostitute. Thats like saying female can't be better than this in games.

here is how female video game characters should be:

not like those, with the cleavage.

grow up.

Checked out some gameplay videos. Kind of reminds me of Drakan: The Ancients' Gates. Fun game I played last year. Nothing the game did particularly well, but still charming and enjoyable.

Drakan is cool. Really early 3d though. I need to finish it so I can play this Drakan ps2 game i got.
Thats the one I have completed (PS2). Tried the original but I didn't like the way it controlled at all. May go back sometime though.

Yeah, because all girls showing cleavage are clearly sluts.

Oh, wait...

Seriously, there's nothing wrong with the character, she's in line with the general art direction (which I happen to find quite charming, by the way). And Venetica being an RPG, you can dress her up in different sets of armor if her normal clothes upset you that much.

Though some are obviously just as revealing.

It's the exact opposite with me. I loved the original, but quit playing The Ancients' Gates out of frustration. Still, it's a shame Sony will probably never revive the IP.

the game is a horrible glitch and bug fest - at least on xbox. to bad, because under its technical failure its not that bad.

Yeah dude! Preach at women what they should want from their digital representations! You tell 'em, they probably don't even realise they're being oppressed!

So I've played for about 3 hours now. Gotta say: It's pretty damn fun! Again, don't go into this game expecting a masterpiece, but the Fable comparisons are pretty much spot-on so far. It feels a lot like it. The art is similar (and it's really not that bad guys, it's just a bit low-budget).

The main thing I don't like about the game so far is how linear it is. Again, if you've played Fable 1, you know what to expect, it's very much alike. You don't have much freedom, you basically follow straight paths that branch off in different directions. It does work for the game and I actually think it's gonna be a non-issue soon; the game starts off just outside the games' main playground: Venice, which is a, judging from the in-game map, huge town in the game. Of course, towns are in some ways just a lot of straight paths anyway, so if the game allows you to explore the town freely, the linearity, or rather lack of freedom, isn;t gonna be a big-deal anymore. I'm just about to enter the city, so I'll have to update my impressions tomorrow when I continue playing.

Graphically it's fine. It has a nice atmosphere, almost Fable-light. Character models are a mixed-bag. Some look surprisingly good, but the more generic npc's look terrible and have a lot of repeated models.

The one dungeon/cave I did so far wasn't that great tbh. It was just a bunch of tunnels zigzagging about. But that was just one thing, so who knows what the rest may bring.

I can't really comment on the story as I'm just not far at all in the game, but I don't think it's gonna be memorable in any way. There's this silly romance that's awkwardly handled and it's just not very well told. But for me this doesn't really mater, I never play these kind of games for the story anyway. Voice-overs are standard fare; not terrible, not great.

Combat is alright; when you level up you get a bunch of skillpoints that you can use to train yourself in certain skills. Special trainers have different skills to teach you. You also get 3 attribute points that you can distribute immediately. it's all pretty basic.

Looking back on this little first-impressions I just wrote, I find I come off as pretty negative, but honestly, the game is a lot of fun to play. I'd say if you like Fable 1 and 2 (especially 1) you should check it out. This game won't change the world, but it seems like a decent and solid enough game to warrant a purchase.

I'm playing on PC with the latest patch installed which really does improve the graphics a lot, so yeah, the PC version comes recommended.

Thanks for the early impressions. It's a pity about the linearity but is sounds like a solid $30-ish purchase otherwise. How are the NPC interactions and side quests?

I've seen allot ofyou tube videos on the game,looks like allot of fun. People need to drop their console war horse shit and leave the thread already. Or maybe go buy the PC version if some don't have a 360 to place it on.

Not all women have to be conservative in the clothing department dude. I will agree, it would be nicer to have more central female characters with an expansive personality like Alex, but females can be tough and have sex appeal at the same time like Brutal Legend. Women in real life can be tough and have sex appeal and a good amount are. You're the one that needs to grow up if you can't understand where she (or...it could be a dude. this is the internet) is getting at.

Yeah. Yeah, ugh works.

Thanks for sharing brah! You're the only who's expressed this!

Seriously, I hope the localization goes well. Definitely looks interesting.

Played a few mins of the demo, no idea what's going on since I don't speak German.
The graphics are pretty nice, lots of neat bloom effects and stuff. The music is good and the cut scenes looked pretty well done. I had some tearing type stuff.. but Maybe I missed a setting to help with that in the menu which is German also.

It seems like it could be a fun game. I'd play more but I don't know what to do because of the language thing.

Except Alyx is poorly written and fucking annoying. She reflects poorly on women just as much as the average video game heroine whore.

Thank you. Alyx is just as much a fantasy object as the obvious more scantily-clad heroine types.

QFT. I personally think there's few female characters who are well developed.. The Boss for example
