The lack of competition is really bringing this place down. Well, that and other reasons. I pay $40 a month for my service, which is up to 6 mbps download and up to .768 mbps upload, and it's the top of the line from AT&T. The equiavalent at the cable company is $55 a month, and it's an extra $15 a month to get their top level package with is up to 10 mbps download and up to 1 mbps upload. Not to mention their service is shit, and goes down everytime we have a bad storm.

That's the same package I paid for in college.

Stick with it for the price. It's a pretty good bargain if you can live without TV although sometimes Comcast has a bait and switch package of $30/month plans for TV & Internet which they proceed to jack the price to $90 after one year.

Maybe you want to call a tech to get your line checked. Oh nvm that was for Comcast. lol

I heard they only give those termination letters if use to much data when roaming? Why advertise "Unlimited" data with NO CAPS on your site and at your local stores. It just doesn't make sense.

It really doesn't. They say the usage has to be reasonable although the only termination I heard were from users who were on their heavily discounted SERO 3G plan.

However, I haven't heard anyone getting terminated recently. I'm going to guess the extra $10 data 4G fee (and now 3G fee for 3G phones) covers the unlimited part.

I just did a speed test with my G2 over T-Mobile in LA and my ping is 66 ms too.

Ping with cell phones will always be awful.

Here's mine on three bars:

Sad how speeds are better than my Verizon ADSL connection. lol

Although it reiterates why hardwired will always be needed because of ping.

Yep. HSPA+ is essentially 3.5G or whatever you want to call it since it uses existing 3G tech which the spectrum is already crowded. Btw 4G doesn't mean anything, and its useless definition was underscored when the 4G community changed its definition to include HSPA+.

That's why I called out the naysayers earlier in this thread dismissing those speeds because of network congestion.

if you are trying to say that the speed won't go down when more then 2 customers in an area are on it you are foolish.

It won't go down as much in degree to the 3G counterpart as LTE covers a wider spectrum.

Maybe when market penetration is full, but with a wider spectrum available, I doubt that will be a problem any time soon.

what are your speeds?

I'm jealous of these speeds, my cable connection at its best isn't nearly as fast as that. The real test begins when Verizon starts selling LTE phones.

these speeds will go down once another 5 customers go on, depending on how they are launching it, if they are allowing customers to span across channels for maximum bandwidth, as soon as there is another customer sharing that channel you are going to drop speeds. Sure it will be better then GSM, but hell, i'd wager that you won't see anywhere near this in September

Fair enough. We'll see what happens as Verizon LTE is supposed to be completed by the end of 2013 or beginning of 2014.

It won't be 5 customers that will tear the network down though.

Right now?

2.05 Mbps down
0.75 Mbps up
66 ms

Best currently saved in my history (even though I'm pretty sure I've gone higher):

9:10 AM
5.33 Mbps down
1.69 Mbps up
64 ms

I wonder how much of a hit verizon's network will take when the iphone 4 releases. LTE's speed will dramatically lower once LTE phones release and people sign up for them.

its undoubtedly better then GSM, and they are starting from a much higher bandwidth top end, ping times should also be better, not doubting the technology... i can't wait to get an LTE phone, just not expecting speeds like this to last very long

8 bits = 1 Byte.

Yes, the whole thing has become confusing, it's like hardrives using M as 10^6 but worse.

The 10 to 1 comes from modems originally with no parity, a start and stop bit (the most popular 8 bit protocol). I still see it used, but I don't think any modern protocol has that much overhead anymore.

When using something like speedtest, it is a straight 8-1 conversion, even if it is over a modem.

Err.. no. It shows 6Mbps.

I meant megabit.. or Mb in my post.. Since megabits are how we measure connections.

FIOS = 10-20Mb

His connection = 6Mb... which is pretty standard these days for even cable connections.
I'm pretty sure FIOS goes up to 50Mbits/s

I think the tiers are 15/5 25/25 and 50/20

Yeah... Just tried to watch a movie with my free Vudu credit and it turns out I'm at the half mp/s I need just for SD :lol. I'd kill for something like this Verizon magic, but my parents have their bill set up for phone, internet, and dish so that's not happening anytime soon. I need to convince them to upgrade to Uverse.

are you using a hotspot device?

what device are you using?
Im using the LG aircard.

Here is what I get with 1 bar and a SINR of 0dB.

Crazy speeds. Speedtest thinks I'm in Kansas for some reason.

Get a SBC tech to look at your connection. Push for it. There are some things that you can do on your own like checking your stats and plugging your modem to the NID, but I don't know how comfortable you are doing those things.

If you have a 384 upload speed, you were provisioned for a 1.5-3.0 package. Something's not right with your line. Get a SBC tech to look at it.

I think your parents pay about $60-$80/month for a triple package, which is why they did that.

Goes to cry in the corner

Like I mentioned earlier, everyone who is on Verizon's DSL is now like that last Halo Reach mission. It's hopeless. Even Verizon's boss says bailout.gif. Verizon wants people to use its wireless services or new ones like FiOS and LTE. Everyone else is sent to die and is SOL.

However, you're one of those lucky people who live next to a Verizon Central Office, you're getting 15+ speeds all the time.
