Tales of Legendia - Fireflies in Shadow of Leaves, Tender Hand
System Shock 2 soundtrack. This is the first piece of soundtrack your listen to in the game.
God almighty that game has a good soundtrack.
I wouldn't call that song hauntingly beautiful though!

Thats some Castlevania feeling music right there.
If you haven't beaten it just don't read comments.

Yea, Nier's music pretty much epitomizes the concept of this thread.
Silent Hill: Homecoming - Witchcraft: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yx2LsPrD_y4
The song is played when you're at your home.
The Resident Evil Revelations soundtrack is fantastic. To add to this one, I think the song that's playing when you are swimming through thefits the theme of this thread as well.Queen Dido

Super Metroid - Brinstar (Red Soil)
These songs aren't just great "game" music, but great music in general.
Man Terranigma was great, the whole game fits the description "hauntingly beautiful". I love melancholy, but it's rare that a game or music can really pull it off. Terranigma and the Mother series (especially 3) are some great examples of it being done right.Terranigma - Underworld
Imagine this music being performed by a whole orchestra. So beautiful and sad at the same time.
Also, I love threads like these. I always discover awesome tracks I did not know about!
