You could taste the frustration there. Like he really could have gone another hour on it, but can't.
The second half and especially the last part of that was very poignant... and so far, no site seems to be quoting the latter parts of that speech - only the "rioting and looting is criminal" portion at the start.
1) It took over a century to get to the point where it was even a possibility.
Yes. But I'm talking about it now. Today there are still bigots and people (most likely those with a lot of money or power) still have antiquated racists views, but I believe that most educated people are not racist.
2) Have you seen how much racist tripe gets thrown around since he became president?
Yes, there are still racists in the world. Being non-white I hear racists marks from racist people at the time. I'm not denying there is racism. But people hold all sorts of judgments. People on welfare are considered losers by many. People who believe in certain god or god are judged by people, called idiots by people who are athesits etc etc.
3) Also notice that current issues with cops killing black youth are happening while he's in office, once again exposing how deeply rooted America's problems with race really are.
Him being elected president didn't magically stop racism nor should anyone have been under the insane delusion that it would. What it did do, is show that there's improvement, and that a change in the status quo is possible.
Problem is, as he alluded to in his reply on Baltimore: people only really care when things hit the point of crisis, when it should be something we work at daily.
I'm not denying racism. I'm not denying that there are cops that racists.
But I don't believe racism is not the main problem. I believe It's income that determines your value in society- that's the problem.
Cops' powers and income inequality. Cops can get away killing people who are poor or don't really "contribute" to society, where it be black or white. I hear news all the time about cops killing white homeless people or drug addicts. No one does anything, because people don't seem to care about these people. They probably think Cops are doing a good job getting rid of these people.
The previous poster said "society doesn't care about black people" implying that because these people are black that's why no one's doing anything. I think it has less to do with race than it has to do with most of those people are poor. I really doubt cops could go around killing black people that are contributing a lot the society. If they do the same thing in San Fransisco, killing black people that have important positions in the big tech companies or start up companies, don't you think corporations would be pissed off and some sort of amendment would take place.
Right now you have all sort of people (all ethnicities) that are protesting peacefully for the sake of blacks.
Cops have too much power. . No one wants to get in their way though. No one wants to directly oppose them. I'm not exactly sure why.
Obama tried to change that by mandating body cameras
But if they are killing off homeless people, who on welfare have a mental disability, people who are poor and not contributing to society, then people who well off have a tendency, "well those people are drug addicts or failures" so we will believe whatever the cops say.
People on welfare, disability (only $1100 a month), or just poor people are not respected in America by a lot of people and cops have too much power.
