Vita 2000 Unboxing and Hands-On Videos

My wish is that by the time a Vita-3000 is needed, OLED will be cheaper so they could implement it again. Once you go OLED, you can't go back. I can't go back!

If I'd never seen the OLED Vita, I'd say the new one looks great. Now I'm thinking I should buy a 2nd vita-1000 just in case something happens to mine.

Here's to hoping for an OLED 3000

OLED 3000 must happen. Thinking about buying a 2 year warranty extension for my Vita. I can't have mine dying on me due to a touch screen going whack for no reason.

Lost the contrast/color of the OLED :(

It's pointless to compare OLED to LCD via video. You need to see them in person. The contrast difference is limited by the contrast of the monitor you are looking at right now, which is likely LCD.

Ignore the different background colours, just focus on the icons...the screen looks washed out and lower contrast. No more deep blacks.

Might just go buy another OLED Vita in here in the Americas before the 2000 comes out. Just in case my original Vita dies sometime.

There's no way, no matter what Sony says, that this isn't a cost-savings/profit-margin move.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but how can we get an accurate idea of what the two screens look like if we're browsing them ourselves through a PC monitor which isn't OLED?

Yoshida said in am interview that the original OLED Vita is still in production, as that will be the only 3G model. The 2000 is Wi-Fi only.

One more comparison shot:

Mind you I'm picking points where the difference is quite obvious. At times the difference isn't as pronounced (though still clear).

The colour temperatures looks a little different, which is something that always happens with different screens.
But otherwise, I think the new one looks just fine.

Viewing through your monitor won't show the objective qualities of the two displays, but it can give you a reasonably accurate comparative representation as both screens were being played in the same conditions (i.e. same lighting, same recording equipment, same angle to camera, etc).

Please please please please let some decent tech site get one so they can review the screen themselves so we don't get more forum posters trying to analyze based on shitty screenshots. This is getting unbearable.

They aren't screenshots, they're comprehensive videos (more than 60 minutes of video). It's still not perfect, but videos are far harder to game as angles and brightness settings are adjusted in front of your eyes and cannot be used to deceive.

The OLED is definitely better, but I'll be honest, dudes, if they weren't being shown next to each other I don't know if I would have cared. It looks fine.

I'm no tech site by I hold to have my 2000s on Friday. I can at least compare them as another opinion.

I'll be honest I am not expecting great things from the LCD anyways.

As expected, image quality looks like shit compared to OLED. I hope this piece of trash device doesn't come to the States.

Honestly, that burn in on the OLED would make me never want to play it ever. But slightly washed out colors (allegedly) would not.

If I sell my OG Vita for $180 with assassin's creed and resistance how many people do you think would be interested?

As much as I want to love it, I just dont care for it. It's like new and I want the ds xl for pokemon this weekend anyway

I love how everyone wants to buy a back up OLED vita. No thanks. If mine breaks I will buy the new model. It will suck having a screen downgrade but i'm not about to waste money buying a back up I most likely won't need.

Right. No one has ever stated that LCD looked better, I don't know why people are assuming that. What is better is the durability and brightness. I loved my OLED but when I got "burn-in" that completely turned me off of the technology. Not only that but I started to noticed the flaws other than image-retention. Things like blobs, clouding, lines, and mura are just too much for me. This needs to be sorted before mass production.

Sony stated that they were going after more natural colors with this screen anyway. And maybe they well allow for different presets.

We can tell that they're different, and that's pretty much it. Some of the hyperbole in this thread is hilarious though.

Day 1 buy, don't even care about OLED after seeing the many OLED burn in threads. Hell that LCD screen alone looks better than the numerous handhelds/phones out today.

Do any tablets / phones use OLED? If this screen is the same caliber as my Nexus 7 or an iPhone, then this probably won't bother me that much.

This is interesting...was flicking through the manual and noticed that the back cover is removable and you can replace the battery.
