VITA Newb/N00b Q&A

Settings/Playstation Network/Account Information/Panel

Go here and download the Mac Content Manager. Plug your Vita into your computer. The Content Manager app on your Vita will begin bouncing. You then transfer to and from your computer from the Vita.

Thanks! I was probably looking at older websites that mentioned that it wasn't supported at launch. For some reason I hoped that I could just mount it as a flashdrive like the PSP.

Just spoke to Dorfdad. He was really friendly.

I also discovered, sadly, that the iPhone headsets don't work with the mic. A real shame. Had to yank it in order to talk to him.

This thing has free Xbox-style party chat, it's sorta crazy!

Is there anywhere where you can find a players met option. I wanna message some of the randoms I have played in UMvC3 but can't find a option. I know you can because someone did it to me.

Are all the psp games on the Vita PS Store compatible?

HEre in Australia every single PSP game ever released on the store is up on our Vita store.. I noticed this isn't the same for America so was just wondering if this means that some won't work or not

Here's a dumb question - I keep seeing people talking about lock screens.

What the hell is a lock screen? You can lock your Vita like a phone?

THere is an option somewhere in the settings that allows you to put a pin number in for unlocking the screen. Once set you just have to tap the power button to switch the screen off. Next time you press the power or home button, swipe away the time/date and then you'll be prompted for a pin. Good idea incase your Vita gets stolen and has all your info/Near location stored etc.

1. How to take in game screen captures.
5. Can't update firmware at start up with PSN account.
12. How do I delete unwanted bubbles and game demos?
1: http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/psvita/basic/capture.html
Basically, PS button + Start.

5. You have to say 'I don't have an account', then once within the system menu, do the update through the options menu. After updating, you'll be able to do the whole account thing through the store.

12. On the main menu, press down for a second or two. The bubbles will sort of move back a bit and a 'grid' will appear. From here, you can move around the bubbles, add and delete screens, change background colors, and delete bubbles (and the data associated with them) by pressing the little X icon on them.

Where are the save files located for Vita games? Are they embedded within the bubbles?

What if I want to get rid of a bubble (let's say, Uncharted after I beat it), if I get rid of the bubble what goes with it?

Oh near isn't like streetpass? I just assumed it was cause so many people talked about it, but maybe you just have to have the 3G unit?

Near works with the WiFi unit as well.
But apparently, the app doesn't work for some people after the firmware update.

So I would imagine (and hope) that Sony fixes it with a coming update. :)

That's actually a great question, I would like answered as well.

Do you need to be online though for Near to work?

I'd like to know this, along with if I can use the same save file from a retail game on a digitally downloaded title. I know it probably depends, but how would you tell which uses the game cart's memory and which uses the memory stick's memory?

Q. How Do I access Filter and color settings for PSP games? (While in a PSP game press anywhere on the screen for about 3 seconds. A menu will pop up)

In addition to this, what does the option "Color Space (PSP System)" do?

Edit: Never mind.
A minute of Googling it, and I already found the answer :P

Color Space (PSP™ System)
The screen of your PS Vita system uses organic EL technology, so its color space differs from the color space of the PSP™ system, which uses a liquid crystal screen. Enabling this function makes the color space of your PS Vita system more like that of a liquid crystal screen, so you can enjoy more original color.

maybe a tutorial on how downloading unlocked demos/apps from other stores and then use them on your accound , for example netflix or gravity daze demo

Yes, saves are embedded within the bubbles. If you want to back up your saves you need to back up the whole application (in case of PSN version). Most likely another anti-piracy measure, seeing as first major PSP exploit was due to save game in Lumines.

Yes and no. I have been able to use it offline as well. I could update my location but not submit however but at home it remembered my update. What IS needed however is a Wi-Fi radio in the vicinity that is mapped by Sony's provider. (Skyhook in this case?)

I have a 4GB card.

I want to get a 32GB Card.

How an i copy the contents of the 4GB Card onto the 32GB card so i move all my save files/demos onto the new, larger card?

Backup everything in the 4GB card to a PS3 or a PC using Content Manager Assistant. Then restore it onto the 32GB card.

Can someone explain exactly how the whole region free/lack of region free works? Can I play Japanese games on the same card as my US games without getting DLC for the Japanese ones? If I want DLC, does that mean I need another memory card? It's confusing...
This question also needs to be expanded somewhat.

Game demos (like the english Gravity Daze demo off the HK Store) can be accessed from multiple accounts on the Vita provided they're downloaded/transferred to the system on the account that acquired them. In other words, once you reset your system and switch back to your MAIN account, you'll still be able to access those demos from it.

But does the above also work for games? In other words, if someone purchased unique content from the UK Store such as MotorStorm RC (not out in NA for two weeks), the polish-developed A-Men or the deplorable Ridge Racer, downloaded it to the Vita on the purchasing account and then did a reset to get their primary account back on the system, would they then be able to access those games on their main account for the purpose of earning trophies?

No. That's the major difference between PS3 and Vita when it comes to regions. And it sucks.

afaik, full games need the account that bought it for it to play

Feeling like I should cave now and get one. I figured because I got a launch model for the 3DS, why not the same for the Vita?

I'm thinking of the Wi-fi model and getting Uncharted: Golden Abyss. What else do I need? Are digital releases any cheaper than physical?

So, let's say I have Little Deviants on a game card and then install it on my PS Vita, but after some time I erase it. Will I have to back up the whole bubble through Content Manager to my Macbook before erasing?

Another question is, I have a 8GB memory card right now, and have a 32GB one on the way. When I have transfered all my content to the 32GB card, can I then use the 8GB for Japanese content from my Japanese PSN account? Or can I use all my accounts for a single memory card?

Above all, you need a memory card. The other things you need are Wipeout and HSG. And then you don't really need Uncharted :P

But to answer your other question seriously, most digital releases are 10% off the MSRP. Which is technically cheaper, but usually more expensive than if you go bargain hunting at retail.

afa downloading, it's very easy. all it requires is that you restore your vita:

1. Go into settings>format>restore the PS Vita system
2. Click "restore"
3. It will ask you if you want to deactivate your vita from your current psn account (doesn't matter)
4. Then it will ask you if you want to close all applications and continue (yes)
5. It will ask you if you want to delete the system memory and restore the vita (yes)
6. Now it will ask if you want to format your memory card (NO)
7. It will take about 20 seconds and reboot

& then, on rebooting, sign on with whatever account you want to use, go to the store, & download. then repeat the above, sign on with your original account, &, if the demos/apps are truly unlocked, you're good to go...

I moved over a year ago but when I go to locate myself to see if anyone has one of these around my new house (46 miles away from my old one) it points me to the old house. No idea what's going on.

Hold finger on screen, tough small info button on bubbles to delete.

Yes, but all pre-loaded applications seems to be locked, there is no selection of "delete" when I press the bubbles. Like the AT&T offer bubble, for exemple. I wanted to get rid of some unwanted apps, but it seems that they are locked.

Most? Not all?

What type of memory card should I get? I love physical over digital, but Sony fucked me hard with the lack of physical PSP games not working for Vita. I mean sure, I can still use my PSP, but what if Sony makes another portable with no backwards compatibility? More of this?

I put some awesome art on the lock screen, and I was just wondering there is a button or a touch gesture that will activate the lock screen, or if the only way to see it is to let the system idle for a certain amount of time. Not really a big deal, just curious.

You can just put it immediately to sleep by pressing the upper power button just once, and wake it again by a second pressing.

No, some publishers are fuckwads.

Well, if you care about future BC then digital is probably the better choice. If so, it would make sense to get the largest card you can afford.

Someone traded me an item on the black market for Uncharted through Near. It's the first discovery I've made on Near.

How do I find more/leave items for other people to find?

Considering getting a Vita 3G next month and I have a couple of questions.

How good is Skype on it? Decent sound quality in general?

Also, can you share the Vita's 3G? For example could I tether a laptop to it if I really needed to?

My Girlfriend's mobile internet contract runs out next month. If she renews it with her current provider they'll give her a 4gb 360 for 1 Polish Zloty (It's the same company that I have a contract with and gave me a Wii for 1zl in December.) But if she switches provider she can get a Vita 3G from a rival provider for 1zl and pay about the same per month.

You can play imported physical cards on your main US account. Simple use the cardrige.
However, online pass and DLC for imported games do not work with your US account. Keep that in mind when importing your games.
To use a imported online pass, get DLC, demos, etc from a different region, you have to created accounts for those regions.
To switch between regions you do not need a second memory card, just do the following:
1) connect your vita to PC or PS3.
2) in content manager, choose "backup" to save all your US account stuff to PC/PS3.
3) in system options -> Playstation Network -> System Deactivate, choose to deactivate your device in both options.
4) in system options -> Playstation Network, choose "reset your device". It will make your Vita goes the the initial state, everything is cleaned, and next time you boot the device it will prompt you to add a PSN account. Unplug vita from PC/PS3.
5) use that other region PSN to log in Vita, you will be able to get/use everything in that account. NOTE: trophies earned in this account will not count towards your main account.
6) when you are ready to go back to your main account, just connect the vita to the PC/PS3 where you made the backup and on content manager, select "restore". No need set your main PSN account stuff, a restore put the vita in the state it was when the backup was created. Note: if you want to keep some stuff in your other region account, make a backup of that PSN account first.

Note: it seems that demos can be shared between the accounts. When using your other region account, connect vita to PC/PS3 and on content manager just select "transfer from Vita to PC/PS3" and select the individual demo you want to share. After you restore your main account, go back to content manager and select "transfer from PC/PS3 to vita" and select the individual demo file to transfer it back to vita.

But this process is quite a pain since a backup/restore can take from 20 minutes to 1 hour depending in the ammount of things you have, and you cannot do anything else with the vita while in the process.
