Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

Sony should announce a Vita 3D. There's a gap in the marketplace now.

If anything Sony needs a cheaper Vita. GAF insiders have already said it is coming in 2014, but perhaps the 2DS will push them to unveil it sooner.

Edit: Top of the page! Get Dragon's Crown and get your wallets ready for Killzone Mercs and Rayman Legends.

I'm planing on buying my very own Vita soon and I just had some questions

Should I be worried about dead pixels?
What's a good case to protect my Vita?
I HATE scratches, is the Vita prone to scratches or any type of damage?

I'm probably going to get that Walking Dead bundle first and then buy a 32gb memory card.

Well, I can answer two of these from my own experience.

Should I be worried about dead pixels?

A lot of people claim dead pixels are not an issue for OLEDs, but it can happen.

I picked up another Vita when EB Games had a sale on them back in February. This Vita displayed a single red dead pixel after a week of moderate usage. I received an exchange, but this one also had dead pixel after (ironically) a week of usage.

My third and current Vita has not displayed any dead pixels after nearly 7 months of heavy of usage. Additional, the Vita I got at the original launch has no dead pixels, so I am lead to believe I was unlucky with the two other Vitas or it may have been a bad batch of OLEDs. Regardless, I don't hear many other people complaining about it, so it's not a common issue.

I HATE scratches in my screens, is the Vita prone to scratches?

My Vita has no visible scratches under natural light, but it does have some very faint micro-scratches (like only 3) on the bottom right hand side of the touch screen from my thumb's nail (thanks Project Diva). I have to angle my Vita very specifically and under intense light to see them.

Because I know I can swipe quite hard and my nails were long at one stage, I take this more as a testament that the Vita is actually quite hard to scratch.

I can only speak from personal experience.

No dead pixels here. Did have one on my 3000 though. =(

I use the travel pouch, not a fan of hard cases after using them for psp. Just don't like the feel of them. The official pouch is 10 bucks on amazon atm. The inside is nice and soft to keep the screen protected from scratches.

No scratches here and I don't use any screen protector or anything. You should have/get a good microfiber cloth though. The screen is prone to smudges so clean it front and back every once in a while

Any device using LCD/OLED screen can have dead pixels. But i don't think any vita gaffers ever reported one but sample size is quite small.

As for protection get hori screen filter for screen since it covers most of front of whole Vita
and there are also protectors for rear touch panel.

Case i don't know i never use one :D

Just finished Momohime's story for the first time in Muramasa. Going to take a break before I start Kisuke's story. Good game, but you start to grow tired of it after a while. Combat is fun, but that's all the game is.

Nothing is sticking out. Although my screen isn't flashing on for notifications while it's supposed to be in sleep mode any more.

you screen would turn on for notifications when in sleep mode?

Mine doesn't. You know you can choose what happens for notifications in the settings right? I just have the blue ps button flash or something.

How many levels are there in the Spelunky demo? I haven't made it past stage 1-2 yet, I'm thinking I might not need to get the whole game anyway at this rate.. :)

Ouch that seems reallyreally bad

Yep.

The worse thing is, I personally know many of my Vita club members that got screwed real hard over this, since well, they don't have any way to actually make use of the exchange program considering where we live.

They already paid premium price, and then got hit by something like this. They got screwed real, real bad.

I am actually affected. Guess I am getting a new copy of the game.

Yep.

Is there no Sony Customer Service centre where you live?

Buy a faceplate if you don't want a huge scratches suddenly appeared on your screen. Mine just....scratched by somethin out of nowhere in my bag.
Yep.

Oh man, this is bad, REAL bad for them :(
This is exactly why I prefer games from Region 1 over Region 3 :(

No, Indonesia doesn't have one. Understandable, considering the level of software piracy in here in general. We have Sony Electronics, yes, but they don't accept anything related to gaming like Vita.

Which means my friends are getting screwed real bad over this.

We do have official service center, but they just accept hardware services, not software. Software related problem pretty much mean we are in a world of trouble since we don't have any fuck*n official game retailer here. Mostly our access to original video game is from (mass) importer right? :(

Where, in Jakarta?

Because the one in Bandung did not want to accept my 1st Vita that got busted battery. And the store folks said to me that, yeah, in case of broken hardware I actually need to have my broken Vita shipped to Singapore.

As far as I know the official service center is for Sony Electronics: TVs and stuff, and not Sony Entertainment.

Well, we'll know soon enough when they announce the details of the exchange program. The best thing to do is to send them an email to see whether a solution can be worked out (by maybe mailing them the game for example.)

The rumor I heard actually that even Sony official service center pretty much just send broken console game unit to local shop that usually manually handle these problem. So yeah, I was wrong about that one :(

Yeah, trying to contacted is the better option. If they being generous, perhaps they will replace it for you at no extra cost and free shipping.

There is a workaround, sort of.
If you have a Vita community going on where you live, I suggest import one copy of R1 Dragon's Crown (share the cost), you can pop in the R1 into your Vita, it will recognize your local R3 save data, connect to PSN and update to 1.01 patch, after you finish installing the new patch, pop back in your R3 to play the game. This way you can update to the latest version, that's how I did anyway.

Good luck!

ugh, lack of games for the vita is killing me. aside fromckillzone and tearaway i dont know of any aaaa games coming out

"Aside from Killzone and Tearaway"? Please be ironic.

Yeah, quadruple A games are my favourite.

Sony should release some quintuple A games though.

Now, now, come on dudes, don't fight.

Lack of AAA games *is* a legitimate concern for Vita for those who enjoy those kind of games, in my opinion, but persons enjoying those kind of games should also check out various other stuff like indie offerings and expand their horizon. Lots of good stuff too outside AAA games.

I am not affected by this, fortunately, since I bought the digital version from US PSN.

Yeah, this seems to be the only workaround possible for my friends at this moment. They're salty as fuck though having required to actually buy another R1 copy to fix this.

Infamous vita? What did he exactly say?
I was wondering for quite some time why there hasn't been a Infamous Vita announcement. Sony clearly thinks of it as one of their key franchises and the Vita is lacking in open world and third person shooter/action games.

But then, there aren't just any big announcements at all from Sony for the Vita. Even those big franchises that make sense are missing like Gran Turismo.

My wish for Infamous Vita would be a female protagonist, infamous: First Daughter.

I would totally buy it!
I still want saints row and fallout though.

The joke here is that those two games could very well be the best "AAA" exclusives on any current gen platform in that time period, so "just..." seems a bit ridiculous and fed by that "where are the gameeeez" sentiment. Not to mention that "AAA" and "Indie" arent that far apart on Vita/Handhelds especially, so that people still focus so hard on that distinction baffles me.

Edit: Not to mention Dragons Crown and Rayman Legends for the same time period as far as high budget releases go.

Personally, the more time I put into the vita, the less I seem to care about AAA titles.

I've got a LOT of really good titles that I want to get through sat on the HD of my PS3 but I keep going for the vita.

The key word here is "personally"... That pick-up 'n' play ethos fits with my lifestyle much more than the constant hours I need to sink into console titles.

Each to their own... I get that people want headshots and explosions... I hope they get them too.

Tell them to think of it as if they're giving Vanillaware extra support for an awesome game!

Actually, this year's holiday is pretty good for AAA games (not exclusive games, mind you):

FM 2014, Borderlands, GoW Collection, Invizimals, FIFA 14, Killzone, Tearaway, Batman.

The problem is the lack of anything announced for 2014.

PS4 remote play and Vita has my really excited. That feature alone makes me glad I bought the system, and is really pushing me towards buying a lot of those indie games that I would normally pick up on Steam on PS4.

And how the hell do i turn off the friend online notification? It doesn't turn it off when i go in to settings > notifications > friends online status > and un-check all the boxes - it keeps on doing it!!

You mean other than disgaea 4, daganronpa, sorcery saga, demon gaze, freedom wars and so on?

We even have a 2015 title(project phoenix)!

Forgot about the Aksys and Xseed announcements (seemingly Sony did too because they've never even mentioned them). Freedom Wars hasn't been confirmed for the west yet. What's project phoenix? I never heard of it...
