So much truth to this, it's not even funny!

I must admit I was really anxious when this KICKSTATER started. A lot of people had advised me against doing it. But we found ourselves incapable of having our series on a lot of countries' networks. “Too violent,” “too naked,” “too serialized,” “not our target demographic”... We met with every possible comment and started slowly giving up... We could have let the matter rest and went on with some other project, but nothing is worse to a father than seeing his baby given the cold shoulder by the rest of the world. What, exactly, was little WAKFU's problem? Not good-looking enough? Not clever enough? I know that it's my baby and I'm partial, but still... Why were so few people willing to give it a chance? The series was a huge hit in France, why wouldn't it agree with viewers the world over? Don't we, as humans, feel the same things? We find it hard to believe that’s not the case…

...

]The last stumbling block comes from the fact that channels are looking for more and more “kid-friendly” serials, and most important, they have to be able to play around with their planning. Finding a show's best broadcast slot is an art in and of itself, and it is way more complicated to do with serials. In this way, “animated serials” don't really have a future. I know how sad that sounds, but it's the truth. We've already had an outstanding luck doing WAKFU the way we did.

Damn it Kickstarter, process my payment info already!

Is this revenge for posting the duck?

I ran into that issue. I was running firefox with the noscript plugin. I had to temporarily allow all scripts on the page several times before my payment was processed. Turns out it was the very last script to allow that was the one I needed.

I'll be damned, that was the issue. Thanks!

I was trying it on a computer that wasn't mine, so I didn't think to check noscript.

Even Toonami and Adult Swim wont pick it up?
Toonami handles most late-night animation that's not western these days. If they're not picking it up, I can only imagine that it's because adding it would mean removing one of their current shows that they already air, or they don't have much faith in something that's not from America or Japan. (Which would be a damn shame if true.)

Some have wondered if Netflix would be a possible option, but I don't know enough to comment on that.

Anyway, we're up to $170,000 now, and I've decided to pretty up the OP a bit to give a better idea of what the pledges and goals are, as well as some more pictures and videos to give a better idea of what the show looks like.

Seems like season 2 is a sure deal now we just need to aim for 300 to get those OVAs.

Someone made a post about the Kickstarter on the Wakfu MMO forums and the people still posting there seem to have evolved into some kind of hate-based lifeforms. I don't think I've ever seen a group so pessimistic about a piece of media.

Really glad the Kickstarter is doing well! Been looking forward to experiencing the series for the first time.

Hoping there aren't too many more Season 2-focused updates--it's hard to avoid those. Major spoilers aren't exactly the best way to entice a new audience.

Seriously.

It's incredibly annoying to have season 2 teases and character art posted when I haven't even been able to experience the first season.

Went ahead and updated with the most recent pledge tier. They're now offering all nine art books with a $300 pledge, but supplies are limited.

I think we should have season 2 wrapped up by the end of Friday, after which it may be a slog towards the OVAs, but we'll see what happens.

They added the Noximillien artbook as an add-on. And they introduced a new stretchgoal: if we make it to 250k they'll dub and include Mini-Wakfu (a series of animated shorts w/ chibi Wakfu characters) to all pledges that get Blu-Ray rewards.

Er, you know you won't be getting the Blu-rays with that pledge, right?

Yeah, just discovered that recently. They even updated the pledge to make it clearer.

Hey OP, any chance you can have the title changed to include more information about what Wakfu actually is(e.g. "Epic French anime-inspired TV series")?

I've had people become interested since telling them about the show and showing them the KS trailer, but many people have still never heard of it before.

Sure, just never changed a title before. Do I just contact any mod and ask, "Hey, can you change this title to etc etc"?

Damn, I wanted to curb my Blu Ray spending this month, but $40 for the two seasons on Blu, plus a T-shirt might be too good a deal to pass on.

I might have to pledge on this.

By the way, Ankama never updated the FAQ, did they ever say if the show is 1080p?

Last we heard from them on the matter was that they were still looking into making sure 1080p is possible. The fact that the show is done in 25fps apparently is in issue they need to address.

At that FPS, 1080p isn't a problem for DDL but apparently Blu-Ray format doesn't support it?

I really want to donate since I have a bit of extra cash right now but they're not taking Paypal or Interac :(

I guess I could go out tomorrow and pick up a prepaid card?

Wait I remember that artwork for the video game cover, I was some what interested in this title at some point. Why didn't I pick it up? I guess cause it was a MMORPG and it was in that weird teaving period for them were everything needed a website, login details and pay to play and shit like that.

Never heard about the Anime. Is it any good? Also I assume if you back for the bluray you will get Season 2 as well now it hit the streach goal for it?

Pretty good. When I want to describe the show to someone, I usually go with 'It's like The Slayers, but French". It's a quest-driven action-adventure show with copious amounts of comedy, tragedy and drama mixed together and starring a group of personified character classes who band together to aid and protect one another as they journey through a rich fantasy world.

I watched the first episode through a tip on this page. It reminds me of a French Naruto in some ways.

If I'm super picky about how female characters are portrayed, how will I like this? An example of female characters in a kid's cartoon done right would be Avatar: The Last Airbender. No weird hyper-sexualization of under age girls, roles beyond being just a love interest, that sort of thing.

There are two major female characters. One fits the classic spoiled princess character role, and the other is her serious bodyguard and friend. They are both extremely competent fighters and are easily as important to the story as the rest of the party (except Yugo, but he's clearly the focus character).

As for sexualisation, take a look at the character designs and see what you think. It's more sexualised than Avatar, but it's still a children's show.

So, latest update has a bit of sour (but understandable) news. Since they're dubbing season 2, the pledges with Blu-Rays are being pushed back to June of 2014. They're also going to provide more info on the locked pledges in the future, so I don't think it's dependent on how much has been donated.

What?! Two whole months? But they were supposed to dub both seasons AND all the special content AND print and ship the Blu-rays and rewards by APRIL!
I'm withdrawing my pledge RIGHT NOW!

I'm really tempted to add a Tofurby plush to my pledge. Anything special about them, or are they just background enemies?

I expected a much further delay, honestly (maybe around Fall?). But thinking about it, they may have already started the dub, or they need at least a month worth to get a proper cast or something before the dubbing process begins.

I'm not sure how it works exactly, but better to delay it and provide a high quality dub than none at all.
