I must admit I was really anxious when this KICKSTATER started. A lot of people had advised me against doing it. But we found ourselves incapable of having our series on a lot of countries' networks. “Too violent,” “too naked,” “too serialized,” “not our target demographic”... We met with every possible comment and started slowly giving up... We could have let the matter rest and went on with some other project, but nothing is worse to a father than seeing his baby given the cold shoulder by the rest of the world. What, exactly, was little WAKFU's problem? Not good-looking enough? Not clever enough? I know that it's my baby and I'm partial, but still... Why were so few people willing to give it a chance? The series was a huge hit in France, why wouldn't it agree with viewers the world over? Don't we, as humans, feel the same things? We find it hard to believe that’s not the case…
...
]The last stumbling block comes from the fact that channels are looking for more and more “kid-friendly” serials, and most important, they have to be able to play around with their planning. Finding a show's best broadcast slot is an art in and of itself, and it is way more complicated to do with serials. In this way, “animated serials” don't really have a future. I know how sad that sounds, but it's the truth. We've already had an outstanding luck doing WAKFU the way we did.
Damn it Kickstarter, process my payment info already!
Is this revenge for posting the duck?
I'll be damned, that was the issue. Thanks!I ran into that issue. I was running firefox with the noscript plugin. I had to temporarily allow all scripts on the page several times before my payment was processed. Turns out it was the very last script to allow that was the one I needed.
Toonami handles most late-night animation that's not western these days. If they're not picking it up, I can only imagine that it's because adding it would mean removing one of their current shows that they already air, or they don't have much faith in something that's not from America or Japan. (Which would be a damn shame if true.)Even Toonami and Adult Swim wont pick it up?
Really glad the Kickstarter is doing well! Been looking forward to experiencing the series for the first time.
Hoping there aren't too many more Season 2-focused updates--it's hard to avoid those. Major spoilers aren't exactly the best way to entice a new audience.
Even Toonami and Adult Swim wont pick it up?
Went ahead and updated with the most recent pledge tier. They're now offering all nine art books with a $300 pledge, but supplies are limited.
I think we should have season 2 wrapped up by the end of Friday, after which it may be a slog towards the OVAs, but we'll see what happens.
They added the Noximillien artbook as an add-on. And they introduced a new stretchgoal: if we make it to 250k they'll dub and include Mini-Wakfu (a series of animated shorts w/ chibi Wakfu characters) to all pledges that get Blu-Ray rewards.
Er, you know you won't be getting the Blu-rays with that pledge, right?
The pictures they put in the Mini-Wakfu update are mad-adorable.

Sure, just never changed a title before. Do I just contact any mod and ask, "Hey, can you change this title to etc etc"?Hey OP, any chance you can have the title changed to include more information about what Wakfu actually is(e.g. "Epic French anime-inspired TV series")?
I've had people become interested since telling them about the show and showing them the KS trailer, but many people have still never heard of it before.

That sounds about right.
Cool, how about "France's answer to The Last Airbender"?
Is there a place where I can watch the show with English subs?
The Blu-rays, silly! Now pledge more.![]()
By the way, Ankama never updated the FAQ, did they ever say if the show is 1080p?
Is there a place where I can watch the show with English subs?
oh, I remember that gif
Never heard about the Anime. Is it any good?
I watched the first episode through a tip on this page. It reminds me of a French Naruto in some ways.Pretty good. When I want to describe the show to someone, I usually go with 'It's like The Slayers, but French". It's a quest-driven action-adventure show with copious amounts of comedy, tragedy and drama mixed together and starring a group of personified character classes who band together to aid and protect one another as they journey through a rich fantasy world.
The cartoon is phenomenally good.
Season 2 will be included in the blu ray for backers.
Just to be clear. A $40 CAD pledge will get me both Seasons 1 & 2 on blu ray?
If I'm super picky about how female characters are portrayed, how will I like this? An example of female characters in a kid's cartoon done right would be Avatar: The Last Airbender. No weird hyper-sexualization of under age girls, roles beyond being just a love interest, that sort of thing.
So, latest update has a bit of sour (but understandable) news. Since they're dubbing season 2, the pledges with Blu-Rays are being pushed back to June of 2014. They're also going to provide more info on the locked pledges in the future, so I don't think it's dependent on how much has been donated.
