Want to be LTTP: Battlefield 2 PC

As big of a Battlefield fan as I am, I never actually played Battlefield 2. Would it be worth picking up on Steam? Do people still play it? and is Project: Reality any good?

Damn, you missed quite the Steam sale during E3 week.

I re-bought it during that sale, but outside of shooting my brother over LAN I haven´t dared to play. The people still playing must be really hardcore.

Yeah lots of people still play it, and as a new player you'll probably have more fun with Project Reality as it gives you a better chance.

You'll just get owned at BF2 at this point, it's all mostly hardcore people and great players playing now.

I went back to BF2 lately and there are still quite a lot of people playing. And those that play know the game inside out. Still great fun if you have friends playing with you, or join a squad and get great teamwork going.

One thing to note is that the recoil on the guns is pretty significant over the bad company series and took me a while getting readjusted after not playing BF2 for so long.

Just bought it :D

Enjoy! The game is quite a bit different than Bad Company. Let us know if you have any questions.

Some tips: Join up in a squad.
Prone when you engage in firefights (most of the time).
Use the command rose (q button to issue orders and request stuff).

I played the shit out of both 1942 and Vietnam, if I played those will I feel right at home? Or is it different even from those two games?

Yes, people probably still play BF2, if not for Project Reality.

I'm curious how the player count is for 1942->BF2142 before BC1 release is now.

Surprised to see how good it holds up visually.

And coming from BC2 the environments are fucken huge. Somewhere along the way I had convinced myself that BC2's maps were of a decent size. But holy shit was I wrong.

Shooting feels way different though. I use to be really good at BF2 and now I can barely hit anything. Just have to get use to it.

You'll be right at home then! : D

Well fuck. I changed my game resolution to 1366 x 768 and now the game is always minimized. I can hear the sound but no images. if i try to maximize it, it goes to a black screen and then back to my desktop after a few seconds.

Edit the config file?

Yeah Project Reality is awesome.

If you played BF1942, you'll probably hate BF2.

Most BF2 fans never played the original, so they have lower standards thanks to not experiencing the greatest MP FPS ever made.

Avoid BF2 at all costs and hope that DICE finally get their shit together and BF3 turns out alright.

I've never played any Battlefields before BC. Are the single players just a bunch of bots on the multiplayer maps or is it a real campaign ala COD, MoH, etc. I know no one buys Battlefield for the SP, I'm just curious.

Single player are just bots on multiplayer maps.

BF2 is pretty dated compared to recent FPSes. Most of the servers are (annoyingly) set to infantry only and there is a TON of grenade spam.

Ok, found the config file, got the game to run at 800 x 600 everything worked fine until it said "Connecting to account server" or something like that (I was selecting my profile after the EA games screen) and now its minimizing to the desktop again.

It's not the recoil that's a problem. It's the cone of fire.

Pretty retarted that I can't run a game this old on anything higher than low settings in 800 x 600 on a fucking Alienware all because the stupid game crashes if I run it in anything higher than that.

And even with these low settings the game crashes every time I try to connect to online. what a fucking waste of 20 bucks

Lol, did you check why it's crashing? I've never had problems on all of the modern high end rigs I played it on

I found my DVD for BF2 yesterday. It was one of the first games to come on DVD (UT2k4 is another early one I remember). I'll sell it to you for $249 US

ok so im an idiot and didnt actually make an online profile, so that made connecting to online a problem.

Played single player, got old war flashbacks of 1942, felt good man.

Still sucks that i have to play in 800 x 600 with everything set to low

I think the game has aged pretty terribly. I wish I could time machine back to 2005 when I could overlook the issues and was really blown away by it.

Been messing around in single player while I wait for Project Reality to download.

cot damn. 63 bots in a map meant for 16 people is fucking insane. Its a shame you cant use the bigger maps with bots though..

This. I bought the game on the last steam sale and regretted every cent of it.

You're out of your fucking mind.

By your standards, people should avoid everything post BFV. Let's be honest, BC2 is not a very good BF game.
