I agree, this is why I think its funny that everyone talks about console players not having enough skill to use KB+Mouse. It genuinely takes more "skill" to aim on a console controller. on xbox/ps3 where everyone is forced to use the same input device, the player with the most skill will still prevail.
you're still free to go play q3 online now with a bunch of other wallhacking 1337 5K1LLZzzz nerds if you would like. newer fps games are based more on movement and tactics than pure aiming skill, one is not inherently worse than the other.
when did i say that? I said in the newer fps games movement and tactics are more important than aiming.
leave it to PC gamers to get all defensive and refuse to understand any reasoning contrary to their own.

Even when I'm not gaming, my left hand rests at WASD.

I've been dinged at work for this because my hands naturally sit like that so people think I'm playing games.Even when I'm not gaming, my left hand rests at WASD.
ESDF or ZERG.
WASD is old fashioned propaganda.
WERD or ESDF
WASD is a horrible relic of an ancient era
I find WASD terrible. But what's worse is trying to use the F or G keys for things like melee and grenades. And then trying to put crouch on the X, C, or Shift key? Forget it, I'm plugging in a controller and never looking back.
you are mad about that but what about stuff like aiming, jumping and shooting at the same time on a controller?

in games like COD on console where aiming is less of an issue, the main goal is to outmaneuver and outflank the other team and get to a spot where you can kill them easily. does this not count as movement and tactics?
Late, but whatever...

Arena shooters needed movement, strategy, map control and amazing aiming skill.

i love my merc stealth
I can't really stand WASD anymore for movement, it really feels terrible.
Yep. I still prefer mouse for looking by a long shot but WASD now feels off to me. The only advantage it really has over an analogue stick is that it's way more precise for double tap to dodge but when do we even do that any more?
Can someone explain to me why ESDF is superior?
Imo it's worst because left ctrl is farther away.
uh no my original point was that WASD is only useful for old style games like quake and CS and that analog pad was better for 3rd person games and newer fps games. So you are saying that WASD is bad because it is worse than a stick, but that mouses are bad because they are too easy....
ok.*facepalm
More like leave it to a clueless console gamer to come into a thread, dis good games, complain about one control method but defend another for the same reason!, claim that console FPS take more skill and then wonder why people don't like his posts!
c is superior crouching button bros

I was writing boot disks with custom batch files before you were even gaming. I played all the classic games back then, and now I still prefer hooking the PC up to the tv and using a ps3 controller. I'm old now and I hate using KB+M, I already spend all day using that at work. also many people in here have said that they have difficulty aiming on the controller, so it is in fact a skill.
some people still refuse to admit that an analog stick with unlimited direction options is better than 4 digital buttons.
I do hate using ctrl to crouch, though. I have to kinda stretch my pinky to get it, and often times have to hit it with the nail side of my pinky to reach it at all.

ESDF for the win! It's the home keys. It just feels natural :3
Wasd is for strafing though. You don't need analog for that, it doesn't really add anything.uh no my original point was that WASD is only useful for old style games like quake and CS and that analog pad was better for 3rd person games and newer fps games.

I use double tap in Hawken.
Analog sticks? Those have much better feel. It's hard to replicate good 3d movement with digital input.
Keyboards are simply awful for gaming. It's a shame because mice are great.

I think you misspelt caps lock.lctrl all the way
The fuck. I had a friend in high school that did the same thing. Before WASD was standard, I used to use right mouse button = forward, A=backwards, and Z/X as strafe. Weird, I know
The fantasy that movement on a stick is somehow improved over that of WASD baffles me. Is it more comfortable? Sure, but it doesn't add anything to the gameplay of a shooter that a keyboard can't.
