Wasteland 2: Director's Cut |OT| Post-Apocalyptic, Post-Release Remix

And that's my main issue with combat.
I'm struggling at positioning (more like lazy though) my party into position before engaging the enemies. Most of the times, I just ended up ducking my whole party and start shooting. Positioning them into their sweet spot just take too much time imho.

Going to give you a heads up then: you're going to get mauled in later gunfights. There are ones against large numbers of gunmen where positioning is pretty much the only way to turn the tide (barring the excessive use of consumable explosives). Plus there are some unique variants of enemies later on that will ruin your shit if you group up. Don't want to spoil the fun there :P

Just bougt this for PS4. Don't know why (i wanted to buy it, but later). Problem is that i also just bought Witcher 3 (PS4). I have two month for both till my kid arrives and longer gaming sessions will be reduced quite a lot.

Problem is that i hate not to do all the sidequest so these two games are probably be tough to finish in time (i planned to do UC Coll. 1-3 crushing run inbetween... lol :( )

What is an estimate for a playthrough of Wasteland 2 with most of the quests and sidequests on a moderate difficulty?

Since i was a huuuge fan of Jagged Alliance 2, this game ticked some boxes right when i first saw it (i know, that it's not the same).

According to http://howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=11099

The average is around 60-70 hours.

Lol that's what I feared and expected.
I guess I'll have to deal with it then. Well noted thanks. :D

I'm stuck until they patch the major bugs of the DC. I'm bored. So, I decided to create a new party (again) with unique portraits this time. I've read that we need high Charisma (25, unless they lowered the requirements with a patch?) to recruit every single companion, so I decided to make a new team for that. My leader will take the Radiant Personality perk (question: does it affect only her Charisma, or the whole party's charisma?).
Base charisma: 11.
Charisma boosted (leader only): 19.
Charisma boosted (whole team): 22.
In any cases, my followers will provide the 3-6 charisma points I need to reach 25, and there are also trinkets if need be.

So, lo and behold, this is what my final team will (probably) look like:

GdVEfvj.jpg

Sierra is obviously the leader. She will make a beeline for the Radiant Personality perk (Smart Ass 5 required). I still don't know if I give her Handgun or Submachine Guns at first. I will probably give her Energy Weapons later. Her high Charisma will allow my teams to spread out a little more without having to worry about losing the Leadership buff (and I really dislike my followers going rogue). May have to take the Surgeon skill just so Minwu doesn't end up dead if he is down.

Dying Wolf will be your usual sniper, in charge of Lockpicking and Demolitions.

Milda will be my close ranged fighter, and she has the stats to be very effective at her job (9 action points, 13 combat initiative, 2.6 combat speed). I'm not quite sure which other skills I should give her though. I gave her at least 1 in Field Medic just so she could heal herself easily if she needs to.

Minwu will be the medic of the team, also in charge of Computer Science and Safecracking (he has the Intelligence to take care of both skills).

We really need to take a good look at the perks: some of them are very, very interesting (Leadership perks give an AoE which reduces the accuracy of enemies' attacks, for example, stacking to a maximum of -17%; fighting perks can also be quite brutal if you specialize in one weapon in particular).

I will just rely on Angela and
Vulture
for the Outdoor man skill (at least at first, until I discover a more interesting follower). And I guess I will find someone else with Hard Ass and Brute Force.

By the way, you can find here the list of bugs for the DC version. Yeah, until they patch those, I won't play... Which is annoying, since I really want to play this game now.

Are they any skills that you can safely ignore for a "catch all" playthrough?, or is there a necessary action for every skill in the game?

Mechanical Repair is actually very seldom used in comparison to the other skills. It's still handy, just infrequently.

Surgeon is nice, but so is your quickload button.
Both of these become more important if you play the game without quickloading when something goes wrong, which I do.

Gonna restart this all over as I suddenly started disliking my party's lack of min max craziness. Is there a full perk list somewhere to check?

Didn't say a thing about Mechanics and quickloading. There are just fewer opportunities to use it than say, Demolitions or Lockpicking. Whether people want to abuse quickload to make a 1% roll (who has the time?!) is unrelated.

I think maybe Surgeon is more useful if you don't roll a combat focused party or play on the higher difficulties.

Even the DC version is so glitchy and buggy. I keep getting messages that are meant to trigger before iam starting a mission... and this, then there is this

I feel like some of the skills make absolutely no sense, brute force being the worst offender. Angela is running around with me, and she has rank 3 on brute force

MzJvdTa.png

She has a zero percent chance of breaking the highlighted gate in the picture. Look at the fucking gate, even I could smash it with a couple of kicks. Something like critical failure makes even less sense - if you somehow fail to smash a gate in x seconds, why the hell can't you try again? Does the gate suddenly become unbreakable??

I realize this is a tiny complaint, but it's immersion destroying. Seeing these gates takes me faster out of the game than anything else.

Also, one of the characters included in the pic to point out the fact that they could just vault over the gate if they wanted to

Who beta tests these games lately...dont they hire good old testers anymore...these bugs litterally are known the day the games comes out lol.

On a similar note, the chance of things like Lockpicking seems a bit wrong.

For example, I find a locked container, and my chance of opening it is 10%, now, should you be able to just keep trying to open it until it opens?, because to me, that just makes a bit of a mockery of the whole system, there is no penalty for multiple unlock attempts (no lockpicks to break etc), so why would I pump skill points into a skill when I can just leave it under powered and just do multiple attempts?.

That said, I assume that, later in the game, locks become so hard that you get a 0% chance of opening it?

1% is the lowest if you have any picklock skill, I believe. Yes, you can save scum if you have the patience. Rather just spend some skill points.

You can keep retrying, and even if you manage to critically fail (jamming the lock) you can unjam it with Mechanical Repair. Or just reload from your last quicksave if you're save-scumming. The game doesn't prevent it.

Actually, on that note - if you are considering putting skill points into a skill like lockpicking, I suggest not committing the points when you level up. You can commit them anytime, so just save the points until you come across a lock/trap/alarm/etc that is more difficult. That way you can adjust based on what skill is needed at the time.

you should probably invest a few points in the "jump over a waist-height fence" skill

Looks like my whole party's common sense attribute is at zero

Man, I'm trying to help someone and they just keep trying to kill me lol. I kinda want to just kill them all. Assholes.

Oh god I'm screwed. Every time I try to maneuver myself I take too long or get too close with a character. One or two times I've gotten the first shot. Usually the best I can hope for is I'm close to where I wanted everyone before they spot me.

Any tips for getting into position without being spotted?

Anyway, what's the point of animal herding?
Can I do something to these animals? Sell them or kill them for meat or something?
These goats are just crazy, they're screaming "AAaaaaaAAhh!!" non stop.

Yeah, it's kinda hard to get everyone into the right position before battles. Most of the times, I can only position 2 or 3 of them and get spotted. The best way to do it is positioning them a bit far away from enemies, but it's somewhat useless because the covers are actually close to the enemies position.

It's mostly trial or error as to how close you can get, but make sure to instigate combat yourself by opening fire first.

What I found helped a lot in quite a few fights was to set your party up in a defensible position, then send someone out alone to manually instigate the fight with a single bullet (or conversation) and then immediately fall back to your squad. Most enemies will give chase, or split up to give chase.

Weapons like sniper rifles and rocket propelled grenades can start fights from a hell of distance away.

Thanks for the tips. My sniper in the party is the most useful combat character right now. I apparently did well figuring out her stats and skills for a sniper cause she is very accurate. Way more than my other characters. I think she might be my character with the least amount of skills though.

Decided to do something I usually don't do in RPGs: go nuts.
Killed both of the railroad clans for the heck of it. At least Melissa was happy, so happy she shot herself lol.
Refreshing. Now back to actually helping people!

Just received the game (PS4) and as soon as I pop in the disc, a 4GB patch hits. With my connection it will take 10 hours to download. This gen sucks for those of us with shitty Internet :(

You can still play the game while the patch is downloading. Although patch sizes are getting a bit absurd :P.

Anyone mind telling me where I'm supposed to cross the toxic area to get to
Damonta? I feel like I've gone from the northern-most point of the map to the very southern-most one across the middle of the map, but I don't think I've found a way to cross to the eastern side.

e: hahahahahaha lmao, found (easter egg spoiler)
a ton of buried E.T. cartridges.
That's a pretty neat easter egg.

e2: nvm i think i found the way

Really interested in picking this up, but I don't think I've ever played a game of this type before. Certainly not Fallout 1 or 2 or Wasteland.

Is the game a.) good and b.) reasonably approachable? I'm not expecting or wanting handholding, but as a newcomer it looks the sort of game where some explanation will be helpful.

Good is subjective, but I find it very compelling.

Approachable?, hmmm.......there is a lot of stuff that's not explained, I wouldn't say it's particularly approachable for someone new to this type of game, although people here would help with any questions you are likely to have.

Here's a question to those who have finished the game before:
Angela just left me
, how far into the main quest am I?

That's true, but it's useful for fixing things you broke when you failed your roll with the first skill.

About halfway! Maybe less.

Hello and welcome.

Sadly, as long as the major bugs of the DC version aren't patched, I wouldn't advise you to buy it. It shouldn't take too long I hope (maybe one week for a quick patch to correct the nastier ones; that being said, they fixed the camera bug very quickly), but until then it is probably better to wait (at bare minimum, one should wait for them to correct the "Dismissed Followers Disappearing" and "Follower Perks Gone After Dismissal" bugs).

Now, the game is interesting alright, and most players will say that it is a good game (I barely scratched the surface, so I really can't say for sure, but I like what I see). However, you will find that the game isn't really newbie-friendly. A lot of things aren't really explained, and it is very important to plan ahead and make a specialized team able to deal with most of the challenges of the game.

In any case, when you do buy the game, you will have the opportunity to go to either a place called Ag Center, either another called Highpool. To put it bluntly, Ag Center is not newbie-friendly at all, and players are unanimous: that place should be avoided like plague if it is your first playthrough. If you don't want to get discouraged right off the bat, go to Highpool. You may want to try Ag Center first once you are experimented, but as a first challenge that place is a nightmare.

I played for some hours yesterday on PS4 and I'm really enjoying my time with the game. I went to Highpool and I was working on the missions there. I had to save and leave it for today, I got stuck
trying to figure out how to make the last valve work, currently at 3 of 4, I'm guessing I need to find a spare one like I did to save that guy's house but I haven't been able to find one
. I'm playing on Rookie but the game seems fairly easy so far, maybe because I'm in the beginning of the game. Might have to up it one notch.

My one complaint so far is that I keep walking over traps or triggering things that I don't even know are there. At least for alarms or things like that I kind of figured that before opening a chest or something I should check my skill tree see if any of them light up meaning I have to use those to be safe. But traps in the ground, I see some but others I just walk over. Kind of confused on how that works.

Other than that the game is fantastic. Love all the dialogue there is and I don't mind reading it all. Using the largest text option I'm not having any trouble reading it all. I sit like 6 feet away from a 40" tv.

You need to turn on Perception, ideally on your lead character. When it's activated, you'll see a white circle around that character that shows their area of sight. If their level is high enough, they'll detect traps and other things.

You can't "turn it on" on consoles, it's a passive skill.

I bought the game yesterday for PS4 and I'm really enjoying it so far, but i have a small problem: One of my characters have a bunch of black insects flying around his head and I have no idea what they are. Does anybody know what to do about it?

Some friendly advice, you should pick about three or four skills for each character to specialize in instead of just one.

A result of the asshole perk I believe.

Yes, I'd assume that's the case.

My perception skill is Lvl2, I can see traps, but I can't disable them yet :-/

I guess. I see some and those I can disable but I don't see them all so I end up running over them. Thankfully they don't do so much damage just yet.

Ok, it has sunk its teeth in me now. I am still in the AG center at the beginning of the game but I have given myself over to the pace the game wants me to play at and it is fantastic!

I am finally getting the use of skills down and learning how to use different approaches to situations.

It has been a really steep learning curve for me but man I can't wait to get back and finish saving the AG Center!
