Wasteland 2: Director's Cut |OT| Post-Apocalyptic, Post-Release Remix

Anyone know where I can get cigarettes? I'm at Highpoint and need some to get rid of the kids.

You mean Highpool?
I think you can get the kids away with some kind of mini handcrossbow you find earlier somewhere, At least it worked with me. Didn't give them cigs.

I gave them the crossbow and they didn't go, I assume I need some menthols

Regarding Highpool:
You need to give the kids a slingshot and marbles. Both can be found in the area (don't ask me where exactly though).

Alternatively,
you can simply buy and give them cigarettes. If you choose a favorite cigarette brand for one of your ranger at creation, he will already have a packet of cigarettes.

They should be, but people are already posting the updated versions on inxile forums, so you might want to check there. From what I've gathered so far though is that stats still behave the same but some of the weapons' properties might have changed, which would affect the optimal AP distribution for some builds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNKpc8tIsvw - this has been linked further upthread, it's worth checking out, if only to give you a few ideas.

Thank you for re-posting this.

My new squads are blazing through enemies more easily compared to my first squad I made last week. Challenges are also easily bypassed with my new squads.
Yeah, squad creation is arguably the most important part of this game.

Was having ammo problems, so went and recruited Scotchmo. Gave him a rabbit's foot and the shovel. Having him open all containers.

Now both my snipers and AR users are nonstop swimming in bullets. Hrm

Doesnt help that so many recruitable pcs are so "eh".

Is there anyway to see which is the current enemy in the turn order on Xbox

Is it any different with PC version?
If not, it's at the top of the screen. The big portrait on the left of turn order is the current squad/enemy turn. Most enemies don't have a portrait on their current turn though, so perhaps it's the thing that is confusing you.

Yeah, it's like the game is not designed for min-maxing squads. I've also read lots of balancing issue later in the game, it's getting too easy.

What I meant is when I'm hovered over an enemy how can I see where he is individually on the turn order.

I see. Yeah, that is important indeed.
How about selecting them on your turn? Will the pictures get highlighted?
I'm on PC using a gamepad, but I haven't tried it. I usually target the most dangerous enemies first instead of their turns.

When I hover over them when I'm attacking they do not get highlighted and I cannot see a way to select them otherwise. It's possible I'm missing something.

Man I hate this game!

Wish that I hadn't blown 5000+ yen on it :(

It really did something weird to me, something I haven't experienced in the whole time I've been gaming. It made me want to take a break from gaming. I felt like I was heading down a road that would bring me to a point where I hated gaming.

I find the game to take a genre that I have always loved (RPGs), since spending entire days playing games like Ultima 4, Wasteland and Pools of Radiance, and make twist it into the least fun I could possibly have whilst also hooking me with its addictiveness.

It sucks the fun out of the genre in so many ways. The whole UI is cluttered, confusing and overly hard to read. There is stuff that is seems to have no explanation (status effects) no matter how much I scour the menus. The combat is incredibly hard and tedious as hell with my sniper and assault rifle characters being lucky to get one shot per round (no way jamming chance is like 4%). The environments are so small it's hard to get a feel for any given location. There is a heap of obnoxious stuff like radiation, the healing system, difficulty of skill checks, etc.

I could go on and on, and I'm also aware that there are plenty of people playing through it and doing well despite how hard the game is to get into but for me it really sucks all the fun out of something that on paper should be right up my alley. The final straw for me, the thing that made me put it down was
sludge collecting in Titan Valley. I don't find hours spent wandering the map looking for sludge only to have many of the barrels of it surrounded by raiders who get pissed off if I touch it fun whatsoever.

I might have to give the original game a replay.

The more i play, the less i understand how inxile had the nerve to call this thing a Director's Cut. Then i remember that it's a Brian Fargo game, and the bugginess and lack of polish makes more sense.

Ran into Ralphie and Chisel in the rail road. Agreed to recruit ralphie, but had a full party so dismissed him. Chisel said hi when i was leaving, same deal, told him to stay in town and we'd collect him later.

Turns out that if you don't dismiss someone already in your party to put the new recruit in the slot...well, they'll kinda be gone forever. Because reasons. Known issue since... apparently october 2014. smh

thanks for this. up till now, i've held off on buying. now, i think i'll continue to :) ...

Does this seem like a good party for the DC? I plan to get an NPC for sniper rifles, 2nd NPC for energy weapons. Not sure about the 3rd NPC (you can have 7 total right?)

Also, I am not sure what to do with my melee character. Only have Blunt or select a 2ndary skill like shotgun? Are shotguns improved over the original W2? I was also thinking of switching my medic to sniper rifles.

Completed Darwin without killing anyone. Got 22 total party charisma. Of course Pizepi didn't spawn. of course.
So we go back to ranger central. Say what needs to be said. Still nothing.
So we dismiss a party member, drop cha to 19, but whatever, lets give it a try. Still nothing.
So we check the cafeteria to get our party member back. Disappeared.

...how the fuck is a year old game with a budget that far surpassed its initial target and a long early access period so janky? Heck, how do you fuck up pc recruitment?

If you're thinking of doing highpool for the sniper npc, she's gonna use the same portrait as pocahontas there. I've been walking around with a brawling character, and he does just fine without a backup ranged skill. 2 AR+2sniper is more than enough to clear out the majority of the targets before they reach the party, at which point brawler dude crits them to oblivion. Hobo with a shotgun almost never gets a pellet off.

Hopefully the companion bug gets patched by tomorrow when my area gets power back, especially if it's fixed internally already.

Thinking about sending it back to Amazon. Started Witcher 3 and i think i'm going to finish that first. Don't know if going back to Wasteland 2 after it, will be a good expierence (especially without a fix of the small text). Also Divinity Original Sin is right around the corner and the 2 hours i played of that (PC at friend) seemed overall more solid and user friendly (PS4 port could still turn out bad, i know).

Going to try 1-2 hours more before i decide but it's hard to divert precious gaming hours to it when i got already hooked in on the AAA greatness/polish of Witcher 3.

On you on your first playthrough of the W3? If so what are you doing sir go play that now.

Yes. That's the thing. Played 10 hours of Witcher 3 yesterday and can see me playing it for another 100 hours (+ expansion) and i'm questioning myself if it isn't better to return Wasteland 2 now and buy it in half a year for 15/20 € again when it got patched a bit. Still want to finish it.

Sorry for this offtopic. Like i said, i'm going to try to split my time for W3 and WL2 and give Wasteland a second chance. Still appreciate it that the devs made the way to consoles at all and keep the genre alive.

I'm just waiting for the patch here. One can only do Ag Center and Highpool again and again so many times before getting bored.

Where do you usually get into the gamebreaking (companion) bugs?
I'm on my way to Damonta now, is it close?

I don't know if there are companions in Damonta, so I can't answer. As long as you don't have to dismiss one, you are fine, but as long as they don't fix the dismissed companion bug (and the lost perks one), I won't take the risk to screw my playthroughs.

Apparently, the bug only concerns the Ranger Citadel. It seems that once you reach
Los Angeles
, companions will appear correctly where they are supposed to be recruited again. They still lose their perks though. Source.

Any console folks successfully resolved the Topekan/Atchinson conflict? I seem limited to the bad outcome, and I don't see what I've missed.

On the old PC version, you had to type in a keyword. Supposedly you can get the keyword to appear on console DC without typing, but I am not having any luck.

I managed to do this on PC without entering any keywords (both pre and post Director's Cut).

Don't recruit Ralphy early, but do rescue him. Talk to Kekkabah, go through all his dialogue (no skill checks IIRC). Go talk to Casey Jones and he'll say his daughter was captured by the Atchisons. Offer to free her, do the skill check saying he should offer peace in return. Go talk to Kekkabah about it, there are a couple skill checks (appeal to his honor, I think it's either Smart/Kiss ass). he sends you back to Casey Jones, go back to him and get his terms. Couple skill checks there including one really tough one for this point (5/6 smart ass, I think). At the end you'll know you succeed if you can suggest they "both" get the Golden Spike. Casey sends you back to Kekkabah, when you go talk to him you'll suggest "even the strongest man needs two arms to drive a train". This gives him the final idea in his counter-offer, which Casey will accept when you meet him in front of the Atchison camp.

I haven't managed to get it to work without
Casey Jones' daughter being captured.
He seems more amenable to it if he
accidentally kills her with an explosive
, but I'm not sure what the path is from there.

They really need to patch the disappearing companions' bug and fast. The game doesn't feel significantly different from vanilla to me, and D:OS is getting its major overhaul very soon.

Is this a Console and PC issue?

According to several posts on steam forums it affects PS4 users too. I'm not sure if anyone reported the bug for the X1 version.

Well, I guess that means that I can safely put the game on hold for now. Just in time for 2 new games that are going to be released tomorrow as well. Too bad though, as I've already invest about 25 hours in the game already since the DC release and totally enjoyed my time with it.

See you soon, rangers.

I got the pod member trophy. It's not that it's glitched as I said earlier. There are two countdowns, the first one is 14.000 for the bubonic plague and the another of 6.000 for the pod infection.

The one that is definitely glitched is the one about getting Scotchmo to steal five bottles from you, though.

So if you just dismiss the NPC first. Then go recruit another it won't bug?

I'm about to replace Ralph with Scotch, but don't want to lose Ralph yet.

You wouldn't lose Ralphy, but you would lose any of the perks you've given him due to a bug, even if you add him back into the party right away. They only disappear entirely if you save within the Ranger Citadel.

Coriolanus means that if you manage to convince someone to join your party, but don't add them to your party straight away, they won't be considered "recruited." All you need to do is dismiss someone from your party (in this case Ralphy), add Scotchmo to your party, dismiss Scotchmo, and then add Ralphy back to the party (though he'll be missing his perks if you've already given him some due to a bug that should be patched soon). Scotchmo will go to the Ranger Citadel and wait there for you to add him back in whenever you feel like it. If you don't temporarily put Scotchmo in your party before leaving the area, he'll disappear from the game, which is intended. Just don't save in the Citadel or he'll vanish unintentionally.

In theory, yeah.

Problem is that there's another bug where the recruits you dismiss disappear on the way back to the Citadel, sooooooooo.... yeah.

Director's cut sure seems to be code for "we fired the QA director guy"

I also mean that if you dont get Ralphy into your party then and there once the dismiss menu pops up, you wont be able to interact with him again. He'll just stand there by the bike. As for chisel, if you don't do that and leave the town, he's gone for good too. People mentioned that same happens to takayuki if you accept the bodyguard offer but dismiss him.

You need to add them to the party before dismissing them. If you dismiss them before you add them to the party, the game won't consider them recruited. I added Takayuki to my party yesterday, then dismissed him, and he showed up at the citadel. I had already added Chisel to my party by dismissing Ralphy first (which caused his perks to vanish), and dismissing Chisel sent him to the Citadel after I left the area. I added Ralphy back to my party as soon as I could after he temporarily left, so I have no experience with that part.

The recruitable companions really should just stay in one place if you don't manage to successfully recruit them, but that's not how the game works, unfortunately. It's frustrating how unpolished the game is despite its addictiveness.

I'm confused, how do you dismiss a companioin if he's not added to the party in the first place? And if you don't recruit them do they just disappear or do they go to the citadel anyways?

I think this is referring to the "swap party members" dialog where you're choosing who to replace with your new companion when you recruit a new one. If you don't replace anyone, you're implicitly "dismissing" your new party member, but they don't count as recruited in that case.

I don't recall where they go if you do that, I think they just stay where they were.

Yeah, if your party is full you'll see this screen:

If I had dismissed Chisel, I wouldn't have recruited him, and leaving the area would cause him to disappear forever. Chisel wouldn't have stayed in the Rail Nomad Camp. Adding him to the party and then dismissing sends him to the Citadel.

So guys, what kind of input method do you prefer? Keyboard and mouse or controller? I'm about to start the game soon and just want to know which one is better.

Keyboard and mouse by a country mile. That being said they did the best they could for such a complicated title. Playing it on PS4 is still lots of fun even if after 20 hours and a few frustrations.

Does anyone else encounter stuttering issues on PC? A game that looks like this shouldn't have issues maintaining 60fps, but msi afterburner shows frequent dips to 57-58fps, which looks jarring during gameplay. Specs are Windows 7, 16GB ram, i7 4770k and gtx 770 2GB.

Has a very nasty ramleak that requires rebooting every coupla hours or so. Give it a CAD and see ram usage. Might be it.
