Watch Dogs - New Gameplay Footage

Oh right, right - I'm dumb, brain fart on the clock speed business.

Devil's advocate: couldn't a dev kit be modified JUST for these videos, to make them look just that tiny bit better than they'll actually look on the PS4?

It wouldn't be smart - not for hyper-analytic crowds like this one - that's for sure.

You can't just modify a devkit. I haven't checked for the PS4 yet (got a couple around me though), but on the PS3 the big devkits include extra memory that you only use during the early part of development to load extra things on memory and prevent crashes that you'd have to spend weeks and weeks to fix otherwise. The PS4 devkit is also bigger than a PS3 so I assume it includes a few extra bits and of course a bigger fan and whatnot, plus (I believe?) some recording system. But otherwise when you plug something into it, it runs the game like a normal console.

Using extra memory even just for some videos would be way too risky.... so no, I'd say this is how the game will look on PS4 (except better because Youtube blurs the hell out of it).

Never heard of anyone ever doing that. It's a black box provided by Sony. I don't think messing with the hardware would be covered under warranty. For it to be a valid argument, it needs to have a precedent. Otherwise it ends up in tinfoil territory.

So the MP portion of this game they showcase: was that a co-op against bots, or was that a 5v5 game type?

Please be a 5v5 MP deathmatch type of thing, because I need me a third person shooter for my PS4.

Good enough for me.

5v5 and kinda seems to be the only one that's a team game. The other modes just seem to be about 1v1 with hacking and trailing. Though there is a free roam seemingly but I dunno what it entails and if you can harm the other guys.

ISS has incredible lighting but it was mentioned in a tech analysis that much of the lighting is pre-rendered on farms which explains the time of day transitions as opposed to a cycle.

Most of the precompute was for probes. They didn't use lightmaps. (unless I'm forgetting something) They had ambient baked into some vertices, but I think that's it as far as actual baking goes.

That section does look very good. Also I think it's hilarious that he's able to make the helicopter explode with his phone.

HACKING

On a motorbike. JUMPING OVER A BRIDGE AT PRETTY HIGH ALTITUDE.

It's all kinds of "Tony Stark made this with A BUNCH OF SCRAPS!" awesome.

Game looks great, but that driving man...I'm not feeling it. It reminds me of Sleeping Dogs, and the driving in Sleeping Dogs was horrible IMO

HACKING

The prompt was "Disrupt helicopter", so I don't think he actually destroyed it. You can still see it afterwards on the mini-map for the duration of the clip.

I was sold on this back in 2012 but my anticipation is now at an all time high. What a great idea for an open-world game! Even if the side quests do tend to be a little dull, the concept & setting are so ambitious, and I think it's now safe to say that it clearly won't suck so Hurry up May 27!!

My interest in this game has been a roller coaster ride. Latest vids show some promise, so time to go back up.

It doesn't have to look better than Infamous, but I want the gameplay to stay fun. Infamous got repetitive pretty quick in the combat department.

Looks good to me, but watching the gamersyde video at full quality is very obvious that is a cross-gen game. The only thing that annoys me is the aliasing.

I just really hope they get the little things right. Stuff like the civilian ai, radio stations, variety of vehicles, good side missions (and not just side activities) all go a long way in an open world game like this.

Nah. Just slightly different lighting situations. There is gamersyde footage for the same raw gameplay. It has the exact same amount of aliasing. Look for the fence on the right as he walks past it. On my phone. Will post screens to confirm this in an hour, if someone doesn't by then

I thought it looked more clean (better AA) and AF filtering was better. I think the 9minute multiplayer video was more compressed come to think of it making it hard to compare.

I'm referring to these two videos.

Official 9 minute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKwn4nK5J28

Raw ps4 gameplay ( which I thought was maybe PC by reasons stated above ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11QqKWB-a2k

I haven't seen any of the gamersyde videos yet as I'm on ipad. I will check it out now. Have the gamersyde videos been confirmed running on PS4?

EDIT: Ok, watched them, both look alike. my apologies.

No issues. I made a screenshot comparison of the gamersyde footage for both before I saw your message, so posting it here anyway. Top has been confirmed as PS4 devkit, bottom is unconfirmed. This seemed like the only portion where the lighting was comparable. If the bottom were high end PC, I would expect all the aliasing in the scene to be gone. Night time footage is quite clean on both. It's most impressive when it rains. Pretty uneven through the rest of the day. But then, so is real life, I guess.

There definitely is some noticeable aliasing, especially in motion, but they are actually a lot cleaner than what I remember from E3 2013 (note: 2013).

The game will look just as good as Infamous SS, but the lighting won't be as good as Infamous.if Infamous is a 10, Watch Dogs will be a 9 in terms of graphics comparison.

You are crazy if you think a cross gen game is going to look anywhere near as good as one made as a console exclusive.

I don't expect this to look as good as Infamous, and before these videos I had no interest in the game.

That multiplayer however looks pretty fun. May consider picking this up.

?! Looking at the video the game is clearly looking good. Of course if your mind is preset with an opinion about how games look if they are cross-gen or exclusive this won't ever become true to these people.

I'm more worried about the driving than anything else - it looks far from smooth. It doesn't even seem to have improved since it's E3 2012 reveal, when I was worried about how janky it looked (the driving, not the game).

About the online hacking/invasion :

I hope there's a way for the hacker to act more natural like, say have some prompts when you get close to people and blend in like in ass creed, or just be able to sit on a bench or other simple stuff like that cause I'd like to have scenarios when you hack a guy without him ever finding out who you were unlike the video demonstration they showed.
It makes for a better experience if those scenarios play out differently imo.

I'm worried about the hacking element. Seems like it's just press x to awesome, similar to Ryse's QTEs which were a huge component of the game.
