Watchmen Trailer

I know it's a bit of a sin on my part but, even though I've been meaning to for ages, I've never got round to reading Watchmen. The trailer looked awesome though and I really liked the choice of music. As somebody that knows very little about the novel I couldn't help but notice how much Nightowl looks like Batman-wonder if that'll be a problem for casual movie goers?

I think I'll put off reading the novel until I've seen the movie. It's always better to watch the movie first because the book or comic is usually always better, that way you get to enjoy the movie, and then you get to enjoy the source material even more afterwards.

Soooooo wonderful.

You are not alone, my brothers. You are not alone.

This trailer is very well done. It really doesn't spoil anything for those that haven't read the comic. We will see how the future trailer turn out, but at least this one leaves everything to the watcher's imagination. It peaks your interest without giving you any idea the direction the story will take.

WATCHMEN SPOILER INCOMING
I can't wait to see the prison scene. Oh baby.

Snyder's films are visually sumptuous.

That said, I haven't read watchmen but this looked really good. I can see it attracting a lot of audience "because its made by the guy who made 300" rather than being "the ground breaking alan moore comic".

Looks awesome. Hollywood's gift for my 25th birthday looks like a winner.

I'm sorry, why don't we have an animated gif of Silk Spectre walking down those stairs yet?

Which I can't wait to see onscreen.
Nite Owl is all dressed and calls back to see if she's coming. He turns around and there she is, in stylized slow motion, walking down the steps in THAT fucking costume.
Can't wait.

Looks awesome. Hollywood's gift for my 25th birthday looks like a winner.

Ha, my 30th birthday is the next month, too.

Childhood's end, isn't it ironic?

The trailer has the hyper-cool edginess that seems to sort of miss the point of the comic, but I'm cool with it having its own style so it stands on its own stylistically. So, looking good.

I'm thinking that shot of Silk Spectre walking down the stairs may be
her as a teenager when she and Dr. M have their first meeting. I'm thinking this because if I saw shit walking towards me I'd like leave my 40-something, complaining wrinkling wife in a heartbeat too!

as expected, this movie is going to completely miss the point and style of the comic book. No surprise here

It just looks like another slow-mo action packed shitfest like 300, which was pretty faithful to the source since 300 is a shitty comic book after all. But this is Watchmen. I will sure pass

what? how would someone who hasn't read it understand what i'm talking about?
Key character dies? What's hard to understand about that? It's not like you're speaking in tongues just because you say a name someone hasn't heard before.

Next month from now or the movie's release?

My 25th is the Watchmen's release date.

My childhood will never truly end, at least if I have anything to say about it.

Wow. Was really surprised at this trailer and since I've enjoyed other graphic novel made movie films (V for Vendetta, Sin City, 300) hopefully this will be the same.

Still not completely positive I'll love the movie, but this has definitely just sold me a ticket. :lol

I've yet to see the trailer, but does anybody know if this follows David Hayter's script? IIRC, it was exactly like the comic book, only adapted into a shorter package. Moore supposedly liked the script due to this.

Writing credits
David Hayter (screenplay) and
Alex Tse (screenplay)

David Hayter's script was set in the 90's. When Alex Tse was brought on board, he changed it back to the 80's and altered a bit of stuff in Hayter's script.

I hated the 300 movie so I'm a bit nervous about this one. But on the other hand I never read 300 the comic, and Miller's stuff is really hit or miss with me. So maybe 300 was dumb from the beginning and not dumbed-down by Snyder?

Trailer looks cool at least.

I though the same thing, then I read the comic :lol .. I hated 300 but this time around he has better source material, so stoked for this!

Snyder pretty much followed the graphic novel exactly. He did add in the bit with the Queen though.
the whole rape thing and the "go before the counsel" part as well I believe

i was being a little facetious. but you can't deny that he's a pretty eccentric dude.

I agree, he's TOTALLY eccentric, but also very kind and down to earth. He just doesn't like what Hollywood does with his works and that's pretty understandable

yeah. to be fair, i have pretty much despised all the adaptations that have been done of moore's work thus far (league and vendetta come to mind), and i guess he got burned. it sucks, to be sure, and i just hate to see him draw back from what looks to be a really solid adaptation that's trying hard to do justice to his work. maybe it won't, and maybe it'll blow as much as the other two, but initial impressions are much better than either of those films.

The month after Watchmen is released. I would love to say my childhood is going to end, but I can see myself glancing at the fantasy section of the book store or hiding out in GAF for the rest of my life. :D

That could very well be it, too. I'm leaning more toward what I said though, because she was sitting when
she and Dr. Manhatten met
and walking down stairs in the scene I mentioned. And because that's the moment
Nite Owl almost has a heart attack by how beautiful she is and basically confirms to himself he's madly in love with her
.

The trailer has the hyper-cool edginess that seems to sort of miss the point of the comic, but I'm cool with it having its own style so it stands on its own stylistically. So, looking good.

But doesn't that sound kind of reflective of what the director was going for: he's essentially making a movie that reflects modern superhero movies the same way Watchmen reflected comics of the 80's?

That said, it will never be the same as a slower, dialogue-filled HBO mini-series for example, but maybe we'll have that someday too.

Could I get a link to some Watchmen lore or something.

I'm not a comic book dude
I've never heard of the Watchmen
But I got some serious geek chills from that trailer
I think I have an erection too.

yep thats an erection.

Kay.

Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons. Originally published by DC Comics as a monthly limited series from 1986 to 1987, it was later republished as a trade paperback,[1] which popularized the "graphic novel" format. To date, Watchmen remains the only graphic novel to win a Hugo Award,[2] and is also the only graphic novel to appear on Time Magazine's 2005 list of "the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present."[3]

Watchmen is set in 1985, in an alternative history United States where costumed adventurers are real and the country is edging closer to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union (the Doomsday Clock is at five minutes to midnight). It tells the story of a group of past and present superheroes and the events surrounding the mysterious murder of one of their own. Watchmen depicts superheroes as real people who must confront ethical and personal issues, who struggle with neuroses and failings, and who - with one notable exception - lack anything recognizable as super powers. Watchmen's deconstruction of the conventional superhero archetype, combined with its innovative adaptation of cinematic techniques and heavy use of symbolism, multi-layered dialogue, and metafiction, has influenced both comics and film.

Basically you have an alternative version of 1985 where vigilante superheroes are banned. The heroes are given a choice: work for the government and be free or retire to prevent criminal charges.

When one of the "patriotic" superheroes is murdered, it sets off a chain of events that involves five former superheroes:

Nite Owl: Batman-type, chubby nerd who's retired and writes books on birds and has a crush on Silk Spectre

Silk Spetre: Former smoking hot jailbait who turned in her costume and works for the government with her husband---

Dr. Manhatten: Nuclear man, almost Spock-like emotional state, works for the government

Rorschach: Question-like underground vigilante; brooding, wears a Rorschach test as a mask, Punisher-like murderer of criminals

Ozymandias: retired, became a rich billionaire; world's smartest man, nearly assassinated himself

The best thing to do is read the comic. It's a lot to explain. You can get the graphic novel at borders. Even if you're not a comic guy I think anyone can enjoy it. I'm not a comic guy much either but I really enjoyed the Watchmen as much as any other great movie or novel.

Of course, the truly awesome thing about the trailer IS the song - not just because it's good, but because it's the best version of the song that was the 'official' song for Batman & Robin - continuing the theme of bettering the shitness of the now averagely dull superhero movies that exist.

Do yourself a favor and pick up the graphic novel. With Watchmen that is really all there is. Unlike Batman or Superman, there aren't 1001 Watchmen stories floating around. You got the one graphic novel and that's it.

Trust me, you can get cheap ($13 on Amazon) and its a really good experience for even non-comic fans. Go to any comic store around the country and ask them what they would recommend for someone that isn't into comics. I bet you anything that most of your answers will be Watchmen.

Looks horrible.
CGI, greenscreens, random slow-mo, and people talking like they're constipated.

p.s.
I know this hack Snyder has a hard-on for slow motion, but seriously, did you need to slow down the fucking song?

ezekial45 said:
They used a different version of the song. It sounds better than the one in Batman and Robin.

In all fairness, I remember that being the last track on the soundtrack. It may have been in the end credits as well, but I don't know because I never watched the piece of shit.

I did own the soundtrack though.
