@Comic-Con:

-Zack Snyder just premiered an extended Watchmen trailer and it was AMAZING. I had chills the ENTIRE time - it looks STUNNING!!

-They showed the Watchmen footage once again and yet again it amazed me. Watchmen looked breathtaking, utterly amazing!!

So how many more minutes of uninterrupted slow motion did that trailer have?

The movie is 3hrs right now, Snyder doesn't want to cut it but the studios are saying you have to.

Well, maybe the directors cut (when they throw in the animated pirate stuff) will be like 4 hours long and just like the comic?

Anyway, some frames deserve slow motion!

Indeed, some of the scenes are drawn in a slow mo-like manner. In fact, you could argue that the action in a comic book always moves in slow motion.

It also reflects some of the characters. Nite Owl and The Comedian are the type of guys that get off on the action, so turning violence into beauty makes perfect sense. Because it also accentuates the beauty of movement, it also really suits the world's greatest athlete that is Veidt.

Another argument in favor of it, is that it comments on the style of modern movies, like the book commented about other comics of its time.

And of course slow motion looks awesome if shot by someone who has an eye for great visuals, as anybody who ever saw Hard Boiled, Raging Bull, The Matrix or The Wild Bunch (to name but a few) can attest to.

Does anyone have pictures of the original teasers that these are based off of?

Found them all here. Sorry, can't find Silk Spectre I :'( Does she even have one?

Fairly accurate recreations. Impressive.

I'm wondering why they aren't giving him the full mask. I'm assuming this was after vietnam. Notice its in the drawn poster.

I think they may have cut the disfiguring. Which is a shame.

I completely forgot that Nite Owl one existed, and I didn't realize that the Silk Spectre II quote was exact.

Before the series came out, these appeared in the comics press, and I had saved a couple from the Comics Buyer's Guide.

All excellent points. Loved the slow-mo in Snyder's last joint so I don't have any reservations about it in this one.

Are you talking about the incident with the pregnant girl in Vietnam? I don't think they cut that since I remember seeing that scene.

Well, he seems to be lacking the scar.

Hmm yea it does. But that scene is still there at least. I didn't really watch for the scar in the trailer.

Also, did anyone notice the corpse of Dollar Bill in the footage? I thought that was cool that they added that.

Figured I'd do some custom work for this. This is a work in progress and mostly a prototype, but I figured I'd post anyway.

Mighty Muggs Rorschach!

Will do a final version of him when the blank ones are released in September, but I'm happy with the rough draft thus far :D

Here's a set photo with what looks like the scar intact.

I have a feeling we won't know sure either way for months.

Hell, they've probably got both versions set to go, and test audiences will decide which goes up.

*shudder*

Real spoiler follows:

So, you are saying that the squid thing will actually be from outer space, the whole thing setting Veidt up as the fall guy to turn our heroes on each other.. then Manhattan will bring the comedian back and they will all team up to fight the aliens right?

Then at the end the comedian will stab the alien with an american flag and say "We watch the watchmen. America FUCK YEAH"

I've seen this trailer a few times now, most recently in front of The Dark Knight. I have no idea what Watchmen is other than a graphic novel (because the trailer told me so). I thought it looked hilarious and kind of awkward. In the theater there was a lot of laughter during the trailer, so I'm guessing they weren't familiar with it as well (it's a town of older folks, mostly). From skimming the thread, it sounds like if I were more familiar with the source material it might come accross better. Though, I had not read 300 or Sin City and those trailers looked awesome.

Well, the problem is there isnt a ton of action in the comic. I mean really, they showed pretty much every action scene in the comic book. They are trying to sell this as another 300, but it really isnt.

The reason people got excited is it looks shot for shot like the comic in several scenes.

Well from what I've been reading,
Veidt gets off but the alien was probably changed to something else.

They cant change the alien into much else unless they are going to change the island completely.. and they cant change that too much, because thats the only reason the comedian dies...

Ive been reading that they kill Veidt so the "bad guy" gets whats coming to him

Well Watchmen is an older comic so that doesn't really affect it.

Its not hard to imagine they may extend the movie past the novel's by maybe showing the events resulting from
rorshachs journal being published
I recently reread the book and one of kid rorshachs early writings and his admiration for truman's decision allowed me to finally get the message of the book. You cant foresee the reprocussions of your descicions, and Truman and his bombs was the one who ushered in the cold war and most of the unrest we see today.
The parallels with veidt may be hard to convey within the cinema format while staying true to source material, so they may show an even nastier outcome that happens after the book's ending

Ugg, I hope they don't try and take subtle hints or things left open and hammer you with them/answer unanswered questions.

The only thing I could see looking awkward is Nite Owl's costume and how similar it looks to Batman. My local audience giggled after the shot where Nite Owl lands on the street. At first glance it may look like one of those stupid parody movies:

Meet the Spartans is to 300 as Watchmen is to The Dark Knight

Obviously that would be an incorrect assumption, and I think people will come to realize it with the release of the first theatrical trailer. This was just a teaser trailer which could have easily been a 3-D rotating logo or something cheesy (see: every fucking other teaser).

So I think with this teaser, Snyder just wanted to show the fans that he is staying loyal to the source material. He'll explain the story in the theatrical trailer, and I bet there won't be many giggles when Rorshach is talking about blood scabbing over in the streets etc etc.

I think they should do a trailer for each of the 1984 heroes and release them in waves. Let the audience understand their mindset and motivations while showing glimpses of the plot.

This Movie will easliy blow my mind.
The comic book did a pretty excellent job of blowing my mind in the subjects of politics, time, human emotions, ethics, and plenty of "what if?" scenarios.

Wonder if the the reprint will use semi-glossy paper this time? Or was that an intentional choice? All I know is that my Absolute Sandman has way nicer binding and paper quality than my Absolute Watchmen.

Does your avatar have anything to do with Watchmen? It's like Spider-Man 2099 plus Rorschach.

Deadpool, from Cable & Deadpool #13:

It's very reminiscent of Rorschach though, yes, with the fedora + trench + mask.

So, I just read an exerpt( first chapter)from watchmen. The Holli Mason book at the end left me :O
The amount of detail here is beyond it's time. I have got to say, the way the story is narrated is amazing. It doesn't look like it's a sci-fi Superhero story, it looks like a really, really good crime story. Rosharch = Awesomeness." I've just broken this guy's finger..." " Now, his index finger"

holy crap:lol

You think Rorshach is cool now, just wait. He is the ultimate anti-hero.

Don't highlight this spoiler text though:

"Your hands. My perspective ... One-nothing. Your move. Come and get me."

/sees trailer, director attached

This movie will be a complete disaster. Shit.
IMO, if Snyder and Haley (the actor) get Rorschach right, everything else will fall into place. Unfortunately, there wasn't much Rorschach in the trailer (even though he had one of the only lines).
