I still say he's a snob about Watchmen. He didn't even read the Watchmen script. And if he did, I'm sure he would realize Snyder is not going to be missing the point.
Well he did read Hayter's script, and he said "David Hayter's screenplay was as close as I could imagine anyone getting to Watchmen" but he still maintain's the stance that it only works as a comic.

edit:too late again

Shame on them for thinking people will cough up $2 for a flash animation with 1 voice actor.
I think they're cool and worth the price. However, they need to get a female to do the female voices.

Will still get the next 11 episodes though. :D

Unless they change the ending, then the whole point is completely lost.

This should make everyone feel a little bit better:

Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach) said:
Zack Snyder, his vision for this thing, was incredibly exciting for all of us. It's like the whole goal out there was to try and stick as close as we could in tone and theme and meaning and the whole thought-provoking aspect of Watchmen. It's kind of funny, I realized this today talking to press and people, looking over at Zack at the monitor, I saw him more with the comic book in his hand than the script.

Rorschach falls in a bathroom, gets poo on his face.

Manhattan is a Blue Man reject (Tobias style).

Ignorant "Nite Owl is the same as Batman" jokes.

Bubastis gets a hairball.

Ozymandias' dish cable goes out due to blizzard.

Kovacks drops the soap.

The Bernies tongue kiss.

STOP

They've cut stuff from the actual comic too, I think.

They've cut out the whole Tales of the Black Freighter aspect, but they're making it as an animated thing and releasing it on DVD a few days after the film opens. Some of the other supplemental parts of the comics will be included too. Apparently they plan to re-edit that back into the movie on a special-edition DVD.

I thought he was talking about the animated & narrated comic version. They've cut some of Rorschach's journal entries for example.

Just read the novel, saw the trailer. And I've got to say. This could be the greatest "super-hero" movie ever, or it can be the usual halfassed pile of fail. Depends on the execution.

Most movie goers hate the upbeat happy ending bullshit supe movies provide consistently. Even Dark Knight which has people dying everywhere and Batman taking the blame for murders still comes off corny. Watchmen has a chance to break that mold and gain additional cult following.

Thusly I have high expectations for the plot, but low expectations on the actual outcome of the movie.

We shall see.

Well, Snyder has said that the ending will remain virtually intact:
said nothing about whether the squid will exist, but he did say Veidt will live and not be punished.

The squid's kinda important.

new set pic of the newsstand guy and some homeless guy.

Regarding the pic above:
That isn't some homeless guy, dammit!

It looks like a pretty good pick, but I am wondering about what his physical build is. He looks really skinny there. Walter Kovacs was pretty built for his size in the comic.

Newstand pic doesn't look too shabby.
At first I thought Rorshach unmask should look bigger or more menacing, but the more I look at the pic, the better I like it, considering Kovac wasn't supposed to be that intimidating of a guy anyway.

I don't have the book with me right now, but I always thought all the newstand scenes were darker as if it were nighttime or something?

He was impressed David Hayter's script:

Alan Moore said:
"David Hayter's screenplay was as close as I could imagine anyone getting to Watchmen. That said, I shan't be going to see it. My book is a comic book. Not a movie, not a novel. A comic book. It's been made in a certain way, and designed to be read a certain way."

But then again, i'm not sure if he saw the revised script thats being used now.

Ah, what does Alan Moore know. I indeed must be just some delusional fanboy if only the likes of him agree with me.

Alan Moore said:
I've read the screenplay, so I know exactly what they're doing with it, and I'm not going to be going to see it. When I wrote "V," politics were taking a serious turn for the worse over here. We'd had [Conservative Party Prime Minister] Margaret Thatcher in for two or three years, we'd had anti-Thatcher riots, we'd got the National Front and the right wing making serious advances. "V for Vendetta" was specifically about things like fascism and anarchy.

Those words, "fascism" and "anarchy," occur nowhere in the film. It's been turned into a Bush-era parable by people too timid to set a political satire in their own country. In my original story there had been a limited nuclear war, which had isolated Britain, caused a lot of chaos and a collapse of government, and a fascist totalitarian dictatorship had sprung up. Now, in the film, you've got a sinister group of right-wing figures — not fascists, but you know that they're bad guys — and what they have done is manufactured a bio-terror weapon in secret, so that they can fake a massive terrorist incident to get everybody on their side, so that they can pursue their right-wing agenda. It's a thwarted and frustrated and perhaps largely impotent American liberal fantasy of someone with American liberal values [standing up] against a state run by neo-conservatives — which is not what "V for Vendetta" was about. It was about fascism, it was about anarchy, it was about [England].

Uhm, I'm not really seeing his point though. I mean, it pretty much is a totalitarian dictatorship in the movie too, isn't it?

Can someone explain to me what was the purpose of that kid that would read his own little comic throughout the story? I can't quite see how to tie that up to the story. It's at hte tip of my brain but i can't put it together.

The comic is a handy thematic parallel to what's going on in the main narrative.

:lol :lol :lol Yeah, why not get a shot of the main character?!

Oh crap! I'm still in the middle of reading Watchmen and that just occurred to me. I had no idea
the guy with the doomed sign was rorschach. Man, he's everywhere in this book. Main character is right.

Although the early impression from reading the book was that Dr. Manhattan was the main character. But then again, there is tons of back story for all the superheroes.
Deep in a very literal sense.

Wait. Wat. Does that mean that snyder and co. are actually filming the Marooned/Pirate story scenes as well?.. cuz that'd be revolting even for a few minutes.

BTW,
rorschach/kovacs was listed as 5'6" and like 140 pounds.. that's almost exactly my size.. and I don't look very imposing.

Hey spoiler tagging is great and all, but you're ruining the Dark Knight for people who have read the Watchmen. What's up?

Probably been asked a thousand times by now, but what's the awesome Smashing Pumpkins song in the trailer? It's haunting.

EDIT: Thanks much!

Sorry about that spoiler there :D And yes, they will be filming the pirate story, which will be released as a separate DVD a week after Watchmen premieres. There is speculation about a "megamovie"; meaning a director's cut containing both the Watchmen theatrical release and Tales Of The Black Freighter dvd. .

Have I mentioned lately that Snyder is a hack and this will suck?

No. You might want to post it again in about 2 pages so you get the most attention. Use bold next time so we realize that it's very important that we know it too.

I really hope this movie does well. I met Malin Akerman when she was filming this movie (she actually recommended I read the comics... thanks!) and I totally hope this movie rockets her to super-stardom. She totally deserves it. In the brief time I met her, she encouraged me to take up writing again. Promised I'd send her my very first published book. So yeah, total class act.

Because of 300? The original comic ain't Shakespeare, that's for damn sure. :lol

The biggest projects he has directed so far is 300 and the new Dawn of the Dead. I'm just so sick of people complaining about him when it isn't like he has some long history of making terrible movies, like say Uwe Boll. 300 was brainless, but it's not the worse movie on the planet. Snyder stuck close to the spirit of the source matieral, and added a brief side story to pad out the script. So what exactly did he do wrong?

Sounds to me like you're just hatin' for the sake of hatin'
