Watchmen Trailer

Just found out Quantum of Solace has a new Watchmen trailer before it. I couldn't wait to see Quantum before, but now my anticipating grew even more!

Some bits weren't so effective - the opening Comedian attack scene and more notably a later jailbreak scene were shown and were fun action moments but seem a little frivolous. Similarly some of the line deliveries felt a little stiff. Nevertheless this was rough footage and further post-production tweaking can make all the difference in the world when it comes to these very minor haggles.
That's the first comment I've read in regards to the actual performances.

Crazy how one little sentence could greatly effect my long-standing "cautiously optimistic" position. This is where it counted the most for me...

We could potentially see it hitting these very tubes as soon as tomorrow!

Yeah, it's more story-oriented. A lot of Rorschach from what I hear. :D

I really hope they frame it as a murder mystery as opposed to a popcorn super-hero flick (which is sure to eventually disappoint some folks). I hope it's just Rorschach walking the streets, narrating from his journal with flicks of action here and there.

The trailers still worry me. 300 had a certain feel of sterility I find difficult to explain, everything felt manipulated to such an extent that it just lost any possibility of an emotional response. Fortunately it wasn't such a problem because 300 is primarily an action film. Watchmen on the other hand is entirely different can o' worms. I'm not sure about any one else, but I never imagined Watchmen was full of stylish camera shots and excessive use of slo-mo when I read it. It always came across as quite blunt and mundane to me, possibly due to Gibbons colouring and just the general layout of the art, and it worked. I hope they nail the actual feeling of the 80's, and it isn't just a bunch of sets. I'm quite hesitant about things like that. The trailers give the impression of all surface no substance.

WTF, Japan?! :lol Watchmen's definitely not for them then.

I think these are pretty good concerns. Watchmen used a very consciously restrained style to make the point of the heroes themselves being fairly mundane, and which also made them look a little ridiculous. The panel layout was extremely rigid, and it broke the 9-panel-square layout only occasionally at first, and in a very deliberate way. The cinematography of the trailer OTOH, looks rather flashy.

I also had the same trouble relating to the characters in 300 emotionally.

Gibbons wasn't the colorist, by the way, it was John Higgins.

I personally like the Comedian one and ofcourse the Rorschach one. The Comedian one is actually kinda funny and ironic. A man lighting his cigar with a blowtorch saying 'We're society's only protection'. :lol

The sole purpose of The Comedian poster is to continue confusing the public into thinking that Robert Downey is in the movie.

New trailer comes out 5pm Pacific Standard Time on Yahoo movies.

Those new poster are pretty cool but not as cool as the one they released a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah, I also read that just about a minute ago. What would that be in European time?

Oh sorry, my bad.
It's also hard to believe that the use of slow-mo and such is something that'll just be confined to the trailer, knowing Synder's previous work. I remain cautiously optimistic, anyway.

After watching that clip, the whole movie will lose all meanings. They'll just use those scenes as a pathway to slow-mo superhero garbage. Just look at Silk 2 and Night Owl 2 in the alleyway with the thugs. Argh....

First time I see this clip, It seems they turned the jail breakout part into this big fighting scene (will be in slo-mo I'm sure).
I should of expected that but still, meh....

I want to see The Watchmen in fast-motion, with Yakkety Sax on the soundtrack instead of Smashing Pumpkins.

Remember that I was responding to a post that said copy and paste from the source material = movie failure.

(Then you came in with your 5 movies...)

Adaptions can be good. As long as it retains the core thrusts of the original. (The Shining) Sticking to the source material can also work if the source material is already good. Saying that only adaptations work paves the way for scrambling things just for the sake of scrambling them.

The Shining was better because Kubrick understood what was truly scarier. He was proven correct with the Shining miniseries. But then again, Watchman is higher concept than The Shining.

Too much slow-mo and emphasis on style. The performances seem similarily stylized and weak from the trailer. It's going to be fun without a doubt, but I can already see the layers and complexity of the novel dissolving on screen unfortunately. Just my opinion. It's a good trailer.

Rorshach sounds like Bats :lol. Decent trailer but its focus on visuals over substance worries me.

Watchmen's "substance" is hardly something that can really be delivered in a trailer.

Think back to TDK's second trailer, which was just focused on the Joker and lots of explosions. Not much substance there (as far as story goes) either.

I liked the trailer, but was unfortunately reminded by the mushroom clouds that there will be a new ending, which absolutely pisses me off.

At least you could tell what the fuck the movie is about in TDK's trailers. Regular people watching this thing are going to be left with a WTF!? reaction.

Yeah, Rorshach is supposed to sound like that. Some of the voices really irked me though (I think Nite Owl?). Snyder is really going arthouse. It's just that there is way too much action in these trailers for something that should have very little. At least in TDK it made sense.

Most of the plot in the trailers for the Dark Knight were covered up. But after you see the movie it usually see everything you missed.

The people that are seeing this movie anyway are fans of the graphic novel.

The budget for the movie is 100 mil+ and the marketing is insane. 90% of the people watching will be Watchmen virgins.

I don't mind Rorschach's voice, but it'll need to grow on me. I've grown fond of Rorschach's voice in the animated comic.

I'm also a little bummed now that the rumored new ending has been confirmed to be in the final theatrical cut by both Snyder and this trailer.

P.S. Wait... I thought there wasn't a formal "Watchmen" group. Wasn't there just the "Crimebusters" and the "Minutemen"? Rorschach in the trailer referred to the remaining superheroes as his fellow "Watchmen", but doesn't seem right... Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd say this trailer delivers quite clearly a message that costumed heroes may be getting killed off to keep them from preventing a disaster of some kind.

I think the big difference is one had Nolan to trust, the other does not. Also, there was a terrific performance visible in that trailer. Not so here.

Yes that bothered me as well. I was like "What the fuck is the Watchmen?"

Wait a minute, I think you're right. The Minutemen, then the Crime Busters. What's this "Watchmen" business?

Maybe a script change? That'd be unnecessary and just plain dumb.

Does anyone know the name of the first song in the trailer? It sounds familiar. Maybe it's been in another movie trailer recently?

That's where it's from! I knew I recognized it from somewhere. I guess it wasn't recently, though. :lol

Thanks.
