veidt looks too young and not built enough for my tastes.

i also dislike manhattan's voice. i always imagined it to be much more distant than that. . . not unlike a god, you know?

I liked Manhattan's voice. I mean yeah, when I was reading the book, I could only imagine a James Earl Jonesy voice in my head, but the book never implied Manhattan's voice was anything more than monotonous. So yeah, it works.

Rorschach sounds good, although sometimes a bit too forced. We'll see.
I think Manhattan and Rorschach sound perfect in the motion comic.

I think the less the movie becomes a series of stills and more of an actual movie, the less impressive it will probably appear.

i'm fine with that, so long as i stay open to all possibilities and evaluate it on the fly, not writing it off before i set my eyes on it.

same here. I always thought Manhattan would have a gentle but robotic voice, kinda. Something that shows emotions accordingly, but sounds totally fake and distant

oh well. Just another thing Snyder didn't get, we're going to get a big list the more new details emerge

Shouldn't you be blaming Crudup for it?

wow, the last seconds of the new trailer are cringeworthy. I blame muse

Also, and this is so totally personal preference, grain of salt, etc, but when you take the same compositions from the comic but with completely different costume designs for people like Ozy and Nite Owl, the whole thing just looks...off.

I thought the initial trailer showed promise, but this one... hmmmm... not so much. Somehow it seems to just really miss the essence of the graphic novel. Rorschach's voice killed me.

I think I've changed my mind about Doctor Manhattan's voice; I think it almost works better if you have him have a more human voice because it kind of betrays the notion that even as a 'god', there is still some semblance of humanity in him (shown when he freaks out), but I do think that there's a certain sort of aloofness to the way Crudup says the line.

I like it, for now anyway.

I don't even think Manhattan requires an actor, besides his life before the tachyon chamber incident

Maybe not, but I kind of like the notion that the other actors are speaking with a Crudup that's actually there before post-production, and that the blue lighting is actually coming off his suit.

I'm really interested in reading the book, GAF. Which version should I pick up, I checked out Amazon and there were multiple books written by Moore under the same title (Watchmen).

Which is the definitive version for me to pick up? (I'm a complete noob to the Watchmen universe)

so... Is manhattan gonna walk around with his penis all covered up or is that just for the trailers? And I really didn't like his voice. You know, the more I see of this film the less faith I have in it. :\

But it's not like me bitching is gonna change shit, so I'll just roll with it. Really liked Rorschach. Not just his voice or costume, but the way he moves and the action shots of him all look good. Dunno if the implied grappling hook is a bit too much though.

I don't mind Rorschach's voice

I think it's pretty damn good personally. That's basically how I imagined it when I read the graphic novel. Dr. Manhattan on the other hand, I'm not sure of. But Rorschach I am sure of.

They're all the same, except some have notes/art/whatever. Just get a basic trade to start, and if you love it, get the HC with all the extra stuff.

As of now, every watchmen is definitive version. Prior to 2005, Watchmen had VERY MINUTE coloring issues that Higgins couldn't fix. After the release of Absolute Watchmen i.e. Watchmen digitized, colors fixed and 3 VERY SMALL things that Dave Gibbons didn't like fixed (shown in "Watching the Watchmen"), every other reprint uses Absolute Watchmen as the base.

In short, buy any copy of Watchmen in your local bookstore and you'll be fine :)

The coloring differences are a little more significant that that-- look at some of the comparisons in Watching the Watchmen. Even so, either coloration scheme is fine as well.

Two copies of Watching the Watchmen and two copies of Watchmen? As a comic collector I really need to ask why you would do something so stupid. It's not like either will appreciate in value.

Signed by Dave Gibbons :)

Don't worry. Giving two of them away as Christmas gifts :D

If you met the man and had him sign it then that's pretty cool. And if you didn't meet him but bought it without some kind of certificate by an official body, the signature is useless both emotionally and monterarily. For shame sir, if it was the latter.

crazy, I just realized that I am 1 degree from malin ackerman, close friend I work with was telling me about her hot friend malin who was going to be in a couple movies coming up. weird.

also, on a more reality based note, just picked up the graphic novel, looking forward to this universe.

I enjoyed the trailer a whole lot more on the big screen.

I could do without the slow-mo shot of Silk Spectre turning from the fire though. It's awkward.

Really? I love that shot actually.

Concerning the slow-motion, in general. The only three big film projects Zack Snyder has directed are Dawn of the Dead, 300, and Watchmen. I can't really recall any large and glaring amount of slow-motion in Dawn, so I'm wondering if his use of slow motion in 300 and Watchmen is some kind of stylistic choice having to do with them being based on graphic novels.

Perhaps he thinks slow-motion shots somewhat simulate looking at a comic panel by letting your eye linger on a slightly more static image than one would usually see in a film. Sort of a comic panel facsimile.

The trailer really looks a hell of a lot better in HD than it did on the shitty streaming version. Sounds like the more theatrical viewings make the thing come off a lot cooler for some reason.

I highly suspect you're right. Whether it works that way or not, and whether it's implemented at the right times, is a question with a less sure answer.

I find that shot awkward when she starts to run. Something about her run seems really off to me. I can't place it. Maybe the speed.

I wouldn't be happy about Snyder using slo-mo to make it a comic like. I've stated it before but Watchmen (the film) will be a masterpiece only if it succeeds as a demonstration of the storytelling in films the way the comic did. Sticking to homages tells me Snyder didn't get the memo.

I didnt like that shot either because she didnt seem panicked in any way as she jogs off screen. I'm sure it will all be super tight visually tho, I have no doubt.
