Honestly, I think most Superhero stuff in movies looks cheesy. It's one thing in a comic, but once you actually see a dude dressed up in those outfits it's always gonna look a bit cheesy.

No, I don't think that clip is cool. I think it's kinda cheesy. Downright bad, though? No. I think you can find almost as cheesy clips in pretty much every superhero movie.

And that's okay. Jeepers. It's okay that 90 seconds of this movie turned out lame and predictable. Why must every frame be rationalized? The scene looked terrible. Your hypothesis that there is a reason for its terribleness does not make it fundamentally unterrible.

If you find it lame that's okay with me, I just don't agree with what you said about Nolan and Greengrass. They both do great work, but I'm not seeing some personal or character developing dynamic in the action in their movies in general.

I agree that the scene is cheesy and, I guess, somewhat lame. Maybe it does better when it's on the movie, I don't know. Maybe it won't.

And if 90 seconds of a 90 second clip were all in slow-mo, we can then safely infer that 160 minutes of the full 160 minute movie will be in slow-mo as well!

But you see how they're reacting. Like, I said, it's not really too complicated of an idea. And Dan and Laurie are two much more complicated characters than Jason Bourne and Batman. All the more reason to use a less detatched approach.
 
Is it gonna be worth watching in IMAX for this movie? I've never watched a movie in IMAX and I heard this isn't really optimized for it

The only scripted feature film worth seeing in IMAX would be The Dark Knight because some of its scenes were actually shot on 70mm IMAX film (and it looks AMAZING BTW). That's not the case with Watchmen.

I think I read somewhere that some scenes in Transformers 2 will be shot in IMAX as well, if you're into that sort of thing.

I'm rereading Watchmen right now and I just happened to have read that issue last night. Wow, that's just god awful. I have actually been cautiously optimistic about the movie recently, but that was just beyond my worst expectation. That clip is everything I feared the movie would be when the costumes were first unveiled.

I think you see how they react in this one just as much as in any Bourne-movie, although the latter feels more gritty in it's action scenes.

I dount there will be much slo-mo outside of the action sequences... and there isn't that much action in Watchmen.

I loved the smile in the video. It actually made me smile, because here's this nerd of a guy doing the one thing that doesn't make him feel like a loser. He's a complete geek, so why wouldn't he ruin the superhero image for a geeky smile? It's actually a bit of good directing, or acting, probably both.

Every clip I've seen so far has slow mo in them, even ones that don't have action. The Comedian jumping to the ground had fucking slow mo to it.

People are making too big a deal out of it, I agree. Of course it would be stupid if Batman made that smile, but there will be about 2 hours of character-building and context before that one moment. By that time, the audience will be well-acclimated to the idea of Dreiberg as a nerdy guy who uses his owlsuit to feel powerful and badass.

It's the Watchmen equivalent of sharp knees. Lighten up, people.

Watching the Watchmen is fantastic for a 'behind-the-scenes' look at the making of the comic. One of my favorite parts of the book was how they went about picking the color palette for the entire book. The photographs are also outstanding.

Art of the Film & Film Companion are pretty cool for not only the behind-the-scenes on how a shot was done, but seeing preliminary drawings of costumes as well as
Dave Gibbons' take on the movie's ending
were also a treat. These two books are spoiler heavy though, so avoid if you haven't read the books or don't want the ending revealed.

If you haven't seen it, The Watchmen Portraits book is also really classy as it's simply black and white photos of not only the cast members, but also everyone that was involved in the making of the film

Mickey Rourke is awesome in it. So is Bruce Willis.
Most of the others are pretty cliche noir-type stuff, but those two brought it.

Even though their roles are more stylized or whatever, they had impeccable delivery
and performances so so so interesting/entertaining to watch. Not just the writing, but
there's some real deep, strained, guttoral stuff going on.
 
While Rourke IS good, Bruce Willis is fucking terrible in Sin City, as is pretty much everyone else, and Michael Madsen turns in the worst performance in recent memory. An impressive feat, given he has all of 2 minutes of screentime and about 10 lines.

Despite all this, I still liked the movie lots.

Nice article, expresses how I feel.

People who are on Moore's side about his comics "being written in a medium that is not film and thus can't translate well into them" need to realize that just because you think that, won't stop a film from being made. You don't have to see it, and the comic will always exist in its true form.

There is give and take when it comes to seeing film adaptations, and I'm willing to give a lot for this to be good, even though from what it sounds like, I won't have to.

I'm torn about the ending, but I would rather them go this route and not have to deal with the movie possibly not getting released due to over-freaked executives yelling "911 911 911 RACISM RACISM BLAAAAH".

I dunno. I want it to be good, am hearing it is, so thus I'm not complaining. The run time alone should be enough to make people happy.

It is, but I think he says something like "The prostitutes and politicians will look up...".

Its one of the first frames, they just altered the text a little.

I just looked at a clip on the official site though, and it seems like he mentions both whores and politicians in it.
 
In fact, I’d argue no one but Snyder could have made this film. Wait, wait… put those pitchforks and nooses away. I don’t mean that Snyder is the best director in the world or even the most interesting choice for this material. What I’m saying is that in the real world of filmmaking, there is nobody out there with the power and pull to have made a film like this, at this level, with the intent of keeping it as true to the source material as he did.

It’s kind of a perfect storm situation. Warners was going forward with this and had just made a shit-ton of money on 300, an R-rated comic book adaptation. If Snyder had not made that film or if 300 hadn’t been so popular… or if 300 had been watered down to a PG-13… we wouldn’t be here today. Snyder never would have gotten offered the movie and even if he had been he never in a million years would have been in the position to strong-arm the studio into making it so long, with an R-rating and true to the tone, spirit and specifics of the comic.

IS the squid in the directors cut? Or not? I am interested to see what the hell Ozzy had going on at the island. Maybe the island doesnt exist in the movie? So what did the Comedian see that had him killed? I guess I'll see in a week.

It was never filmed. But maybe, just MAYBE, he'll film it if there's enough opposition from the fans.

Yeah they had to change that line because if it were what it used to be no one would know the difference between the two these days.
