Water FX in Uncharted - Drake's Fortune! WOW!

The water in the demo (big pool just in the beginning) was just a flat texture like in Oblivion. Maybe it was an older build and they updated it for the retail version.
:lol :lol :lol :lol

Seeing that gametrailers video makes me go wow, and really want to playa 'complete' version. Just the idea of water flowing according to environmental factors in an adventure game makes me drool. Some really cool puzzles - maybe even an entire game - can be made from such a well made engine. Image using rocks to dam water to redirect flow of water... I'd love an entire game like that.

I remember when 3D technology was just becoming mainstream in games, and I used to love using video game worlds as virtual play grounds. Games like Mario64, Zelda, and later GTA3 and RE4 were awesome at letting te player kind of just mess about trying different things.

These days, it has become a bit more prevalent, so it's not as mindblowing. Uncharted came close to allowing a bit more messing about, but there wasn't the same kind of environmental freedom since it focused more on action.

I really wanted an underwater puzzle like in Soul Reaver, although in one section it's rather disorienting trying to find a certain window. Still Richard and Amy have shown they can design really cool puzzles and I hope in Uncharted 2 the puzzles will be awesome.

No mention of the awful tearing? It needs mentioning, because it's some of the worst in any game, and the water areas were where it always happened. Hopefully they fix it in their next game.

Other than that, though, every other developer needs to learn from Naughty Dog on how to properly do a PS3 game. 1080 output, incredible graphics and performance, nicely integrated cutscenes without overdoing it, HDD use to keep loading minimal-to-nonexistant without a 5GB installation, and most importantly, it's a really good, fun game.

Richard: Drake swimming was one of the things that was cut from Uncharted since we felt we didn’t have the time to tune it properly. Looking back, I think it was a very good decision for the game. Underwater swimming can be very slow and potentially confusing. I’m not sure it really fits with the pace of game that we want to create. But at this point it’s too early to say if we’ll ever take another crack at it.

What? I really hope they put it in the second one. Uncharted 2 + underwater exploration and some properly built tension (no enemies) = greatness.

The tearing was only bad if your PS3 set for 1080p output, once I unchecked that the tearing wasn't any worse than any other current gen game.

Underwater exploration sucks in any game. Please don't put it in part 2 ND. Better water effect on the other hand is always welcomed.

Perhaps a snorkel / rockpools section would be an adequate compromise.

I can't see the video you are referring to, but if Hydrophobia ever comes out that may be what you are looking for.
