What am I reading... good lord.
This means nothing. You dont know who came back do you.The old mods are almost all on the discord...
If I send a girl a message over skype and it's a kissy face is that sextual harassment?
Where's the door
Not worth it.
Even compliments are suspect. Just stick to porn and jerking off, live that safe life.
Safe life you say? You're watching videos of nude women? Do you ask for their consent before jerking?
DAMN IT ALL
Guess I'll have to move to NC-17 fanfics.
Common sense in my world. For all the people going crazy over this, when is it OK to approach a woman?
Do you need a written acceptance before you can even kiss her?
Some people are way too sensitive.
I'm not saying what he did was OK, but you're all talking like he raped her.
They were drunk, in the same hotel room, she didn't close the door. We don't know the mood or what was said between them.
I could sure as hell see that as an invitation.
Obviously it wasn't, and he respected that.
Then they had sex later. What..
Innocent until proven guilty. Ruining a mans life over heresay is so god damn narrow minded, and dangerous.
.......you just ignored the "hush hush" part of my post and made it about you.
Typical.
If your business is to run a club that allowed members to be under 18, and it was revealed that a former employee and active clubmember was arrested for child pornography, perhaps you should provide some assurances that the employee and member did not abuse his position where members can be under 18, and that there will be stronger vetting of employees in the future. If you lie about knowing the person and delete any mentions of the issue, it isn't handling the issue correctly.
They didnt distance themselves enough is what I'm saying. Maybe you have some reading apprehension.
I never said they were friends lol. Malka lied about not knowing his real name when in fact he did know his name.
Why the fuck would you lie about that? Stop making excuses for Malka dude.
...........invading one's space and privacy is not "nothing".Not closing the bathroom door...
Getting drunk partying with a guy friend....
That she shared a hotel room with....
After taking a road trip with him....
Ya, Malka really was just CRAZY to think she wanted him to make a move right? I mean none of that stuff is a signal right? Come the fuck on, were you all born yesterday?
Yes, none of those are consent. And once he realized that she wasnt into it, he stopped immediately.
A person is having his reputation destroyed over nothing.
So what? ok in your opinion he could have handled it better and been more open and not so "hush hush".
This is what I don't understand about the younger generation (I am 33). You take risks when younger, Like go in for that kiss, or initiate something else. Sometimes it happened other times the other person would go no. Any right minded person would apologise and then leave, or stay and not continue what they were doing.
Sometimes you read the signals wrong, and its your reaction which justifies if its sexual Misconduct etc.
She went into the shower, he jumped in, misreading the signals, she said no, he left. If he had stayed then it would be morally wrong etc, but he got up and left like any normal person should.
He misread the signals, something that will happen to all of us at some point in our lives.
Because NeoGAF is a business? I don't know why he lied but why is it such a big deal? No matter the reason for it, it is clear he wanted to disassociate himself and possibly his business from the criminal.
If you think it is ethically or morally wrong to lie, then obviously you will take issue with people who have a different view.
Awsome! Lets remind the internet and everyone here who thinks they might want to leave .. why they were here from the beginning. And whatever happens in the courts.... is not what we do here .. we do Gaming and future consoles.. and we even do 4K and checkboarding 4KMy opinion regarding these subjects is not what is shared by the modern wave of ultrasensitive - PC culture. However to me this changes everything.
In my opinion the guy made his move on her, she rejected him and he took off. What's the problem? I understand it is invasive for someone to jump into the shower with you but it's not like he was trying to force himself on her and this whole reaction would make anyone think it was like that.
And, if on top of that, the girl eventually did have sex with him... Well, I guess it wasn't that traumatic experience. I'm not doing victim blaming but if you feel someone sexually assaulted you, it's kind of idiotic to continue traveling with the guy and even worse to end up sleeping with him. People that think that this is possible have no clue about what (real) sexual assault means for a person.
I know that I'm risking being banned for talking about this subject but in a sense I feel is kind of poetic this is happening. The community has been affected by hypersensitivity for a long time and a lot of people have been crucified for shit similar to this. Overreacting to stupid shit has been a staple of NeoGaf for a while.
I never cared for drama like this before so I'm not leaving this site. I really hope this puts shit in perspective for everyone who is quick to call for pitchforks. This is not a second chance for Evilore, it's a second chance for the community. Let's try to man up and behave like fucking adults and recognize real traumatic experiences as they are and stop trying to make any stupid sexual (or otherwise) advance into a rape attempt. Shit like that doesn't help real victims.
Let's talk about some fucking games. NeoGAF is the best community in my opinion. Let's try to keep it that way.
That pretty much sums it up. My exact feelings about this topic. I really do not like to jump to conclusion and make accusations left and right. Give me the details and facts so I can make up my mind. Watching the twitter reactions and posts on this forum have shown that people are quick to judge and spread hate. And not take into account any facts or information.Way to go Klepek for getting the SCOOPS. Dude's a badass, doing actual investigative reporting on shit that matters.
Second, I love GAF, been coming here for almost a decade. Its been an amazing place to come read about games, insight into the industry, and other's thoughts/opinions. I can't remember how many times I've come here and learned some hot news a week before a major news site picks it up. Like any forum, the strength lies in the community. Time will tell if GAF has the strength to rise again, I suppose. Its a bummer to think of this place becoming a ghost town.
My thoughts on this debacle are.. COME THE F' ON! I'm glad Klepek wrote the piece and shined some more light on the story.
It went from #metoo, I was sexually assaulted by evilore and everyone get their pitchforks shined up, TO
They are travelling together, sharing hotel rooms, getting lit. She had a boyfriend!!! (But at the same time, admittedly polyamourous, in an open relationship....so yeah, the boyfriend aspect has about zero relevance) and there was obviously some kind of relationship between the two, likely coupled with a good amount of sexual tension. They both get drunk, she goes to shower and "maybe leaves the door open partway" which could be interpreted a few different ways, (not saying it was supposed to be an invitation, but they're drunk and staying in a hotel room together here, could be easily misinterpreted) and dude tries to make an ill-thought-out move (sure, it was a little over the top way to break the ice) and she says no. He leaves.
Then the bombshell - "oh we had sex a few months later as I continued to travel with him." Oh, ok. Must have been a really horrible experience there a few months back. (Whoever claimed this is like a domestic violence victim coming back to her abuser - get real. Domestic victims come back to their abusers because of the long standing circle of abuse - the abuser has all the power, has stripped the victim of their self-worth and independence - financially and by cutting them off from their friends/family. Kids are often involved. They come back because the whole abuse cycle is designed to break them down, leaving is hard as fuck financially, and there are legit fears of violence to self/kids if they try to walk away. This woman has her own life, career, circle of friends/family/boyfriend and could've walked away at any point and never talked to this guy again. Not even remotely similar situation.) This makes me believe this whole interaction was no big deal when it happened, maybe even laughed about the next morning, and over the passage of time and a soured relationship, it becomes something else entirely.
When the whole story comes out, this seems more like someone who wanted to join the #metoo movement and came up with a salacious, half-truth of a story to join the club.
Don't think for a minute that I am an apologist for sexual offenders, I work in the court system and when someone goes to the pen for a sexual assault it FEELS GOOD. Fuck people that truly sexually victimize others, and part of me hopes they themselves get victimized behind bars to know what it feels like.
This though...c'mon.
Bringing me to my last point, BRING BACK OFF-TOPIC FORUMS. Talk like this has no business in a forum dedicated to video games

This thread is like a litmus test for the "new" GAF. And it's failing hard.

Man this is what GAF will become now?
YESSo what? ok in your opinion he could have handled it better and been more open and not so "hush hush".
In everybody's opinion, especially the mods who were forced to ban users asking legitimate questions and asking for clear information.
That is why a lot of mods left, this was just the straw that broke the camels back.
Exactly 100% this. I think a lot of people dont know anything about that situation, but it had so much impact as to how things were handled this time, and mods didnt want to deal with it that way, but were forced to.
...........invading one's space and privacy is not "nothing".
Which reputation: The one for arse-grabbing, the one for sending revenge porn or the one where he covered for a nonce?
Pick your poison.
She left the fucking door open after she spent the night partying with him whilst staying in a room with him.
Come the fuck on, this is not a privacy violation.

Because we dare to think that this series of events does not by any reasonable standard constitute sexual assault?
For the record, the other incident where he grabbed some woman's ass undoubtedly IS sexual assault. But for whatever reason, thats not the one that caused the blowup.

It never made sense . Amirox was terrible even before the CP. How and why he was allowed to stay was/is such a huge mystery for me .Amir0x's past and him being arrested for possessing CP was the forums worst kept secret. Covering it up and distancing themselves made it look like they were protecting him and themselves. Being honest would have been better for the community.
I don't know what to say.
It's really awful being abused by someone and feeling like you can't say anything about it. Of course, it would also be awful if it were untrue, so quick judgments are probably not a good way forward. I will say:
1/ Allegations of sexual harassment/ assault should always be taken very seriously;
2/ Those involved have the right to make their statements, and follow formal processes if appropriate. (I've never been a fan of Internet bandwagons - let people whose job it is to deal with it, deal with it).
3/ Innocence should be presumed until guilt is proven
4/ It tends to take time for details to emerge; Avoid immediate hot-takes, give it time, see what comes to light and evaluate accordingly.
It's not a spicy point of view, but I am far removed from the situation & cannot possibly judge it fairly. Just waiting and watching for me I guess.
Very sad what's happened

But why the favoritism ? That's the mystery...And people say they didn't know him personally. Bullshit. It was clear to anyone that he was given leeway due to favoritism.
Leupp said that, at the time, she was polyamorous and in an open relationship with a boyfriend, but the open part of her relationship was exclusive to women, not men. Leupp said her boyfriend knew and trusted Malka.
But why the favoritism ? That's the mystery...
This is the "light" version of, "well she shouldn't be wearing these kinds of clothes at night when she goes out alone".
And one more time. Leaving a bathroom door open is a signal to enter naked nowadays? Thank god I don't have friends like you.
OH MY FUCKING GODShe left the fucking door open after she spent the night partying with him whilst staying in a room with him.

Dude this girl was completely smashed, basically throwing up in a shower, I don't know how you can read that as a signal to engage. And even if you did, I'd assume you wouldn't from that point forward basically treat the other person like shit (which is alleged here). The answers we see in the article it makes it seem even worse, calling someone "a deeply disturbed, malicious individual," for essentially sharing what he later described as a pretty accurate depiction of what happened. It all just seems pretty fucked and more than a little worse than "misreading signals".
