Waypoint no longer exists, folded into Vice.

Heard of them, never visited tho. I stopped with Vice altogether around 2013 when it became packed full of hot take nonsense articles.

apparently all these verticals were scams just Vice trying to make themselves seem like a bigger company to get investors. apparently they do this a lot, running scams, exploiting the same pool of workers to make it look like there are different brands. i heard on a podcast that they told people to bring their friends in during an investment call, so that when they had investors came over, it would look like they had a much larger staff than they do. lol. Vice are hacks.

I was speaking to a friend a few months ago who did backend IT jobs for Vice a little while back. Apparently that company is a shitshow behind the scene.

HR is a disaster, apparently sexism runs rampant(and my friend is not a sjw. If he is offended by the shit he saw...)Vice pays below the average for New York and people aren't paid on time, also the codebase is a mess because vice is constantly half assing new ideas, like waypoint.

They just added another 250 million in debt to keep the lights on.

Waypoint was a joke, and the world is better for it folding. Keep your stupid fucking politics to yourself, SJW ass clowns.

I mean that is fundamentally what Vice was for most of it's existence. I feel like the change came around the mid to late 00's, but that stuff is bound to still be prevalent despite the type of content they are trying to sell to people. Vice is one of the biggest examples of a disingenuous company.

I'd say that this was good news... but you just know these dramatic blowhards are going to wind up on some other site's payroll to spew more bullshit. "Games journalism" is permanently poisoned by social justice and sociopolitical stances that can be even tangentially linked to video games.

It all needs to be blown up and started again for there to be any chance of "games journalism" being about video games once more.

You mean to tell me that Waypoint wasn't generating enough traffic lecturing folks about what is wrong with their hobby without nuance and understanding but righteous indignation? You don't say!

Like anything far left people touch, it ends in disaster.

When I saw a thread on this topic at ResetERA, the OP made some bold claims.

"Waypoint has offered, for the last two and a bit years, an almost unique perspective on games and the games industry.

Unashamedly political in an industry that shuns politics. Unashamedly leftist in an industry that skews right. Unashamedly safe for women, BAME and LGBT folks* in an industry that is largely hateful towards them.

They were trying something different:"

Different? Skews Right? The Industry has largely been increasingly leftist for the past few years. Waypoint wasn't cool or counterculture, they were just parroting what other mainstream gaming outlets were saying. The exact opposite.

Somebody mentioned this would happen in another thread. Was this seen as coming a mile away or was there some insider scoop we didn't pick up on?

I was once a big fan of Vice and when I heard they were opening a website for gaming, I thought we were going to get a lot of great content from them. Some things were pretty good. But, alas, they came something like Polygon. A way to promote their views without counter points and pointing fingers.

I really hope game's journalism can be more than just blog style and be more like Jason Schierer's type. His articles are always well thoughtout and more thought provoking than these other sites are.

Holy shit. Unless you're a CEO, the video game industry has ALWAYS been left-leaning. It's become extremely left after Trump took office and the whining and crying began. Conservatives in game development or in the industry at large are few and far between— and most keep quiet for fear of being crushed in social media by their ultra-Liberal colleagues.

And "an industry that shuns politics"? Fucking WHERE? This business has grown almost nauseatingly political, exacerbated by "games journalism" blowhards who are always chomping at the bit to call someone out and publicly shame anyone or anything that doesn't 100% agree with their political agenda.

I don't like talking about "that other site" because it's fucking one-sided myopic trash.

And of course someone in there had to bring up "GamerGate" as proof that the industry leans right. Not only has that term been completely overused and incorrectly associated, they act like a portion of the gaming community that acted like right-wing idiots somehow makes up the majority of the industry. It's fucking mindboggling how these people can walk and breathe at the same time. They act like the moral majority and that everyone who matters is on their side but then one of their own gets taken down and they whine about how it's so unfair because clearly they're the minority. They act like bullies and then cry that they're being bullied.

I knew this would happen eventually. Still, great news to wake up to.

Now all we need is Austin Walker to crawl back to Giant Bomb to put the final nail in that coffin too (and current Giant Bomb would be stupid enough to do it).

These people don't live in reality.

They pretend the gaming industry is communist Cambodia

The modern left has mostly devolved into the Oppression Olympics. It's now about which minority can you virtue signal to the most, not talking about what would actually be good for society. Like you said, they think they're the good guys and anybody who questions their logic must be an alt-right Nazi troll. These people have an extreme lack of self awareness.

Never went to the site to read their articles because who cares. They also never posted regularly on YouTube after their launch stream to pick up some giantbomb or polygon viewers.

WTF is BAME?

Austin Walker's regular promo spots over the past 6 months on Giant Bomb podcasts to beg for Waypoint traffic was a dead giveaway that things weren't right in Kumbaya Land.

Is he gonna "accidentally" post nier sissification fanfic on the front page again and then say it's ok because he's "queer"?

That was the one site that pushed their SJW narrative even harder than Kotaku right?
If so good riddance

Surprisingly, I don't understand this reference, lol. Is there a link that would explain it that doesn't involve me clicking through to Waypoint?

Hillarious. Nearly 3k posts on a gaming forum, and thats how badly they (supposedly) disdain the field!

Mind you, this idiot cant even spell the county where they live correctly in their own user info, Chesire (sic).
